  1. And Bruce wins again. :) Jus like a stopped clock, I'm right twice a day. Sometimes that's all you need.
  2. Ha ha, Bruce for the win. CT should apologize to Bruce, lol. i call for a str8 b& Yes, but first he should apologize for all nearly 9000 of his posts. And say it like he means it. CT; Be a man, and apologize to Miles. What did CT say that requires his apology? Nothing. No apology is necessary.

  4. It's Bruce Miles, and all the other sites got their information from the San Fransisco Chronicle. They probably got their info from Schmidt's agent, which Bruce said was probably a false rumor that the agent thought up. I doubt that SI.com and ESPN would have it as such big news if there was only a blurb about it in the San Francisco Chronicle. Rotoworld, yes, but not SI or ESPN. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/baseball/mlb/11/28/schmidt.cubs/index.html Thats from the main baseball page from a reporter over at SI.com Yea I wasn't aware Bruce Miles' word was absolute truth these days. i wasn't aware john heyman's word was the absolute truth these days. I'm going to violate my own edict here and jump in on this thread one more, and last, time. To those who have PM'ed, I've tried to respond (in a nice way, of course), but I'm having trouble getting my messages through, and I've asked the Admin. for some help. Nobody is the ultimate authority here. The Cubs may indeed land Schmidt eventually. That's not the issue here. All I said, and it's been corroborated by two different radio reports, is that the current information about an alleged offer to Schmidt, which was put out by national outlets, is not accurate at this moment to the best of my knowledge. See you on other threads.

I never said it was. Tell you what, guys, I'm done with this thread. We'll sort it all out after Schmidt either signs or doesn't sign with the Cubs. I gave you my best information as I have it as of this moment. Have fun.
  6. Two lesser free agents in the rotation unless something happens with Schmidt that changes everybody's minds and allows him to come here. For now, they'll pencil Jones in center. If they can find a left-handed bat who can play CF, they'll try to trade Jones. The wild card is Pie. If he tells the Cubs he's ready (by his play, of course), he could be in CF sometime in 2007. The center-field situation is very fluid right now. I expect a lot of activity in Orlando next week.
  7. Carrie Muskat? In defense of Carrie, no, she does not write photo captions. That's a desk error.
  8. Rule them out, period. Are they going to abandon Asia again? No, they just hired Steve Wilson, who lives in Taiwan, to restart their Asian scouting. They apparently don't see Igawa as worth the investment.
  9. See my above post about agents floating info. You'd be surprised at how many national (and some local) reporters run stuff without ever calling the club for confirmation.
  10. Mr. Levine was just on ESPN radio and said the Cubs had not made an offer. Listen to your local guys.
  11. Bruce says this isn't true. Then again, Gammons is on the 20 dollar bill so it's hard to believe he's not right. I'm perplexed here. I don't believe an offer was made. Remember, agents like to float a lot of things, especially to get the market going. Do you believe that they are interested enough to make an offer in the 3-4 year range at close to 15 per year? Have you heard anything about the Igawa bid? thanks Bruce. I don't believe the Cubs will go $15 mil per year for Schmidt. Don't get too excited worrying about Igawa. He'll land elsehwere.

  13. I wouldn't put too much stock in those reports. Why? Uh, maybe because no such offer has been made.

  15. Sorry about the double-post above. My computer had a hiccup at the time. I wasn't trying to convey that this rumor is doubly unreliable.
  16. Living Hall of Fame members vote only for those on the Veterans Committee ballot. They do not vote in this phase of Hall of Fame balloting. This phase is reserved for BBWAA members who have been members for at least 10 years. ah, my mistake. But is it the BBWAA or the Veteran's vote that is notorious for voters not sending ballots? It seems to me it was the "old" (no pun intended) Veterans Committee that had trouble getting its full complement to vote. Before the system was revamped, the Veterans Committee was made up of a panel appointed by the Hall of Fame. Some of the older members at times could not get to the meeting. The new Veterans Committee has higher voter turnout as does the BBWAA. and the system allows you to vote for as many or as few players as you would like, correct? You may vote for as few as zero players and up to as many as 10. Do you ever publish the list of whom you vote, Bruce? Yes.
  17. This trade is not happening. There is not Cubs source who would ever, ever e-mail or utter such a thing. Believe what you will.

  21. Leaning toward it. Are you bothered by his testimony in front of Congress and the difficult-to-ignore implications thereof? Just asking - not judging. We value your insight and opinion. Yes, I am bothered by his testimony.
