Lou said they might have to call up an infielder PATTERSON!!! More likely Fontenot or Cedeno, since they're both on the 40-man. That's probably right. Ya, they'd probably need someone who has experience at third as well, and I don't think E-Patt has anyone. Bruce, is there any truth to the suggestion that E-Patt is playing in the OF more often because his defense is suspect at 2nd? That's what I've been led to believe.
"Severe" case of patella tendinitis. He'll likely arrive here tomorrow and be available to pinch hit this weekend. They'd rather have him sit until Monday and then re-evaluate.

I've heard good things about Vitters. I was tipped off yesterday that they'd likely take him if he was there. So I went with him as the favorite in my Cubs Notes today. Wilken seemed to really like him.
From what I've been told by baseball people, "scouting" is more important than "development" in the scouting and development combo. In other words, you're not going to take a so-so prospect and "develop" him into something great because you have great "development" people. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing. Just passing along the gist of a recent coversation. Maybe it's one of those "duh" things.
I'm not really allowed to break news on message boards. But cubs.com might have something later. I don't know if our site will have my notes up that quickly. But it's not Eyre.
I'd like to see them play Murton every day. That would be my first preference. I worry about the power, though. I had held out hope Murton would have a Sandberg-like transformation (and no, I'm not comparing him with Ryne Sandberg) and up the home run totals. But I still love his approach at the plate when he's going well. When he's going poorly, he's swinging at pitches out of the zone early and getting behind 0-2. It's great discussing this game because we're not all always going to agree on everything. I appreciate the kind words. I also respect and appreciate the dissenting opinions.
Oh, I'm sure they're having another high-level meeting to see about implementing those changes and maybe hiring me and giving me a hefty bonus and... Well, you get it. It might well be obvious, but not to those in charge, apparently. Thanks for the dicussion.
Players in general look at the game differently from the rest of us. Maddux is a great example. He always said the only stat he cared about was wins. And he's up on such things as WHIP. I wouldn't describe Carlos as angry yesterday, especially after I explained to him that the whole thing started with the report on hardballtimes.com. In fact, he and I talked about it the other day. Afterward, he said we were all "friends" again. He's a beaut.
