  1. well so much for pushing us over the top, I guess Hendry would rather settle for being right around .500 and hopeing to make the playoffs instead of making a move to push us over the top. I see your point, but who's to say this roster can't keep pushing to more games over .500? Bruce, would be very appreciative of your feelings on what the plans are for Murton over the final two months of the season. I don't think anybody knows that at this point.

  3. Hendry was quite forceful in saying Pie won't be moved. If they do anything at all, it won't be of the blockbuster variety. (Subject to change, with last-minute phone calls, of course.)
  4. All I can tell you is they're even in the loss column with the first-place team in the division. Somebody has been doing something right for a month and a half or so. Let's see how it plays out the rest of the way.
  5. Like him saying Kendall and Hill were going to alternate starts? Or how Cedeno and Theriot were going to split time at SS? Lou says alot of stuff, and then does the exact opposite. And so what? He's got the hammer, and he's going to use it. I don't recall him saying Cedeno and Theriot were going to split time. He did say Theriot would need days off. Things change as time goes on, and any manager reserves the right to change his mind. Lou doesn't give one dam* what anybody thinks (including us) as long as the team is winning. I kind of like it.
  6. Why people are inferring that just because Murton is sitting means they're going to trade him is beyond me. If the Cubs were "showcasing" him, they'd play him. Lou said he wanted to give Jones and Floyd the day off and that he wanted to play DeRosa. But he also wanted left-handed bats in there. Hence, Fontenot and Pagan. From talking to Cubs people as recently as last night, I don't believe any trade is imminent. That might change between now and Tuesday, but to link Murton not playing to him being traded doesn't necessarily hang together. Also, Lou is very direct and has a hard time playing the "trick the media and public" game by engaging in double talk. When he gives his reasons, he's been pretty consistently believable.
  7. Reds lineup Hatteberg, 1B Freel, CF Griffey, RF Phillips, 2B Dunn, LF Keppinger, SS Valentin, C Encarnacion, 3B Belisle, P
  8. Early Cubs lineup Soriano, LF Theriot, Ss Lee, 1B Ramirez, 3B DeRosa, RF Fontenot, 2B Pagan, CF Hill, C Zambrano, P
  9. He talked before the game of using Dempster no matter what.
  10. Lou would rather play Cliff in the night game today and not in tomorrow's afternoon game.
  11. Late change: Soriano, LF Theriot, SS Lee, 1B Floyd, RF DeRosa, 3B Fontenot, 2B Jones, CF Kendall, C Marshall, P
  12. Pat Hughes will be off again. I missed what was wrong with him. Last I heard, it might have been food that didn't agree with him? Maybe some sort of stomach-flu type of bug.
  13. is he just getting a day off or was there an injury that i missed? Day off.
  14. Lineups Cubs Soriano, LF Theriot, SS Lee, 1B DeRosa, 3B Jones, CF Murton, RF Fontenot, 2B Kendall, C Marshall, P Reds Freel, CF Hopper, RF Conine, 1B Phillips, 2B Dunn, LF Keppinger, SS Encarnacion, 3B Ross, C Harang, P
  15. The Cubs were the road team and went ahead in the top of the inning. That hasn't happened here, so if it did rain and they couldn't play, the Reds would win 2-1. The home team gets a chance to come back if the visitors go ahead before the delay. Hence, the suspension.
  16. If you're going to showcase a guy beginning on July 27 with the deadline being July 31, wouldn't you start him right away? I don't see this as a showcase. I'm told the Reds aren't moving Griffey and the asking price for Dunn has been set pretty high for any team that might want Dunn.
  17. Pat's still feeling a bit ill. Hopefully, he'll be back tomorrow.
  18. We're so good we don't even need a 1B! Fixed. Micah Hoffpauir at first. (Kidding)
  19. Lineups in early Cubs Soriano, LF Theriot, SS Lee, 1B Ramirez, 3B Floyd, RF DeRosa, 2B Jones, CF Kendall, C Hill, P Reds Freel, CF Keppinger, SS Griffey, RF Phillips, 2B Dunn, LF Conine, 1B Encarnacion, 3B Ross, C Arroyo, P
  20. I don't think they're getting Griffey. Lou will let us know in a few minutes what the plan is.
  21. Well, he's not taking up a roster spot right now, and I don't believe he's blocking any prospects from getting their starts. He's not going to retire today and forfeit the rest of his guaranteed money. I don't see any harm in keeping him around as a worst case scenario insurance policy for a spot start if something happens to the rest of the staff and all their backups. That's about the size of it, Jersey.
  22. It's so hard to tell because it takes two sides to make a deal no matter how logical they sound when we cook them up here. Both teams got to want to do it. I'd look for something smaller-scale but no blockbuster. (Subject to change, of course.)
