  1. Nice little note off of Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball: I'm loving this scoreless innings streak. Anybody know the longest scoreless innings streak for a reliever??
  2. I mean, who even cares if we have the 4th best winning percentage in the majors. It's not like I'm counting....
  3. Living in Atlanta, and seeing a fair share of Braves games, I see the booing issue on a little different level. You see, Chicago is one of the few baseball crazy towns that will embrace a player so tightly when they do well. Thus, on the opposite end, when they fail, they are given exponentially bad treatment. Basically, if you want to come to Chicago and have a chance at being a part of history and a chance to experience a baseball crazy town, you have to be ready to accept the fact that failure is not tollerated by the common fan. For every Ryne Sandberg, there has to be a Latroy Hawkins. If Jacque Jones wasn't expecting to get booed after striking out the third time in 3 at-bats to continue his 0-whatever, then he didn't do his research before he accepted his millions. THAT, my friends, is ignorance.
  4. I never remember seeing anything about this on here, and my quick manual search yielded nothing, so here goes. After posting a line of .241/32/110 with the horrible Expos in 2004, he signed a two year, $15 million contract to play in Japan. Then suddenly, after a pretty average .263/27/90 with the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, he signs a one-year deal with Minnesota. Anybody think this guy can put up decent numbers at the bottom of the lineup???
  5. Schneider did lead the NL by throwing out 38% of base runners, but a line of .256/10/44 for a 29-year old hardly warrants this kind of contract. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2295194 Makes the Barrett signing look pretty nice eh?
  6. Ha. I guess Derrek Lee and A-Ram were bringing out the worst in Burnitz.
  7. i dont appreciate the racial overtones of your post. Does it have to be because he's black that we're poking fun? Aren;t you judging others as well by assuming this is a racist comment? Gimme a break.
  8. The silhouette on the Major League Baseball logo is Harmon Killebrew. Yeah, I'm bored.
  9. Now for those who don't watch Poker on ESPN, Foxsports, etc, etc.....Phil Helmuth is one of the biggest CRYBABIES in poker, or sports entertainment, period. When he lost to Anne Dukes, his lost it. So, for ARod to assoicate himself with Phil Helmuth, speaks volumes about the character of Alex Rodriguez. And for ARod sake, if he wants to play poker, he needs to do it in legitmate places, not back alley "bars", so to speak. I think Hellmuth is great. If you play pokera good amount, and you play it right, and you get screwed by idiots, you know why he acts that way. If you had that kind of money on the line, you'd get into it too if you got screwed. This isn't like baseball where you get paid, THEN you play. In poker, you have to earn it before you get it - even when you're a pro.
  10. Just looked through Carlos's game log and I couldn't believe that on 2 occasions, he pitched 7 or more innings, gave up 1 hit, 0 ER, and didn't get the win. That's sick. He also failed to get wins in games where he gave up grand totals of 3 hits, 3 hits, and 4 hits. Sheesh.
  11. Looks like the fans voted the Cubs at 14th. I guess that's betterrrrrrrrr.....
  12. This is over the top. I'm not saying I would be happy with another year hovering around .500, but that is worse case scenario, and that makes us worst case like...15th best (or worst) team. Other notes: Indians (1st) - While I love rooting for a young team, predicting a WS title is farfetched, even for ESPN. With the White Sox expected to compete at the same level again, I don't see how they can even predict a division title for the youngsters. Mets (6th!!!!!) - Suddenly Tom Glavine is "strong" again, and while I agree that Beltran will likely experience a resurgance, this team will struggle to keep up in the NL East once again. I can't believe the Tigers, O's, Nationals, and Diamondbacks are ranked in front of us. UGH. I hate ESPN. :x
  13. I got Smoltz's autograph at a Denny's when I was like 15. He really is the class act guy people make him out to be. I went to HS with David Greene (UGA QB last 4 years) and he has to be the nicest guy on Earth.
  14. From ESPN.com: Wait, what???? What do you call Zambrano, Prior, and Wood in 2003? Come on!
  15. If Boras was his agent, I wouldn't believe this story for a second!!!! :D
  16. Nope! 92% full with 46,181 in attendance. Pathetic!
  17. I was playing MVP 2005 last night and when D Lee was up, the announcer said "This guy's a pretty good hitter, but he's not going to win any batting titles." The irony!
  18. They were all sellouts, but tickets weren't going for all that much on the secondary market. "Soft" sellouts. I think the strike really took the wind out of that fanbase. Fulton County Stadium was an electric place during the 1991, 1992 and 1993 postseasons. Those ganes were at Fulton County Stadium though. Attendance has decresed every year since Turner opened. 42,771 (1997) 41,492 40,554 39,930 34,858 32,142 30,393 29,399 (2004) I live a few miles from the stadium and I can tell you that Braves fans are as boring as Bobby Cox.
  19. Woah, obviously smoke and mirrors was a bad choice of words. BUT, when you pitch 23 or whatever scoreless IP in the AL, with the league's worst team defense, and with the same arm that yielded 5 HR in 11 IP in Chicago, I don't know what else to call it.
  20. ...has come to an end. His smoke and mirrors act is over, and in September, his line is an ugly: 0-4, 5.73 ERA, 1.45 WHIP (7 ER in 11 IP) Do I wish that we could've had ole' Joe in the pen during his great 20 whatever odd scoreless streak? Sure. But I know some of you all were quite pissed that we didn't give JoBo enough of a shot this year, so I felt inclined to post this when I saw him collect his 4th loss of the month. I'm sure he'll be a journeyman for two years before he finally calls it quits and gets a job at Home Depot.
