wow, not often when a player on that stage gets the retirement question and doesn't give a tired bs response.... Bettis with the trophy pretty much calling it a career is a moment I won't soon forget.

I don't know I think that there would be photos if people started showing up and I checked the ESPN photo wire and all it has is John Thompson throwing for the new Brave PC at Turner field, and Beltran and Delgado at some Puerto Rican home run derby.

None of those impact players play a position of need of the Cubs though (a case can be made for Beckett I suppose)

That kid made somebody angry. He seems like a decent guy to have on the bench so there must be something about his work ethic or some other intangible. Didn't he draw a walk in his ML debut, that's gotta be it. :lol:

Well Derrek Lee is much the same type of player, and if i recall the only time he hasn't played is when he had little injuries and the end of blowouts (we've never really had a true backup 1B in that time though).

Aramis Ramirez should probably be on there, since he can opt out, and can probably get more than most of those guys.

That is weird, especially since he was replaced by a long snapper. The article says that Clark was mistakenly put on the team as a long snapper.

There is no possible way for this to be a bad signing. The A's are not in anyway banking any sort of their future on Frank Thomas being a part of this team. He gets hurt and doesn't play, the A's are out 500K, which is nothing even for the A's and they still have Johnson and Swischer to play 1B/DH. If he contributes anything at all it's nothing but a positive. If you think that is too much Jose Macias and Timo Perez got 1 mill each last season. Frank Thomas gets 1 home run as an A and falls apart, he gets 500K and the a's go to their prospects, big whoop. Frank Thomas is healthy he's going to hit and make 3.1million = steal of the offseason.
