  1. Time to stop pitching him in blowouts. Actually I prefer that he be used in less intense situations until we are sure he is back up and running.
  2. I'm Jewish. Been doing it that way on this bd for a long time.
  3. I don't know if this is what you are intending to do here, but if you are lumping Hamilton's faith in with everyone else who believes in a G-d you are revealing a bias that inhibits your logic.
  4. And BTW, I am really surprised that people don't seem to get why he references G-d as much as he does. Ever heard of the 12 steps? He's not an evangelist, he's a recovering addict.
  5. I find it ironic that people who are so passionate about objective criteria used to evaluate something as relatively unimportant as baseball cannot acknowledge that science has shown drug and alcohol addiction is in fact a disease. Depression is too, by the way.
  6. Based on what I have read, this could be Mark Mulder part 2 from the A's p.o.v.
  7. It's reported on ESPN Insider that he absolutely will be traded before the 31st. He's 34 and has the following line this yr: That would be a pretty solid pick-up for the bench, IMO.
  8. Bullpen and bench depth. I think Marte/Fuentes and Sexson would be nice additions.
  9. Careful: your prejudices are showing.
  10. Actually, his real name is Jeff Spicoli http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y225/alisun21/AAGP175Khalil-Greene-2005-Studio-Pl.jpg http://www.bordertownonline.com/images/spicoli.jpg AWESOME!!! TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!
  11. I a SNT brings back Thorton, sign me up.
  12. Tough crowd! Is a 3.41 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a strikeout per inning really "mediocre?" No reliever with those numbers will ever be considered "dominant" or "shut down." They're good numbers, but nothing that is that special. Thing is, 3 or 4 bad outings out of 35 or 40 will blow-up a relivers nos. in some cases.
  13. Trade Marquis for Fuentes or Marte. Corrospondingly, put Marshall in the rotation. Get Fonzy and Eyre (yes, him too) healthy and clicking on all cylinders for the postseason. Cut down Marmol's appearences by about 20%. "Win the whole **bleeping** thing."
  14. I agree with the above - he's not lilkely to be worth what he will command on the open mkt. That said, I'd top out at at 3 yrs and 30 mill for him. If he keeps this up that isn't likely to get it done.
  15. No. He's broken. Responding to you and NC, I respectfully disagree. He didn't have it today and has been inconsistent of late. He has not been getting hit hard for the most part. The problem isn't that he is broken, its that Lou left him out there too long today. Care to explain how Marmol had a bad outing because he was left in too long when he allowed 3 runs before getting two outs? Sure the two tying runs came in because he wasn't pulled but he had an awful outing before then. People saying he isn't getting hit hard alluding to him just getting a bit unlucky and will get it turned around need to wake up, watch the games and realize it won't be an easy fix. Since June 19th he has allowed 14 runs in 9 1/3 innings. That's an ERA over 13.50. He has given up at least one run in 6 of 12 outing since then. For a relief pitcher that's an essentially guaranteed 4.50 ERA because RP tend to pitch only one inning. And in 1/4 of his outings he's given up multiple runs. That's not being inconsistent that's just outright suckage. I love Marmol and he is still one of my favorite players but he needs to demoted either to Mesa or Iowa until he figures it out because we can't afford to lose any games while he figures it out. I watch almost all the games and have seen that almost no one is hitting Mamrol hard. He's not pounding the strikezone as he once was and - as mentioned earlier - teams have learned to layoff his slider. Plus he is hitting guys. That has been problem for about a month now. And I won't bother re-stating the fact that the Cubs have a nice cushion in their division and have a good enough team overall to overcome a slump by one player.
  16. I'd prefer he had the time off as well. That said, perhaps this will help his confidence, which appears to have been flagging of late.
  17. I grew up in NY listening to/watching Rizzuto do games with Murcer. Its very sad to see him go.
  18. No. He's broken. Responding to you and NC, I respectfully disagree. He didn't have it today and has been inconsistent of late. He has not been getting hit hard for the most part. The problem isn't that he is broken, its that Lou left him out there too long today.
  19. He had good movement and velocity but couldn't find the strikezone. He'll have at least 5 days off now - its not a big deal.
  20. Yeah but that's not the point. Lou's an idiot for letting Marmol continue to blow up out there, regardess of what Theriot does. The man's arm is swiss cheese, Jesus. I realize its not the point, and I would not have put him in the game, much less allowed him to stay out there. That said, I think the whole over-use argument may be a bit overblown.
  21. There is something strange going on there. Lou usually has a quicker hook than that.
  22. I would have pulled Marmol after they got within 3, but its hard to blame Lou for the dumb play Theriot made. Game might be over otherwise.
