Another reason this trade would surprise me is that Giles is 34. If we are going to give up young pitching we should be getting youth in return. Not a 34 year old making over 8 million this season.

I've read elsewhere that Jocketty doesn't want to subtract anyone from the current ML roster, meaning that he doesn't want to move Marquis, at least during the season. I've seen this Giles rumor elsewhere, but I would be really surprised if it happened, and if it did happen, if it involved Marquis.

Forward this to Derrek Lee please. With half our team on the DL, we're gonna need these filler guys to play out of their butts.

I'm not being bold enough to predict a win here to avoid jinx purposes, but this matchup clearly favors the Cardinals. As a team we have a higher OBP and SLG against Zambrano than the Cubs do against Carp. The Cards BB/K ratio against Z is better than the Cubs BB/K ratio against Carp. The Cards have more HR against Z than the Cubs do against Carp. Not to mention that for the past two months Carp has been the best pitcher in baseball. However, we are missing Sanders, Molina, and for all offensive purposes Rolen, so that might swing things in the Cubs favor. TLR should stick Mabry and that 1.133 OPS in their against Z tomorrow night.

The fact that Lee is keeping up this absurd season astounds me. I don't think Pujols will be able to win the batting title. Nor do I think Lee will win the triple crown, though he doesn't seem to be slowing down. But he can't stay this hot for an entire season, can he? Anyone think this is going to carry over into next year? I don't think so. But if it does, it will probably mark the greatest career turnaround in history.

A little rivlary sparring is one thing, but name-calling and trolling is just out of hand there. They complain about 'Cub Trolls', but then half of their threads are about the Cubs. Funny stuff! Yeah Cards Talk pretty much blows. There is zero moderation. Birds on the Bat is a better forum. There are some very smart posters over there. But there are also some bully types who like to pound their chests a little too much, and a few too many TLR haters. But all in all a good forum, certainly better than Cards Talk. It too could use some more moderators, though.

NTC and his value is too low. Nix has struggled as much as Corey and I'm not really a huge fan of Mench. Can't hit for crap away from Ameriquest. It will be hard to move him because of that clause and because of his salary. But lot's of teams out there, especially ones with relative positional depth but not much pitching might be willing to take a chance on such an enormous "potential" like Wood. The Rangers seem like just that kind of club to me. Wood is a Texan and he might be willing to be traded there. Not to mention that they are WC contenders who could challence for the division if they improve their pitching. Oral Hershiser might be able to do wonders for him. At this point they should consider trading him for prospects even, they could then spin those prospects for an established guy.
