  1. Another reason this trade would surprise me is that Giles is 34. If we are going to give up young pitching we should be getting youth in return. Not a 34 year old making over 8 million this season.
  2. I've read elsewhere that Jocketty doesn't want to subtract anyone from the current ML roster, meaning that he doesn't want to move Marquis, at least during the season. I've seen this Giles rumor elsewhere, but I would be really surprised if it happened, and if it did happen, if it involved Marquis.
  3. Forward this to Derrek Lee please. With half our team on the DL, we're gonna need these filler guys to play out of their butts.
  4. Well it's a little late for that.
  5. Just remember...if the Cubs are getting blown out, don't be afraid to run onto the field and tackle Pujols. We'll all be proud of you. I don't think the wife will let me...but I'll take that under advisement. right because, no offense Vance, but in your pics you don't look big enough to tackle Pujols. Actually I don't know if all of us at NSSB are big enough to tackle the JOLS. I'll take out Eckstein then! Heck yeah and take out Taguchi for playing way over his head Vance would have no chance against The Gooch.
  6. And that he's a tall, dark, handsome millionaire pro-athlete. dark? not really So you agree that he's handsome!
  7. I'm not being bold enough to predict a win here to avoid jinx purposes, but this matchup clearly favors the Cardinals. As a team we have a higher OBP and SLG against Zambrano than the Cubs do against Carp. The Cards BB/K ratio against Z is better than the Cubs BB/K ratio against Carp. The Cards have more HR against Z than the Cubs do against Carp. Not to mention that for the past two months Carp has been the best pitcher in baseball. However, we are missing Sanders, Molina, and for all offensive purposes Rolen, so that might swing things in the Cubs favor. TLR should stick Mabry and that 1.133 OPS in their against Z tomorrow night.

You know that if you take out Eckstein it just means that Nunez will take his place and hit .400?
  10. I'm thinking Lee will hit in the 315-325 range, with a 380-400 OPS, and a 550-600 SLG. Hey we're pretty close except for the BA creepy  A little bit.

  12. Ouch, that hurts. But you're right, Matty isn't nearly as pretty as his stats.
  13. It looks official. He'll miss at least one start: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=mlb&id=2113591
  14. Sammy Sosa says hi. Ah, yes, forgot about Sammy. I saw him in that Orioles game yesterday. He looks tiny now compared to a few years ago. What's been McGwire's secret to his lost bulk? Slimfast? Haven't you been banned yet? Mr. Vaball - I'd appreciate it if you weren't inflammatory. Thanks. Deadpan humor at its finest.

  16. You also have going for you that we are missing Sanders and Molina, and that Rolen is an automatic out because of his bum shoulder. I'm guessing TLR might start Mabry at third against Zamrano and Prior.
  17. Sammy Sosa says hi. Ah, yes, forgot about Sammy. I saw him in that Orioles game yesterday. He looks tiny now compared to a few years ago. That's because him and Giambi stopped going to all those fast food places together. Don't forget Pudge Rod. Yes, there is no proof, but is there any doubt these guys were on steroids? McGwire got all that heat for "not wanting to talk about the past," but the rest of those guys just straight up lied in front of Congress and seemed to get off scott free in the media.

  19. Will you shave one off if they sweep? No...., no shaving, but I would raise both of them..., just like Dan Plesac's wierd eyebrows. If the Cubs sweep, I'll raise you your raised eyebrows for a body painted Cubs logo streaking incident. I might pay to see that! Go Cubbies!!! You gotta go to the east side for that. Busch is a family place.
  20. The fact that Lee is keeping up this absurd season astounds me. I don't think Pujols will be able to win the batting title. Nor do I think Lee will win the triple crown, though he doesn't seem to be slowing down. But he can't stay this hot for an entire season, can he? Anyone think this is going to carry over into next year? I don't think so. But if it does, it will probably mark the greatest career turnaround in history.
  21. Ugh, man people are stupid. There's a few good posters on that board, but not many anymore...and the mountain of trash you have to sift through to find the nuggets makes it a waste of time. Obviously, there are many children posting on that forum, as well as many adults who act like children. Is it just me, or is every other thread on there about the Cubs? Even the threads that aren't about the Cubs turn into Cubs threads somehow. Typical thread on Cards Talk: Post 1: Hey, we won again last night. Great game. Post 2: Yeah, our pitching was awesome. Post 3: Kerry Wood is hurt again. Cubs fans are stupid. Pujols is better than Lee. Blah Blah Blah. Post 4: You know who I hate? Cubs fans. They're really stupid. They won't let me post on NSBB. I was going to tell them they suck. It was going to be funny. Post 5: Dude, that would've been an awesome post! They really do suck! NSBB is a bunch of Nazis. They're getting to be like Sox fans... they care more about a Cubs loss than a Cards win. (Not all of them, there are a few good posters left. But that board has gone straight down hill) At least the Cards fans here are actually smart, intelligent baseball fans. They represent the good side of Cardinal fans. I certainly can agree with that!! We have some pretty good Cardinal fans here. I agree with your assessment of Cards Talk as well. It used to be a good place to go talk baseball, and there were some VERY good posters there, but now it's just Cub bashing, and more Cub bashing, just for the sake of it. A little rivlary sparring is one thing, but name-calling and trolling is just out of hand there. They complain about 'Cub Trolls', but then half of their threads are about the Cubs. Funny stuff! Yeah Cards Talk pretty much blows. There is zero moderation. Birds on the Bat is a better forum. There are some very smart posters over there. But there are also some bully types who like to pound their chests a little too much, and a few too many TLR haters. But all in all a good forum, certainly better than Cards Talk. It too could use some more moderators, though.
  22. NTC and his value is too low. Nix has struggled as much as Corey and I'm not really a huge fan of Mench. Can't hit for crap away from Ameriquest. It will be hard to move him because of that clause and because of his salary. But lot's of teams out there, especially ones with relative positional depth but not much pitching might be willing to take a chance on such an enormous "potential" like Wood. The Rangers seem like just that kind of club to me. Wood is a Texan and he might be willing to be traded there. Not to mention that they are WC contenders who could challence for the division if they improve their pitching. Oral Hershiser might be able to do wonders for him. At this point they should consider trading him for prospects even, they could then spin those prospects for an established guy.
