  1. Hoops, Didn't they give Bartosh's spot to Hill?
  2. Wrong thread? Im confused. stories about anyone elses fantasy team= cute things done by kids. Telling someone about your fantasy team is just like offering to show someone pictures of your kids. They'll listen politely so they can then return the favor.
  3. My daughter writes her name backwards which is funny because since her name is sarah it spells haras.
  4. Yep. I'd never make a trade with Scheurholtz that involves pitching. He always seems to know which pitchers to acquire, and which pitchers to trade. Did he trade for Kolb or sign him as a FA? That would be the exception though. I seem to remember a quote from an anonymous GM- "If the Barves come to you to trade one of their pitchers, run" I don't believe GMs are wary of trading with Hnedry. The one sided trades he's made have been salary dumps. Most of the rest have been even.
  5. Why not just trade Mitre, Wellemeyer and Leicester for Mench? Rogers has no trades rights which he wouldn't waive even when Texas was dead last a couple years ago. They just won a couple against division leading Anaheim. How would trading Rogers help them?
  6. How bad would Maddux have to pitch to get pulled from the rotation? He'd have to be at least worse than Estes and I'm not sure that's even possible. If that happened I'd hope Maddux would retire rather than embarass himself. In any event, Maddux will be fine. They've been trying to bury him for 5 years now and every late summer he seems to come through. He may not be worth the money he's making but the Cubs have bargains everywhere else in the rotation with the exception of Wood.
  7. Sounds like a good plan to me but I still don't want to trade Hill for Millwood.
  8. I'll kill myself if we trade Hill for the super overrated Millwood. You've made that empty threat before. Maybe if we would have traded Sisco and Guzman last year or the Year before for a closer we would have gone to the playoffs or even more... Instead we have nothing, make the trades that help your Major League team, not your triple A team..... On the other hand, if the Cubs had kept Dontrelle Willis instead of trading him for help for the ML team they wouldn't need Millwood.
  9. The O's fan base is eroding. The luster of Camden Yards has worn off. Even if the Nationals weren't there they'd need to resign Ryan to avoid sending the wrong message to their fans. Angelos and the O's brain trust think they can win. Why not? The Yankees are a couple losses away from a meltdown by their owner. The Red Sox are old. The door is open.
  10. 1. I never said Patterson was the second coming of Beltran. I compared him to Jones and the numbers I believe support that argument 2. I didn't mean that as a threat and don't want you to get banned. 3. I stand by what I said about Edmonds. Though I admit I might be biased as he is the most loathesome player in MLB as far as I'm concerned.
  11. Andruw Jones did hit .303 in 2000. What you neglected to mention was what he did the next 4 years 2001 .251-------.312--------.461------142 Ks 2002 .264-------.366--------.513------135 2003 .277-------.338--------.513------125 2004 .261-------.345--------.488------147 2005 .250-------.313--------.486-------44 I guess you must have missed that when you were looking up his career best year.
  12. So you'd like him to shorten his swing and focus on making contact. That may lead to more base hits but fewer doubles and HRs. Don't watch baseball much?? I'm guessing you're a big fan of Baseball tonight. Edmonds is all flash and little substance. If he got better jumps on the ball he wouldn't need to dive all the time. A word to the wise, comments like these to anyone will make your stay here very short. Though I must admit that they make somewhat nostalgic for my Cubs.com days.
  13. Bester news, there's just about no way he isn't a free agent next season. I can think of a way. The O's drive a truckload of money to his door. With the Nats cutting into their gate revenues the O's can't afford to lose any momentum by letting Ryan walk.
  14. Sorry for the multiple posts but the fire wall here at school as kicked me out twice deleting the one long one that answered all these issues. Defensively I'd take Patterson over Jim Edmonds any day of the week. The comparison to Andruw Jones is interesting. Take a look at where Jones was when he was Patterson's age and you'll likely see a lot of paralells.
  15. Why is speed only valuable in the leadoff spot? Why would you turn a guy that "Can't get on base enough" into a slap hitter? The one thing Patterson has done is hit for HR power. Why change the one thing he's doing right?
  16. Perhaps I should clarify. I'm not saying Patterson is better than Beltran. Nor am I saying that Patterson will ever be as good as Beltran. However, as it stands right now Patterson has more HRs than Beltran. Not bad for a guy that "Thinks he's Sammy Sosa". The point: hate Patterson all you want but he does have power.
  17. You've got to be kidding, right?? The "5" tools Hitting for average-no Hitting for power-Thinks he's Sosa Fielding-average,doesn't make enough plays to be considered "great". Throwing-yes,not bad Baserunning-He doesn't get on enough to find out. Now who's kidding? Patterson has more HRs than Carlos Beltran. He should hit between 20-30 HRs. Not bad for what is primarily a defense first position. Fielding: he's better than average. He covers a lot of ground. Baserunning: He may be the fastest Cub player I've ever seen.
  18. Take a look at these other CF for a moment: Brady Clark ------unavailable Milton Bradley ---Character issues Johnny Damon --unavailable this season Carlos Beltran --unavailable and likely overpaid Mark Kotsay ----No thanks, the idea is to get somebody that's better Aaron Rowand --unavailable, not significantly better if at all Dave Roberts --Old and overachieving Jim Edmonds --unavailable and despised Juan Pierre ----and people say Patterson is overrated??? Andruw Jones--This guy used to be Corey Patterson, not worth his salary Tori Hunter ----unavailable Vernon Wells-- see Kotsay and Pierre Craig Monroe -- never heard of him The only guy on this list that might actually be available and is actually a significant improvement is Wilkerson. Is he available? If so I'd be interested. Of course there are better CF in the league. I'd rather have ARod at SS than Perez but it makes no difference because he's not available. People used to talk about 3rd base as a black hole for the Cubs. When was the last time the Cubs had an all star CF? That would be Dernier and he had only one good year. Bottom line: Patterson is frustrating to watch, he's likely not as good as the hype but not as bad as many like to believe.
  19. Assuming Maddux is still here, Rusch is the 5th starter and one of Hill, Mitre, Pinto, Guzman takes the last BP spot. Fontenot is the bench player. 2nd, SS and corner OF are interconnected. 2 of these guys need to be able to bat 1-2 while the other provides middle of the order power. Making for lots of possibilities. Leaves plenty of money to pay Wagner if they want to. Ditto for Giles.
  20. Not gonna happen. LA will win the division. And if it does, the Cubs better swoop up and get Tracy. He's the second best manager in baseball. After Dusty, of course
  21. OK so Sisco isn't coming back. There is a bright side: 1. Pitching for the Royals he'll bee effectively out of baseball - as far as the Cubs are concerned- for the next 5 years. 2. Hopefully, he'll be able to stick it to the White Sox on a regular basis. 3. Since Hendry made this decision for non baseball reasons (the only logical conclusion) it really drives his point home that it's his way or the highway. 4. Hendry will no doubt think twice before he places some roster filler, non prospect types on the 40 man ahead of a genuine prospect. Now can we please delete this thread? I don't see how belaboring the obvious does us any good.
  22. More importantly, Koronka and Rohlicek could be removed from the roster without risking too. much. Both of those guys would have a better chance of clearing waivers than Sisco would. Not that I agree with that rationale.
  23. I woder if we can ever get past our old ideas about Cruz. I thought he'd be really good/ #1 starter type good. Yet he's now on his 3rd team that hasn't wanted him in the starting rotation. Something doesn't add up.
  24. Something else to keep in mind. Even if he does stick he's pitching for the Royals. From a Cubs perspective that's almost as good as him pitching in Japan or an independent league or being out of baseball completely. Mike Wuertz, you'll remembered was unhittable for the first week and a half of last season. Then the wheels came off the cart. If the Royals can make it through the rotation without getting blown out once or twice it will be interesting to see if they're willing to use him in a meaningful game. Finally, there can't be much of a scouting report on Sisco yet. Once there is we'll see what kind of adjustment he makes. Admittedly, it doesn't look like such a good move now (ok, so it never looked like a good move) but Sisco still has a long way to go before we can really count him as gone for nothing. I still believe Hendry doesn't want him back and will work out a deal with KC. That might be best for everyone involved.
