  1. Why would the Dodgers consider moving Bradley? He's crazy. Then why would the Cubs target him in a trade?
  2. I think you have to explore a lot of trade options before you go with that OF. I agree, It wouldn't suprise me if JH did go that route. Any likely targets come to mind? When the alternative is that outfield, it may be easier to decide who not to target. Most anyone is going to be an upgrade in some fashion. Off the top of my head, Milton Bradley is my number 2 target after Giles. If Manny or Dunn are available, you have to go after them. Other names that spring to mind are Wilkerson, Guillen, Gomes, and others who aren't as good but still much better than the OF outlined above. Why would the Dodgers consider moving Bradley? too injury prone? they have enough depth @ OF? salary constraints? desperate need for SP? Gomes from TB seems very unlikely. Isn't he still @ league minimum?

  4. Let's just say Brian Giles has no interest in leaving SD, which is a very possible scenario, no matter what the cost is. Who would everyone's 2nd option for RF be? I know it's a big drop-off after B.Giles. Here are some of the FA's available: J.Jones (Burnitz type offensive numbers, but above avg. defensively,GG caliber) J.Burnitz P.Wilson J.Damon(don't think he is a fit due to him being a CF & the money he will attract) M.Lawton(traded him away for a reason) Juan Encarnacion Randy Winn (not sure if he is unrestricted FA or not) Jose Cruz Jr. or pass on all of these& go with a platoon of CPatt,Muton,Hairston & Pie
  5. What were Jeter & A-rod doing in Boston? :D
  6. Of course, many Card fan seek out Cubs message boards. The Cubs are "America's Team"!!! :D
  7. Yeah, but Cabrera's hitting 2nd for them & he's not much of an OBP guy.
  8. Wasn't it Nomar's brother? Mike Garciaparra
  9. They're a dark horse in the Nomar sweepstakes, imo. A big name signing like Nomar would be right up Bowden's alley, even if Nomar might not be able to play a full season at SS. However, considering they have a hole to fill in LF, that might be a possibility. They're also going to have to figure out what to do with Castilla and Zimmerman (who hit close to .400 in 20 games this season). Castilla's numbers were not all that great this season and he turns 39 next season. Moving him to LF would be ludicrous at his offensive production, but trading him could be out of the question due to his contract. Should be fun times, imo. I'm going on record saying Jim Bowden will do Cub Nation a favor and sign Neifi Perez to a 2 yr contract. Competition for Guzman? I don't think Neifi is looking for a utility or platoon situation.
  10. Flashback pack it is! Thank you NSBB & all contributors !!
  11. This is what I think will happen, not what I want: Walker-gone Nomar- gone Neifi- gone Macias- gone if FA/ stays if arbitration eligible Burnitz- gone Rusch- stays Patterson-stays I really think this is the off-season Hendry goes nuts. I expect a bunch of trades & a couple big FA acquisitions. Getting Dempster locked up the day before the season ended is a signal JH is ready to make it happen. One of JH's main objectives is going to improve the defense, which = Walker & Nomar gone
  12. The signing of Dempster is a good move. I would have preferred he got 2 yrs instead of 3. However, if JH didn't sign him before he filed for FA, he could have easily gotten 3 yrs from someone for more $ than what the Cubs signed him for. Dempster's K/BB is a little reason for concern, but it's also possible even if he regresses a little he can still be an effective closer. As far as Williamson is concerned, I think the Cubs will resign him. He may struggle in the beginning of next season, but it's very possible he will be solid in the 2nd half of 06'. His history shows he is a very good RP. JVB may just need some more experience. The potential is there, just not sure he'll be with the Cubs the whole 06' season. We'll see how he does in ST.
  13. FYI, Stl's starters have been horrendous the last month of the season. And our best bullpen arm, Al Reyes, went down today with an elbow problem. Cards over Pads in 4 Braves over Astros in 5 RedSox over ChiSox in 5 Yankees over Angels in 5 Cards over Braves in 6 Yankees over Redsox in 7 Cards over Yankees in 6 So the Cards starters are going to all of a sudden put it together after a sub-par month & win the WS? Not likely!
  14. ALDS: Red Sox over White Sox in 4 Angels over Yankees in 5 ALCS: Angels over Red Sox in 6 NLDS: Cards over Padres in 4 Astros over Braves in 5 NLCS: Astros over Cards in 7 WS: Angels over Astros in 6

  16. Word is that he'll either retire or go play in Japan.
  17. Why anyone would want Corey back in a Cub's unifrom next year is beyond me? He was the worst player on the Cubs this year hands down. Not even Macias or Neifi were as bad. Cheap. Defense. Potential. Look, if we were able to land both Abreu AND Giles. I could play center and we'd win 95 games. Patterson would be pretty cheap, he is still a defensive stud, and he does have a pretty nice upside. Even if he falls flat on his face again, we have Abreu and Giles. Also, for those interested, this is abreu's remaining salary: 06:$13M, 07:$15M, 08:$16M club option ($2M buyout) Corey cheap? Even if he's @ league minimum, he's too expensive!
  18. Isn't Macias arbitration eligible? If so, how can that be when he's been in the league for 7 or 8 yrs? If the Cubs do not want him back, do they just release him or do they have to deny him arbitration? Can someone explain to me how Macias' arbitration might work?

  20. Why don't the Reds just let Casey walk via FA & move Dunn to 1st? They would have an OF of Griffey,Pena & Kearns. This way they don't have to move any of their OF'ers. Is what Dunn going to make in arbitration really strap them down so bad they can't go out & acquire more pitching? Any other thoughts on the Reds situation for 06'?
  21. TBCF: I think the difference is in the context most of the time. If someone is calling a move or decision stupid, idiotic, or whatever, it's one thing. If they use the adjectives in the midst of a larger statement, it's borderline. If it's used in an ad hominem style then it's over the line. I think personally that the people here are good enough and smart enough to refrain from just insulting or demeaning players with silly nicknames or derisive nicknames. A simple "Corey sucked this year" does the job just as well. *edit* all best are off in the Rants section, though. What's the difference to posting Corey or Corey K's too much? Same thing if you ask me. What about Sammy Soso or just saying Sammy Sosa is an egotistical primaddona, selfish jerk? Same thing again
  22. In all do respect, what's the difference between saying Corey or Sammy Soso?( not allowed on this site) compared to name calling & insulting Dusty,Neifi & Macias? Moron, stupid & idiot has been used on many occasions.(allowed on this site). Answer: there is no difference, there is just a bias. It doesn't make any difference to me, just pointing out the facts.
  23. I'm just curious. What about Corey's game do you love?
