  1. I'm so glad I'm not an NFL exec. I'd be pulling my hair out. Also, because baseball is the sport I'm most knowledgeable about. I don't think any NFL teams would want to hire a baseball guy.
  2. Walker and the 5th pick for the 2nd pick is an interesting scenario. New Orleans was interested in Walker even before Williams was signed by Houston, so I'm not discounting that possiblity out. We have to get the #2 pick because if we don't, I believe the Jets will move up and take Bush which would leave the Saints with Hawk while we get shut out of the guys that I wanted. If we don't get Reggie or Hawk, I'd look for us to possibly trade down. Keep it and take whichever of Leinert or Young is still on the board. You could trade Rodgers and the 2nd-round pick for a lower 1st rounder. Or you could keep Rodgers and still take a talented player early in the 2nd round. Is giving up Javon Walker worth just 3 spots in the draft? I know he wants out, but it seems like we could get more. believe it or not, that is probably the best we could do with Walker. Thompson I guess was trying to trade him to Denver for their late 1st round pick, but they wouldn't do it. Supposedly they would have done it for a 2nd and a 4th round pick, but not a 1st rounder. Walker's value has really dropped since he tore his ACL and since he has become a somewhat minature TO lately as well. I'd like a QB, but not one of the big 3..more like someone like a Brodie Croyle or someone even on the 2nd day. I don't believe in using our high 1st round pick on a QB this year especially since we haven't even seen what Rodgers can really do yet. Man, here the homer in me was hoping we'd be able to unload Walker and the 2nd round pick for #2 overall, get Bush, then go to 5 and get Ferguson if he was still there. Or, failing that, Leinert. Yeah, I'm a hopeless idiot. I know that.

Getting Javon Walker AND the 5th pick in the draft would mean the Saints made out like bandits.
  4. ESPNews bottom line reporting the Raiders and Packers among the teams talking with the Saints about trading up for the 2nd pick. Wonder who the Packers want so bad they'd trade up.
  5. Wasn't this the same guy who said that under NO circumstances did he want to play in Green Bay? Or was that just a rumor?
  6. Drug users hurt the people around them, physically or otherwise. My Grandmother was an alcoholic. I can't tell you what it did to my mom.
  7. Sad to hear. He was obviously troubled.
  8. This makes things very, very interesting. The Saints might take that pick and trade it. Do they still have McAllister? Young, not Leinert, is rumored to be taken by the Titans now. If Leinert falls to #5, I'd love to see the Packers take him and trade Rodgers for a pick or two. Wonder how high of a pick we'll get for Walker if that Denver rumor is true. I hope DeAngello Williams is still there in the 2nd round. Ahman Green is just about done, IMO. This is why I'm not a football GM.
  9. Murton with the foul popout. Dang. Oh well. Still up by 3. Keep it for Demp and we'll be fine.
  10. Weeks thrown out stealing, he overslid and Cedeno stayed with him. Nice play, kid.
  11. What's the scoring summary thus far? edit: Nevermind, Pat just gave it.
  12. If you get rid of Jacques Jones you could have Pie and Murton in the same OF. But nobody would take that contract.
  13. Good player? Yes. Good defense (notice I didn't say "great)? Yes. All-Star? Yes. Hall of Famer? No bleepin' way. If he gets in before Andre Dawson it would be a crime.
  14. Eh, he flipped a bat at him, so what the hell....He didn't flip his bat. Goodness, are y'all watching the same video as I am?? Anyways, yes, if someone really wanted to go after him they could charge him with aggravated assault...which in the Model Penal Code reads: And yes, a bat is considered a deadly weapon. A gun is a deadly weapon as well, but it's deadliness is significantly lessened if you throw it at someone rather than shooting someone with it. True, however, there are 2 things I see as flaws in your argument. 1) You can't shoot someone with a bat. 2) You say he was wearing a chest protector, and that should lessen Delmon's punishment. If you shoot someone, accidently or otherwise, and they just so happen to be wearing a bulletproof vest, should your punishment be lessened? See the other posts I made about the gun/bat comparison, I don't think you understand what I was going for. I never said wearing a chest protector should lessen Delmon's punishment. My bad. I took it as you saying since the ump was wearing a chest protector and "didn't even flinch", therefore it wasn't that bad.

  16. Yes. If Young would have been just 6 inches higher, he could have broken the umps nose. Spitting wouldn't do that.
  17. I haven't seen video yet, so it's tough to comment. But if he just tossed it in the air and it brushed the ump, I'd say "hit bat struck the umpire" is an appropriate description. If he threw it at the guy, that's different, but I don't know yet. You'll see it soon enough. And the bat was going in a straight line till it hit the ump. That was intentional.
  18. PTI just showed a video. It goes like this... Called strike 3, Young says a few words, gets the boot, then walks off camera. A few seconds later, you see the bat come flying in from the left and hits the umpire. Most of it got his chest protector, but it looks like the knob of the bat may have hit him in the chin. This was most definately intentional. It was not an underhand "flip," it was an underhand throw.
  19. I have the same feelings whenever Angel Hernandez is anywhere on the field: especially behind the plate. The difference between Froemming and Hernandez is that Froemming seems to have it out for the Cubs, but is reasonably competent against other teams. Hernandez is just the worst umpire on the planet, regardless of who is playing. I still love the game where Mongo was in the booth during the 7th inning stretch of a game Hernandez was calling: "Don't worry Cubs fans, I'm gonna have a talk with that ump after the game." Hernandez subsequently threw him out of the park. I've loathed Hernandez ever since. Has Mongo ever been back to Wrig after that game? That will remain for a very long time one of the 5 best games I've ever seen.
  20. I have the same feelings whenever Angel Hernandez is anywhere on the field: especially behind the plate. Steve McMichael might have something to say about that.
  21. Who's worse? Froemming or CB Bucknor?
  22. I second that. I'd also give them Boise. Just promote the good players to Daytona first :D I would give them the entire farm -- let them go to town picking whomever they want. No player, and I repeat NO player is worth trading your entire farm for, literally or figureatively.
