  1. If we get Miggy Cabrera via trade, I'll change my name to "PinkFairyWussyBoy". And you can hold me to that. This is the Cubs. We're not capable of pulling off a trade for one of the best hitters in the game before he's even hit his prime yet. It's nice to fantasize about it. But that's all it will ever be: A FANTASY. Am I saying he'll never be a Cub? No. But if he ever is, he'll be 38 with 2 bad knees, a .240 batting average, and he'll get a 3-year deal.
  2. At this point, who gives a crap? It's not like we're winning anything anyway. Throw some stopgap in there for all I care. Just to be out from under that contract, and selling high on Jones would be the best news imaginable.
  3. Thankfully I've already given up on this season, or I'd care.
  4. Not something I would be altogether opposed to.
  5. I agree with everything except number 3. Keep the leagues. And draft picks ought to be able to be traded. Although the way he says it is kinda dumb. What I want is a player to be able to be traded for Draft Picks. Arod could be traded for players, prospects, and a 2nd round pick, perhaps. Every other sport lets you trade picks. Why not MLB?
  6. Such a class act, that Ozzie Guillen.
  7. Agreed. But, with Jim Hendry at the controls, we should all be very scared. But...but....he traded for Aramis! And Nomar!! And Lee!! Everyone loves DLee!!
  8. No stadium has ever been responsible for a team winning or losing. The Cubs could play in a shiny new state-of-the-art stadium with all the best of everything, and they'd still stink.
  9. Reads good to me as well however, its got to start with a removal of Baker. Despite his claims to contrary, he's shown an unwillingness to let a young player play thru his struggles. Pie, Murton, Roit will all, at some point slump, upon which Baker will start pulling the crap he's currently doing with Murton. Pierre, who will "do his thing" gets start after start to bring his OBP up to .300 yet, Murton after a few bad weeks suddenly needs to be platooned because he struggling with RHP, simply amazing. I want last year's "patient OBP conscience Matt Murton" back. The guy who hit and got on base before Baker conveniently told him to be more aggressive. Watch him now and see how many first pitches he swings at. He hardly ever did that in the small sample we had of him last year. I do to but, I don't believe we'll see that version of Murton until Baker' gone. His knowing that playing time is limited and he's got to produce immediately surely must play a part in his recent willingness to swing at first pitches. By the time Baker is gone, he'll have been completely ruined.
  10. I think this harkens back to the Trib being clueless. They saw us get to within 5 outs of the pennant in 2003, saw Jim Hendry at the helm, and figure "He's the guy to get us there again!" The whole Cubs organization is of the "It worked once, so therefore it must work every time" philosophy.
  11. You could do a Mythbusters tie-in. Think of the ratings! And the explosions!
  12. The Trib knows that a winning team is more profitable than a losing one (see: 1998, 2003). They're just clueless. They've been willing to spend the money, but have no idea how to do so.
  13. Look at our payroll. It's something like $95 million. In no way is a lack of spending the problem. The problem is how that money is spent.
  14. If you're gonna suck, go all-out. I'm hoping this team loses 100 games this year and the management is cleaned out from top to bottom.
  15. I completely echo your sentiments. I do not want to see this pan out to be true. Nor do I. As much as I dislike the Cardinals, I have tremendous respect for Pujols and his abilities. Now if this was Edmonds, however.....
  16. Then there was that day he threw puppies off the overpass and set a bus full of nuns on fire.
  17. Agreed. This team has far, far worse problems than Todd Walker.
  18. Todd Walker can be the Cubs 2nd baseman for as long as he wants.
  19. In theory, it'd be a good offer, but another team would trump it if ARod was on the block. If he ever gets traded, the team that gets him will vastly overpay. I don't think that the bolded statement is necessarily true. Arod has been the whipping boy of Steinbrenner, the fans, and the media in NY. Also, taking into account is his salary and how much the new team will pay. Of course, everyone's definition of "overpaying" may be different. I happen to think the offer you stated (Wood, Aram, Jones, and a reliever) is overpaying depending on salary issues and other deals that the Cubs might make. Looked at another way, did the Yankees overpay when they traded for ARod? I don't think so. If the Yankees could get him from Texas without overpaying, what has changed this time around? They're the Yankees. We're the Cubs.
  20. He has passed away. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2472025
  21. Agreed. Anything for a World Series title at this point. True. But a Dusty Baker extention is not going to bring us one.
  22. My biggest memory of him is the 1997 NLCS in which the strike zone for Marlins pitcher Livan Hernandez was from Orlando to Key West.
