  1. Getting back on topic, I think this deal can work out for both sides. LA, obviously, gets a huge amount of talent, and the Red Sox essentially get to start over on the FA market this year, and they got some pretty good talent back in return. Could be the rare trade that helps both sides.
  2. Ha - I suppose that sooner or later one of the insults hurled at him is funny. I just find it absurd that he's universally recognized as the board punching bag and 1) he keeps coming back and 2) people keep reading. Yeah, because if people say bad things about you, you should just run away and cry and never show your face again. He can be here all he wants, as far as I'm concerned. If someone doesn't like a poster, they should, oh, I don't know.... USE THEIR IGNORE FEATURE, or shut the hell up about it because it can't be that bad if you're completely unwilling to act. I do use the feature. It's been discussed elsewhere recently. It's funny that you'd tell me to shut the hell up in a comment defending someone's else right to post whatever they want. No big deal - not looking for an argument. The most telling thing is that the two posters to jump all over you over this have been Theo and erik. Keep on keepin' on. Actually the most telling thing is you not actually contributing anything to the discussion yet disagreeing anyway. It tells me you don't disagree, you just feel like trolling.

  4. Adrian Gonzalez hit a 3-run homer in his first Dodgers AB.
  5. I wonder if Theo is experiencing any schadenfreude right now.
  6. Went through the same thing, diagnosed in 2008. Coming up on my 4 year anniversary of diagnosis. Everything has worked out great for me so far. 2 surgeries and 3 rounds of chemo weren't fun, but worth it. If need any advice, or have questions, let me know. My doctor was Armstrong's doctor. He always speaks highly of the work he has done for IU Medical Center. His opinion of the man is good enough for me. Keep kicking ass, man. Cancer sucks.
  7. On SOSH, they are hearing that the Dodgers will pick up 96% of the salary coming from Boston. I definitely think this is a good trade for the Red Sox, but I'm surprised the Sox fans aren't more upset about losing AGonz after all the fanfare his arrival brought 2 years ago. I know he's underperformed a bit but the dude is still a great hitter and young enough (well..he's 30) to be a contributor 2-3 years down the road. Would you have bailed on the Soriano contract in August 2008 if the Cubs were out of it and not likely to contend in 2009? If you could get a return and not pay most of the contract? Hell yes.
  8. The Dodgers will have Hanley Ramirez (traded for Josh Beckett) and Beckett himself.
  9. It was said somewhere upthread that Boston is kicking in some cash on the deal, but do we know exactly how much?
  10. Not with all the salary relief they're getting.
  11. Even though the Cubs are probably going to lose 100 games this year, I bet Theo is glad he got out when he did. That's an even bigger mess than the one he took on in Chicago.
  12. Isn't Crawford on the DL? I thought players on the DL couldn't be traded. Gotcha. Thanks. :good:

  14. He's the centerpiece of the whole deal. Take out Punto and the whole thing just falls to pieces.
  15. My father-in-law works at Trek HQ and has met Lance a few times. Never one-on-one, but always in a group setting. Lance had a huge entourage that fawned over him, and he acted genuinely put out by any request the Trek people made of him. He was there to check out his brand-new custom-made bike.
  16. That's true. Kudos to him there, and he's raised a lot of money for charity as well. He's not a monster, but he didn't achieve those Tour victories by himself, and I don't dispute the decision to strip him of those victories and ban him for life.
  17. Probably because they feel misled. They wanted so badly to believe his story and his accomplishments, and they're all disillusioned by the fact that he didn't do it on his own merit and cheated.
  18. [expletive] cancer. best of luck Agreed. Kick ass.
  19. I'm pretty sure he had some B-samples turn up positive from a few of his Tour wins.
  20. It took a lot of ball for him to keep fighting for this long.
  21. ..and also will likely be banned for life from cycling. He is dropping his appeals regarding the doping allegations. http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-lance-armstrong-usada-doping-case-20120823,0,1326584.story
  22. He's not human, just a video game character transported into our world. I wouldn't have thought such a feat could be humanly possible.
  23. Sounds good to me. Make it the 9th inning of the last home game at Wrigley this year, regardless of the score.
  24. My point is that nobody should. We're all adults, and it's sad how quickly some resort to petty name-calling like we're on the playground at recess.
  25. I have no idea if such a thing could be calculated, but if it could be, I'd be fascinated to see the odds of such an occurrence.
