  1. I know your pain. When I was in the dorms, WGN was on channel 19 on the local cable company. Well, the campus information channel just happened to be Channel 19. i was pissed.
  2. That's awesome. I would have figured that Ricketts would have his own private aircraft, though.
  3. I decided to wait until his BA was above his wait to continue that. Luckily this will be a lot easier this year. He certainly won't have to win the batting title to match it, that's for sure.
  4. My working hours are great this week. Usually I'd hate them, but I have today off, I work a crappy shift tomorrow but it doesn't matter because the Cubs are off, I'm off by 2 on Wed and I'm off on Thursday so I won't miss a single pitch of the opening series. \:D/ \:D/
  5. I don't think he'd be horribly expensive, and would be great to have as a power bat off the bench. If only there were room for him. :(
  6. That sinker can give us fits. Anyway, let's make some predictions about Cubs firsts. First Cubs hit: I'll say brand new Cub Marlon Byrd First run scored: Lee First opposing batter to K: Rookie Phenom Jason whatshisname First Cubs relief pitcher used in 2010: Grabow First Cubs HR: ARAMBOMB!!! Cubs win today 7-2. Book it.
  7. The Reds would actually be my sleeper Wild Card pick if it wasn't for Dusty.
  8. I hope so. I will be greatly amused by the shock and outrage analysts show over the TRAVESTY of a mid-major team from the Horizon League sullying the good name of the tournament by having the audacity to win. I don't mind the fact that the best teams should have an easier time getting to the finals, but I don't understand the fact that there are people who pretty much want to put Kindergarten teams up against them so they'll just waltz into the finals. If that's the case, why even have a tournament?
  9. I must have seen the "David vs. Golliath" comparison for the Duke/Butler game in at least half a dozen places by now. I hate that comparison. David won, idiots. Your comparison is flawed! Flawed, I say!
  10. To brewers fans it is. Going to a brewers game in recent years...it's definitely turned into a big rivalry. Especially in their minds. Agreed. They also had a big "Take Back Miller Park" campaign for Cubs games because they were sick of Cubs fans turning it into Wrigley North. That lasted about half a season.
  11. Sure it was a great moment, but I don't think it's among the top 9 in the history of the franchise.
  12. The Cubs will win 85 games this year, max, and that's if a lot of things go right. I just don't see more than that. We're not as good as last year. Soto and Soriano need to rebound, Lee needs to keep his power stroke, Aram needs to stay healthy, Lilly needs to be effective when he comes back, the bullpen needs to not implode, and Marmol needs to be the Marmol we all know he can be. Maybe if we're in first at the deadline and we make a huge trade for a superstar we'll eclipse that mark, but I don't see more than 85 with the way the roster sits at the moment.
  13. You don't think that this expansion would make the tournament horribly watered down and make the regular season pretty much worthless? No, not really. If anything, it will give more exposure to schools outside the big 6, and give most, if not all of them more winnable games than they have now. I respect your opinion, but I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one, bukie.

  15. I think Packers-Vikings increased as a rivalry this past year because of Brett Favre, but on the whole Bears-Packers is the biggest rivalry in the NFC North and it isn't even close. Honestly I think only Bears fans think that. I doubt you'd find many Packers fans who'd agree, and I'd say that goes back before Favre jumped ship. Yep. The Packers fans I knew at UW-Madison unanimously thought their main rival was the Vikings. Considering the Packers beat the Bears like a drum throughout a good chunk of the 90s and 00s, and also considering the Vikings were much more competitive against the Packers over that stretch, a lot of Packers fans don't see the Bears as being on nearly the same level as the Vikings. I agree. To me, the Vikings are the football equivilent of the Cardinals: I despise them and all they represent. I don't care much for the Bears either, but I hate the Vikings much, much more than them.
  16. There are only 12, and 6 seeds from a conference have won the Super Bowl. No one seeded in the bottom half of a 64-team NCAA bracket has won the tournament, or even made the final, and only 2 teams in the bottom half have made the Final Four. so what's the problem? if you're not worried about these teams actually ruining your bracket and winning, that just means it's more basketball to watch or bet on or not. i don't see how this impacts anyone's life negatively. And I don't see how you even can wonder if this affects anyone's life negatively. Of course it doesn't. People can post opinions about not liking things even if it doesn't negatively affect their lives.
  17. Well hell, as long as we're at it, why stop at 96? Why not go whole hog and make it a cool 128? I can't wait to see who the 8 #1 seeds will be! Nothing personal, Truffle, I just think your argument is flawed. I'm a big "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" kind of guy. WELL HELL LET'S JUST LET SOME HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS PLAY IN IT TOO! WHY STOP THERE, LET'S JUST INVITE THE WOMEN TO PLAY IN THE SAME BRACKET. EVERYTHING THAT IS DIFFERENT IS WRONG AND IF I DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT IT PEOPLE WON'T REALIZE WHAT A SPORTS MANIAAAAAAAAAC I AM. Trolling on the internet must be the highlight of your lonely, pathetic life. I didn't say "different is wrong." I said "if it isn't broken, don't fix it." There's a difference. "Change just for the sake of change" doesn't make a whole lot of sense. 64 teams ensures that just about all the qualified teams get in and get a shot. 65 teams is just a TV money grab for two teams who fight for the right to get slaughtered by a Kansas or Duke or whoever. 96 teams is just insane and waters down the postseason. It should be an actual accomplishment to make the playoffs, and if you expand it to 96 it takes that away.

  19. This is completely asinine. It's fine how it is. This is simply a desperate attempt at a money grab. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/tournament/2010/news/story?id=5047800 I guess on the bright side it may get rid of the Not Important Tournament (NIT)
  20. I know one time there was a poor older woman in the 50's or 60's who took her two grandsons to either a Phillies or A's game. She was struck by a foul ball and had to be taken out on a gurney. As they're wheeling her out, she got hit again by another foul ball.
  21. I was meaning to post a thread about this guy and you beat me to it. And my understanding of the rule is that a pitcher can pitch with either hand, but it has to remain that way for the duration of the AB. The hitter also must pick a side of the plate and stay there for the AB. I hope this guy does well, because I think it would be cool as hell to see him succeed.
