  1. Read my post above. I did that quite clearly. They have had 3 futility records just in the past week that haven't been matched in years by anyone in baseball (consecutive hits by the Rockies, the 2-3-4 guys on the Brewers, and the AB allowed with RISP) or by the franchise in the case of the 26 hits . Also being outscored by 46 runs over the past 6 games, the cycle, and the losing streak are not unique to the Cubs as there have been many cases of that hapening every single season, but if you pile it on top of everything else what more proof do you need? I'm not saying the Cubs are the worst team in the Majors this season, or ever. All I'm saying is that I can't recall the Cubs or any other team having as bad of a week as the Cubs have had on the field in recent memory. Don't read any further into it than that. Except that's not all you're saying since you pull the "only the Cubs" shtick time and time again. And why the hell are you acting like a "futility record" is some horrible, unique thing? Again, baseball is filled these kinds of meaningless streaks and records. They're matched and beaten and created all of the time, every season. I mean, they way you're putting it seems to imply that if the Cubs had managed to just barely avoid those horrible "futility records" then it wouldn't be an "only the Cubs" week. Well, it's "horrible" because the very definition of the word "futility" means " n- the quality of being futile; ineffectiveness; uselessness." Sounds like a certain baseball team we know this past week And it's "unique" because the Cubs this week have sucked in ways very few teams have in a very, very long time. Any other questions?
  2. Ok then. You learn something new every day.
  3. Seriously. If you give Tim Kurkjian a bag of M&M's or something, I'm sure he can compile a list for every team every season that's so bizarre. It's the same as saying nonsense like "the Cubs couldn't beat a little league team right now". Everyone knows it's not true, and saying it makes a person sound like an overly-invested goof who doesn't understand the specifics of what's actually happening. I agree. If I said "The Cubs couldn't beat a Little League team right now" you may be correct. But it's not like you need to be a super expert to see what's going on here. The Cubs suck, and right now this past week they've sucked as badly as I can ever remember them sucking, and I include the hideous early 90's seasons, '99, 2000, 2002, and 2006 in there. And yet the Cubs aren't even in the bottom 5 in MLB in record this year. And they weren't in the bottom 10 last year. Or the bottom 20 the two years before that. That's why "only the Cubs" is rubbish, because this sort of thing(especially the "wow this has been a really, really bad week" stuff), happens to EVERY SINGLE TEAM IN THE HISTORY OF EVER. I HAVE A CAPS LOCK KEY TOO!!! And you're arguing points I never even brought up. And if it's not "only the Cubs" prove me wrong. You say it happens to every team every season, then prove it. If it happens that frequently it should be no problem to find just one instance and prove me wrong and shut me up, which is what I can tell you so desperately want to do. Prove me wrong. And this isn't your fault, but I'll quote from the post I made right before this one:

  5. Interesting strategy that I'd never considered before: 3 or 4 times a year just push everyone in the rotation back a day just for the sake of not wearing them down so much, even if the 5 starters are all totally healthy and not up against innings limits or what have you. I don't necessarily disagree with giving your starters extra rest, especially later in the season. Use a long man in the pen for that. But is it really wise to waste an option on a player and start his service clock early for just one game?

  7. 1) It should be quite obvious by now that I don't care if people pay attention to me. You obviously are by reading my posts and responding to them. And you're bringing up 2 years ago? Really? 2) You don't have to get as specific as I did, just do some generalizations that are somewhat comparable to the things I've posted. And if you can bring up similar things about any other team in baseball like you say you can, do it. It just has to be within the span of one calendar week and the events need to be similar to the ones I listed about the Cubs. Do that and I'll gladly concede.
  8. Agreed. Give it to Ronny if you want to continue to have an announcer do it, or just have the organist do it. But I'm tired of seeing D-list schlubs promoting some crappy movie or something who probably couldn't name 2 guys on the team.
  9. He and Prior are the poster children for the whole "What if" argument.
  10. Bad things do happen to other teams, but the Cubs have had a spectacularly bad week. Can you name another team that has done all of the following in one week? One or two, sure, but ALL of them? : --Rockies batted around twice in one inning, getting 11 consecutive hits in the process, tying the Major League record and plating 12 runs --Lost 6 straight games -- Allowed 26 hits in a game for the first time in 53 years -- The Brewers batted around in consecutive innings last night -- Brewers also had 29 AB's with RISP last night-- only the 2nd time that has happened in a game since 1974 -- Allowed 14 hits to the 2-3-4 hitters last night, the first time that has happened since at least 1961 anywhere in the majors -- Had one of our best SP this year go on the DL with a freak and quite scary heart episode (I'll grant you that this had nothing to do with the Cubs play, but still) --Been outscored 63-17 in the previous week -- Given up the cycle to a player, and allowing him to complete it on a walk-off HR, no less and that's not even everything. Now do you want to tell me I'm wrong when I've said "only the Cubs" could have a week like this? All you need to do is find another team that had a worse week and you win.
  11. Where did we get this guy? Did we pick him up after Texas released him?
  12. Exactly. Fielder is basically standing on the plate, he has to expect teams to pitch him inside and thus get hit because his fat ass is too slow to get out of the way of a pitch. The Brewers really need to stop whining about HBP's. After the beanball last night the Brewers announcers were pretty much saying "if you don't know how to pitch inside, you shouldn't be up here." I don't know if the pitch got away from him or not. All I know is that the announcers are fully on board with the whole "Everyone is picking on the Brewers" BS bandwagon.
  13. I said only the Cubs. I did not say "woe is me." I may be wrong, but it seems I or anyone else would have a hard time finding teams that can suck this badly for this long. There may have been a few, but when the Cubs get really really bad they're worse than anyone. I'm not going to get into this with you, as neither of us is going to convince the other and it'll just devolve into a huge argument, so you can have the last word on this. It'll probably a personal attack in some form, as that seems to be how you like to operate, but go right ahead. Be in your little happy bubble all you want. Let me know when you actually see the light.
  14. Biggest attention whore I've ever seen. I put it at 95% he's starting for the Vikings or someone else Week 1.
  15. The Vikings. Probably. If by some miracle he really is done, then his last pass attempts with the Packers, Jets, and Vikings were all interceptions.
  16. So which team will he be back with this season?
  17. And to think there were people throwing their name in with the Twins and Expos a few years ago with all that contraction nonsense. They have some really good people in their organization that molded all of those high draft picks into useful players. Other teams should model themselves after Tampa.
  18. The last time the Cubs allowed 26 hits in a game? 1957 Brewers had 29 AB's with RISP-- tied for 2nd most since 1974 Brewers 2-3-4 hitters had 14 hits last night... first time in the expansion era (1961) that a team's 2-3-4 hitters had that many hits in a single game. I know I'll get ripped on for "only the Cubs," but ONLY THE CUBS can suck THAT badly in a single game. I give about a 40% chance that sometime this game or the next game we'll see a bench-clearing brawl. The Cubs are pissed from losing so much and the Brewers are all butthurt about HBP-- something's gotta give.
  19. At least the Cubs have decided they want to settle on "funny bad" for a while.
  20. I remember Dodger fans being pretty excited about him around the time of our playoff series against them 2 years ago. It wasn't as much "He's the next Chase Utley" as much as it was "here is another reason why the future is bright with our club, he should be our starter for the next 10 years". If DeWitt can grow to be similar to a Todd Walker type player with slightly better speed and glove than he is a very solid player at 2B. I'd be all for that. I loved Todd when he was here.
  21. I know. MLB would hate it. Assuming no epic swoons, and no matter what the Commissioner's Office says, you gotta know they're rooting for Yankees vs. Cardinals.
  22. I do believe commenting on how much weight it looks like he's lost is perfectly on topic.
  23. I usually like to see the "unconventional" matchups that MLB would hate, like Rangers/Rays vs Padres/Braves. I don't want the Yankees or Cardinals there, so I guess any other team coming out of either league would be ok with me.
  24. I'm torn. I want Kerry to get a ring but I don't want the Yankees to win the WS. Decisions, decisions. Just wait and see how things shake out. If it's Kerry and the Yankees kicking the Cardinals ass I don't think you'll mind. If the WS comes down to Yanks/Cards I won't be watching much of it.
