  1. Wang is the fan's choice over Cliff Lee for 'clutch performer of April.' Fans = silly.
  2. Did Gagne just wave the fielders in because Soto swung and missed? What was that about?
  3. I just scared the living hell out of the cat!
  4. Woo Fuku. If Soto knocks him in, I'm dancing.
  5. Was there a chin goatee mandate? Even Fontenot has one. Lilly has graduated from last year's Stripes-era Bill Murray: http://i.a.cnn.net/si/images/baseball/mlb/players/6223.jpg http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/54/039_31742~Bill-Murray-Posters.jpg ...to more of a Groundhog Day-era Bill Murray: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_150404.jpg http://aflyoverblog.typepad.com/a_flyover_blog/images/big_bill_in_groundhog731047.gif I can't wait for the Lost In Translation days.
  6. Felix looks like a nervous kid on the first day of school - which probably wasn't far from the truth. Perfect posture, young man.
  7. Lilly is such a dead-ringer for Bill Murray. And... http://www.mlb.com/pressbox/photos/headshots_players_coaches/112526_raw.jpg HEED! Down! That's a 'uge noggin.
  8. Padilla is such a notorious malcontent I wouldn't even pay 50 cents on the dollar to get him. He's never in good shape - has hit 200 innings once in the last 4 seasons, pitched poorly last season, and is an on or off-field incident waiting to happen. He's also famously slow between pitches. There's gotta be a better trade target than him somewhere.
  9. Like Pettitte and Vina, this sounds a lot more like damage control than the truth.
  10. Well, Clemens and Bonds are the best pitcher and hitter of the last 20 or 30 years. No doubting that. But I was expecting other big names on the list. I agree. Given that their source seems to mostly be two guys, it's a pretty healthy list of players. Given that the data they're basing it on are personal checks, I'm surprised they caught as many as they did. What kind of moron buys an illegal substance with a personal check?
  11. Well, Clemens and Bonds are the best pitcher and hitter of the last 20 or 30 years.
  12. Ray King. He was using the dingdongstronol prescription, the evilest steroid of them all.
  13. Josias Manzanillo Damn you cruel fate! Manzanillo, too?! Life may no longer be worth living.
  14. Dude! Dusty Baker was the manager of the San Francisco Giants in 2003 when the news of the BALCO raids broke. Baker advised my investigators in an interview that he was close to Marvin Benard and was “completely shocked” when he became aware of the allegations that Benard used steroids. After Baker learned of the allegations, he asked Benard if they were true. According to Baker, Benard admitted he had used steroids previously but said that he had stopped. Baker did not report Benard’s admission to anyone in Giants management or the Commissioner’s Office.
  15. Or was just smart enough to not use a personal check.
  16. Juan Gonzales' luggage mentioned on page 95. No mention of the fabric or brand, or that his luggage combination was 1...2....3.
  17. Just ran across a Mo Vaughn check.
  18. Damon 3 years ago would've been nice, but he's slowing down and has a Pierre-esque arm. Marquis is wasted money at this point, but I wouldn't put Damon high on my wish list.
  19. The LSU fight song is playing in my head. Over & over. It's awesomeness.
  20. Silly trade for the Mets. Milledge could've caught them a much bigger fish.
  21. Long lost compensatory 1st round draft pick alert. :(
  22. Cubs player at or near his lowest career trade value: check Target player average or below offensively: check Target player "toolsy", but doesn't put up any numbers: check Target player had one good-ish year, and only a foolishly optimistic GM would expect him to repeat that: check Target player redundant because of cheaper options that would probably perform no worse: check Target player rarely draws walks: check Hendry formula satisfied. Go time.
  23. This would be sort of like letting Michael Jackson babysit.
