  1. Come on, boys. Let's get back in this. 8-5 now.
  2. Sweet. Another too-long, too-much signing of an aging player who already hit his peak and will be a terrible contract no later than halfway through. Hendry may be a one trick pony, but does he ever know how to play that one trick well.
  3. Oh, and I don't get the trade then resign method that a lot of columnists are proposing. You'd trade him and get a prospect or two, then give up two draft picks to resign him? If that was really a consideration, then just keep him and resign him...though (unless we find another Hendry to take some of our overpaid, aging "stars") there's got to be teams that will have more money to offer.
  4. They're pretty thin throughout, although they have a few intriguing guys. I'd give some thought to a package built around Revere or Hicks in exchange for Harden. I was looking at their list of prospects and Revere was my first choice, though he sounds a bit Juan Pierre-ish. Speed, contact, no arm...and Revere supposedly isn't a great defender yet. Still, he could be a real, cheap leadoff hitter. Given how much money we'll have tied up in average players, cheap and productive would be nice. A nice (preseason) run down of their prospects from a fan: http://joshsopinion.blogspot.com/2009/02/top-50-twins-prospects-2009-1-aaron.html He mentions that Revere might be a better fit at 2B and played there in HS. That'd fit us just as well as a CFer would.
  5. Mlbtraderumors noting that Rosenthal said there might actually be something to the Harden deal because the Twins need to show Mauer and Morneau that they're serious. There's not much else intriguing to talk about at this point (other than hoping Sorinao's MRI means Fox will play all September), so what could a reasonable package of minor leaguers be? I know we'd be giving up those potential draft picks for Harden, but why not get two (or more) minor leaguers who've gotten past the draft-pick-bust stage and the bonuses are already paid?
  6. Mitre and Gaudin combined to 1-hit the ChiSox today? That's kind of cool.
  7. Sori totally would've caught that, too! You're nothing great, Sam Fuld! (Yes, I know Sori would've been just about to his 3rd step and almost fully turned around when that ball hit the bricks.)
  8. Wonder who the PTBNL is. If it were to remotely even out the player values, it'd have to be quite a player.
  9. If that was the real return the Rays were going to get...wow. That's barely enough to get just some random old guy off the Pirates every year. Kazmir's been sucking it this year and his salary is a tough pill for the Rays to swallow next year...but go for the wild card, trade him in the offseason and get more for him. If this year is an anomaly and Kazmir returns to form, he's a well-above-average ML pitcher. If he returns halfway to form, he's still a decent starter.
  10. Poorest judgment in spent money of the night: half the Cubs lineup or that massive ice cream cone that 'rubenesque' lady was just eating?
  11. That we could be 13 games back in 3 weeks?
  12. If I'm doing the math right, Soriano earns about $105,000 per game ($17M over 162 games). I just wanted to see that written out to see if it looked as crazy as it sounded in my head.
  13. But there are dogs on the field. Everything will be ok. Certainly, that chihuahua could put up a better OPS than Soriano.
  14. Sori almost tried to pretend he cared if he fielded that cleanly.
  15. Those were awesome nunchuck skills, DLee.
  16. I think my cat's heart rate is almost down to normal after me screaming when Mitchell went yard in the first.
  17. If he gets suspended, I hope he at least kicked the guy in the groin. He should get the groin kick just on general principle. PS - awesome game. I almost didn't DVR it because I thought there was no chance. replay is on now on espn2, btw.
  18. DJ LeMahieu looked great in Omaha. He hit the ball all over the field and was solid at second. I think he's probably already outgrown SS. The only question is if he'll grow into a third baseman. If he can stay at second with a live bat, I'd be fine with that. Still a bit of a reach if that's what you get, but after BrownlieHarveyPawelek and all that, I wouldn't complain.
  19. Heck yes, we did. Awesome win. And a great series for a (hopefully) future Cubbie, DJ. It'll be hard to pull for Jared Mitchell in a ChiSox uni, but I'll do it anyway. Great team, great to watch. Oh, and I think the hot weepy blonde was Manieri's daughter. Looked just like his wife who they kept focusing on (because it wouldn't be ESPN if they didn't have a meaningless shot of someone in the stands instead of the team running out to celebrate.)
  20. How about DJ? Homer, 2-out, 2-run double in the 9th to tie it, draw a walk & steal 2nd, 3rd on the error, score the winning run. And he played solid defense. Coleman was killing me with those BP fastballs he was throwing, but he battled considering the conditions. I can't imaging what those two catchers feel like right now. Geaux Tigers!
  21. A few, actually. CF Leon Landry (he of the holy crap catch last year: ) And mostly footballer and OF/LHP Chad Jones (he of the holy crap fumble that won the Bama game in 2007 on the way to the national title: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6WcTYY4zT8, and the nifty dreads on the mound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAgI2YcccqY) But I get your point...it's often like a country club out there.
  22. (One of the resident LSU fans here.) I think DJ is destined for 2nd base. He doesn't really have the arm or range for short. He's still a lanky kid, so he could get stronger and put on a little arm strength - maybe even be an option at 3rd if his power came along a bit, but his range is likely as good as it'll get. They could very well give him a shot at SS, but I don't see him sticking there. Second base seems like the most likely fit for his glove and bat. He's really swung the bat well in Omaha - he's hitting line drives to all fields.
  23. And it was an ARod pop-up on a 3-1 count, no less. I actually feel bad for guys when that kind of thing happens, though Castillo does have his millions of dollars to console himself with.
  24. Ho-lee-cow. That Mets/Yankees ending was utterly epic.
