Thanks, that helps. "Performing an attacking maneuver on the ball within the penalty box" was apparently the call, lol. Seriously though: The ref was starting to motion just as Edu makes contact with the ball. I don't know what he saw, but looks to me like the Slovenian who bowled someone over right in the middle of the box bought a call with his "look at all this ridiculous CONTACT!" pantomime. But Edu wasn't caught up in that traffic.

Huh. I don't have access to replay, and from what I remember (in my itty bitty window) it looked like Edu actually came through the box relatively clean compared to the others. I'm not doubting that's what their rationale was/is--but seems awfully questionable. So now on to several days of "these officials are taking the game away from the players" talk from the USA, Germany, etc.

I'd like to see that. Couldn't get ESPN3 to work in office. They did a post-match interview with Bradley, and that's what he said, twice. "We were just trying to get clarification on why the goal was waved off. Nobody knows." fwiw, online stats currently credit USA with 0 offsides for the match. I'm extremely curious to see if an explanation is given. I'm guessing they'll fall back on some ticky-tack thing off the ball.

Great. All we need now is additional discipline resulting from a postgame confrontation with the horrid ref. A hard-earned draw. Would shoulda coulda been 3, but still very much alive.
