  1. J-Rod has sucked the past month
  2. The fact that Carpenter can go deep into games throwing a little amount of pitches and still be very effective shows that he has great stamina and isn't being abused. Isn't this thread supposed to be about Rolen anyway?
  3. More than likely, they will never stop believing in luck
  4. If Rolen needs surgery, he needs to get it so he can be healthy for next year. As long as Walker and Sanders can come back, I think they can do without Rolen
  5. As long as he isn't making a ton of pitches, he could pitch complete games for all I care
  6. What the hell are win shares anyway? I've never even heard of them?
  7. But if the team misses the playoffs by, lets say 5.5 games, how valuable was he really to the team?
  8. It's plenty hot in St Louis even when the sun is down
  9. If the Cubs make the playoffs, Lee deserves to win. Otherwise it should be Pujols
  10. Good thing for the Cards that almost all playoff games are at night
  11. The thing about Manny Ramirez is that he isn't bad at fielding. He leads the ML in assists for outfielders and he is probably the best at playing balls of the Green Monster in Boston
  12. And when I think of speed, I think of Ichiro and Juan Pierre.
  13. Barry Bonds is not an all around player anymore. And if he wasn't so close to breaking the HR record, he would have retired this year, atleast thats my opinion
  14. *Points to CPatts post* That's the reason - city ordinances. With Daley running Chicago (White Sox fan and also all-around nepotistic jerk), the Cub org also needs to tow the line pretty closely. Most of the rest of the postings to this topic are MORANIC. ;-) (Mis-spell is intentional - it's an NSBB joke, based on a mis-spelled sign by Cards fan.) I know you won't care, but the 'moran' thing was started by Blues fans making fun of someone that used to troll on a Blues board
  15. For me, being an all-around player means having the five tools of baseball: speed, strong arm, hitting for average, hitting for power, and fielding. So that would be guys like Bonds in his prime, Larry Walker in his prime, Bobby Abreu, Carlos Beltran... Well said! Doesn't D. Lee and Albert have these tools at least compared to those in the league? I will admit that D. Lee and Albert are not your typical 5 tool players but they both are great athletes who are great at all facets of the game. I would have to put both of these guys before Jeter, Pudge/skinny, and Chipper Jones. Lee can become a 5 tool player if he keeps his average up. If not, he probably has 4 of the 5 tools, not sure about speed. For Pujols, he would need to become faster, which won't be happening. Pujols is a smart baserunner though which can make up for his lack of speed
  16. Yep, sure can. But not when he's coaching the team with the highest payroll in the league (including Sosa's money). And you're kidding yourself if you think this is the 1 bad year. Last Sept was absolutely dispicable. Dusty clearly lost control of his team. The Cubs have been in the top 3 in payroll in the NL for all his 3 years, and they got 1 playoff berth, with a mediocre 88 wins. Regardless of the wins/losses, Dusty has lost complete control. The team was fighting with their own broadcasters, leaving early, quit on him. This year, the team has had several spans of horrible baseball. Point is, he hasn't done what he was brought in here to do. He wasn't a good fit then, he's not a good fit now. Using this line of thinking, I suppose Joe Torre should have been fired already. A payroll far and above every other team in baseball, a roster full of All-Stars, the ability to land just about any player in the offseason and during the regular season, the "Choke of All Ages" last year against their chief rival and amazingly inconsistent play for the better part of this season. Joe Torre has a handful of World Series rings. He gets a mulligan. Right...2001. What about 2002, 2003 and 2004? It's a shame players don't get blamed enough for losing games

What you just talked about was the players not the manager, sure Baker should be able to control them, but if the players have bad attitudes they aren't going to listen to the manager. JMO.
  18. I think it's kinda funny fans want him fired after he just brought them back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in over 30 years. Can't a guy have one bad year?

  20. Of course it will, it will improve the team now, and for next year. How is that not doing anything? It will help for next year maybe, but the only thing that could help now would be a shaking the line-up up. I just think firing a manager during the season tells the players they won't be held responsible for their play.
  21. It's almost be funny to see another So Taguchi occurrence
  22. Yankees overpaid for AVG players and most of them are getting old now. Their GM is probably one of the worst in baseball. What's our excuse? Most of the players on the Yankees aren't average, they just aren't having good years. Same could be said for some of the Cubs
  23. I think it all starts with the managers. TLR expects his team to win no matter who is playing or who is injured. TLR doesn't make excuses when they lose. I'm not so sure the same can be said Dusty.
  24. Firing the manager now won't do anything.
  25. Or you could be a Royals fan. Now THAT would suck You know what sucks? Living in Kansas and being a Cubs fan. The worst of both worlds. Atleast Kansas has a good college basketball team
