  1. 5 shutout innings for Russell so far in this series.
  2. The way Wakefield is throwing the Soriano at bat next inning has the potential to be pretty hilarious.
  3. Wow, Russell actually got through a 1st inning without giving up any runs.
  4. With Byrd on the DL, Colvin just may start. The options at that point would be Reed, Colvin and Campana and, hopefully, they'd go with Colvin. Or at least a platoon of Reed/Colvin (probably preferable, actually). Has it even been long enough yet where they can recall him? I know there is an injury exception to the minimum time before someone can be recalled but since Berg is technically replacing Byrd I don't think they would be able to use that.
  5. With Russel starting tonight and basically going with the entire bullpen for tonights game, and the offday tomorrow, an extra pitcher is more valuable today than a reserve bat that probably just sits on the bench. Id suspect come Tuesday Berg to go back down and a position player be added. The question is who the reserve bat will be. The only 2 on the 40 man roster not already on the team or hurt are Colvin and Perez. Bringing Colvin up now to sit on the bench defeats the stated purpose of having sent him down in the first place and Perez isn't much of a bat.
  6. With Byrd likely to go on the DL I wonder if they will bring back Colvin. He hasn't had much of a chance to work anything out yet in AAA and since I assume Johnson will take most of Byrd's stars in CF it is not like they can get him a ton of AB's. The only other position player on the 40 man roster that is not already on the active roster is Fernando Perez. That 40 man roster is very pitcher heavy. Possibly they can put Schlitter through waivers and bring up Snyder.
  7. I guess they were promised this a while back. Not sure all the details. I do remember with the last expansion the Wings and the Blue Jackets were supposed to end up in the Eastern Conference after some time, but do not remember how it was going to happen. I dont want to sound like a snob Wings fan, but if they do move to the Eastern Conference the Western Conference is going to get almost no coverage on Versus except for some Hawks games. Nashville to the Southeast would make the most sense based on location.
  8. Whatever it is get some of it to Koyie Hill right away.
  9. Please tell us all more!
  10. They should have just recalled Wells since is was going to start in Iowa anyway. I really don't see the difference between a final rehab start in Iowa and just coming up and making the start for the big league team. Obviously you couldn't expect him to be as sharp as normal or to go deep in the game but it can't be much worse that what they are going to throw out there tonight as an alternative and plus it would avoid decimating the bullpen.
  11. Just have Dewitt safety squeeze him in to avoid the otherwise inevitable pop up.
  12. Soriano seems to get worse defensively every game.
  13. This is also Coleman's next start, so this will line up for perhaps Wells replacing Coleman instead of Davis? Depending on how the junkballer extraordinaire fares tonight? It's very possible it'll be Coleman down instead of Davis. I believe if we send Davis down, he'll have to pass through waivers and might be able to flat out refuse the assignment. We can send Coleman up and down at will, however, and production probably won't be all that different between the two. Coleman really hasn't pitched remotely well enough to justify keeping a rotation spot when Wells comes back.
  14. I thought the Cubs had only 39 players currently on their 40 man roster.
  15. And if he pitches well, he can replace Coleman in the rotation when the first of Wells/Cashner comes back. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to keep him around as the 7th bullpen arm in case we need a spot start here or there and then don't need to either force everyone to watch another Russell start or make a roster move to bring up Coleman to get shelled.
  16. Wellemeyer is a player who Cubs and Cardinals fans can despise with equal passion. What a loser. I'm not sure which I'll remember more fondly -- his arrival with the Cardinals in 2007 when they were starting every awful pitcher in the discard pile (Mike Maroth, Kip Wells, Brad Thompson, Randy Keisler, Joel Pineiro) or his postgame interviews in 2009 when he would regularly give up 10 or 11 hits then blame it on BABIP. http://www.thefightins.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/WelleTo01.jpg I really see no reason as a Cubs fan to despise him with any passion.
  17. Go ahead and steal here - worst case you have Castro leading off next inning.
