  1. Hill with a stolen base? This is really has been an odd game.
  2. That stat says all anyone needs to know about the Cubs 2011 season.
  3. What's the point ?? Lopez got him twice, eh? I guess he made the right call in retrospect but he has three lefties in the bullpen so it seems dangerous to roll the dice there with Howard and Ibanez coming up.
  4. Quade should be bringing Russell in here to face Howard IMO.
  5. what was the injury? any word? Just looked like heat exhaustion or dehydration. They made him work really hard in a 30 pitch 3rd innning and he never seemed to look right after that. Wait, the Chicago Cubs offense made another pitcher - a good pitcher at that - work hard? It was mostly Fukudome and Ramirez.

  7. So they show Quade after the Rollins homerun and he is standing there in the dugout with his arms crossed,CHEWING ON A TOOTHPICK!!! Quick someone take a dump in his normal spot and get him out of here.
  8. How can there not be something fundamentally wrong with a system that allows the commissioner to suppress valid signings at his own whim, therefore delaying the player receiving the money and the team from starting to develop the player by sending him to a minor league team? Going overslot is either allowed by the rules or not, and if it is allowed I don't understand how no one challenges the fact that MLB doesn't allow two willing parties to announce an agreement to terms.
  9. Tragedy alerted, we have Ortiz on the job: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110717&content_id=21915778&notebook_id=21915782&vkey=notebook_chc&c_id=chc Seriously, why is this guy on the active roster instead of Carpenter?
  10. let's hope not! i want the #1 pick. Don't worry, Lee and Halladay are coming to town.
  11. I would comment about this but I haven't been in the batter box against someone who can bring it so my opinion would therefore not be of any value.
  12. I'll bet 100 million dollars he will not be the Astros GM in 2012 according to wikipedia he's from houston. that's the only reason they'd have any shot, i think. that being said, he's gotta be a hot commodity and if he wants to move on from tampa, one would think there are higher-profile positions that will be open. not to mention that the astros are a bad team with a moribund farm system. Freidman has a lot of loyalty to Silverman and Sternberg and I would be shocked if he left the organization. The only way I see him considering it is if Sternberg confides to him that he is going to make a run at buying the Mets and gives his blessing for him to pursue another job since he might be selling the team anyway.
  13. I am sure a bunch of sarcastic posts are coming soon (trading Maddux for Jose Izturis!!) but the Byrd signing was a pretty good move in and of itself. Clearly the overall results of the teams the last couple years had made Byrd's performance pretty irrelevant but he has been a very good bargain for the contract he signed. Now trade Byrd at the deadline for value and then do the right thing and give notice at the end of the season out of shame for the mess you have created.
  14. Duh! I would be shocked if Hendry and Quade are here next year. and Ryno is gonna be our next manager. Book it! I would be surprised if a new GM comes in and the first thing he does to put his imprint on the team is hire Ryne Sandberg as manager.
  15. Is it shocking news that the D-Backs want to "look at" Wood? He is low paid and good. Doesn't mean they will be willing to give up nearly enough to justify the Cubs asking him to waive the NTC.
  16. I don't give a flying [expletive] what a player's history is. If they come in and completely [expletive] up then that's when people SHOULD boo. If you boo for a non-white guy then affirmative action requires you equally boo a white guy later in the game.
  17. It could be worse, this kind of inning could have happened to the Cubs against the Marlins in the 2003 NLCS.
  18. I think you have to either sell Marmol or DL him at this point. Has to be DL. Trading him now is going to be at his least valuable, easily. DL him, hope he can come back strong to finish the year and move him in the offseason. I say put him in the rotation and make Rodrigo Lopez the closer just to really shake things up.
  19. And now Florida is an 88% predicted winner. Has to be one of the biggest swings of the season. Or pretty much equal with any time a team had a 3 run lead or greater going into the ninth and then gave up the lead.
