Four Chicago Cubs Legends being honored by the Chicago Park District Hall of Famers Ernie Banks, Billy Williams and Ryne Sandberg, along with fan favorite Ron Santo, will be honored by having a baseball field dedicated in their honor as part of the Cubs Care Legends Fields at Hamlin Park. WHEN: Saturday, May 13, 2006, 9:00 a.m. WHERE: Hamlin Park - Baseball Fields 3035 N. Hoyne (on Damen between Wellington and Barry) Chicago, IL WHO: Banks, Williams, Sandberg and Santo will be in attendance. Chicago Cubs President and CEO Andy MacPhail will join Chicago Park District General Superintendent Tim Mitchell, Alderman Ted Matlak of the 32nd Ward and Sean Delanty of the Hamlin Park Baseball Association in honoring these legends. Children from the Hamlin Park Baseball Association will participate in the ceremonies. WHY: Cubs Care, the charitable beneficiary of the Chicago Cubs and a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, has granted $250,000 to the Chicago Park District for renovation and improvements to the four baseball fields at Hamlin Park. The complex to be named "Cubs Care Legends Fields" will feature four baseball fields with backstops, fencing, dugouts and a scoreboard reminiscent of the famous Wrigley Field Marquee. Since 1991, Cubs Care has granted over $10 million dollars to support youth sports, children with special needs, victims of domestic violence in Chicago. Cubs Care also supports charitable organizations in the Lakeview community.
