Pie is not allowed to bat anymore apparently, but Fontenot and his sub .600 OPS since the break gets to. Hell I would have been happy with Floyd Pie Ward in the OF if it means DeRo is at 2nd and not Fontenot. Yeah, I think Fontenot has long passed his useful period. But since he was hot 2 months ago, Lou is overlooking the fact that he has been awful for well over a month. Players do slump. Surprising, I know.

My local Independent League team (Joliet Jackhammers) could probably use him. As a bullpen catcher.

Cain has a career 4.85 ERA v. the Cubs in 26 innings. I'm not sure how that qualifies as "stifling." Zito hasnt been good this year... correct... But the Cubs are one of the few teams he's had a solid start against. 7 innings... Tied with 6 other starts for his second longest outing. He also just had his best outing of the second half against the 4th best offense in the NL, the Marlins... Should I mention he's a lefty facing the Cubs?

He had that one game-tying RBI... but I forgot against who.... Think it was against the Cards.
