  1. bump. please observe the game instead of using the boxscore to assess how Glendon Rusch has pitched. Yeah, 10 hits and 5 runs in 3+ innings certainly isn't Glendon's fault. I want results! what part about "please observe the game instead of using the boxscore to assess how Glendon Rusch has pitched" did you not understand?
  2. have we gotten that little punk out all year?
  3. bump. please observe the game instead of using the boxscore to assess how Glendon Rusch has pitched.
  4. not a good pitch by Rusch, but for those p'ing and moaning about him, the Astros have hit in incredibly good luck tonight. 3 hard hit balls, 5 runs for them. in the mean time, the Cubs have hit about 7 or 8 hard and only have three to show for it.
  5. not the time to hang one Glendon. more week hitters killing us.
  6. where was that 2-1 pitch to Ensberg...I mean besides right down the middle.
  7. this lucky v. unlucky hitting thing is disturbing.
  8. Same with us. well that's if you only count the liner by Barrett. I guess we won't count the line drive homerun by Walker, the smoked line drive to left center by Nomar, and the knuckling liner to center by Aramis. but you're right, besides those three the Cubs only hit one ball hard in the first inning.
  9. neither of which will be nearly as bad as the ball-strike calls of Mr. Bruce Froemming.
  10. what, you guys don't like the refusal to come inside at all, even for effect, late in a tight ballgame? your tired of seeing 0-2 fastballs right down the middle sailing over the fence? you mean you're fed up with pitchers getting ahead, then missing badly until the count is 3-2? are you saying the higher than high fastball has become more predictable than the tides? you haven't had enough of pitchers and other weak hitters getting huge hits against the Cubs because they see too many fastballs? I disagree with the assessment of lack of philosophy. I think Larry has some very bad philosophies, especially when it comes to pitch sequences. Michael Barrett catches alot of heat for pitches that Larry Rothschild calls.
  11. I see a couple people suggesting expanding into NY. a couple years ago on a different board (with many of the same people as are here now), when all the talk was of contracting two teams (in large part justified because of revenue disparity), I suggested the teams should be moved to NY. not saying the same people are commenting here, but everyone poopoo'd the idea back then.
  12. my (expletive deleted) brother has backed out on me for tomorrow's game leaving me with an unused $45 ticket. I certainly don't expect to get my money back, but would like to recoup something. I will also consider a trade for a parking space if any Wrigleyville residents see this. anyone iterested in seeing a dreadful ballclub play a home game against another dreadful ballclub on a tuesday afternoon? Sect. 205, Row 1...heck, I'll even give you the aisle seat if you take it off my hands.
  13. For the love of CHRIST. Our lack of fundamentals lost that game, not covering first, not catching the ball. Not the frigging umps. All pitchers were getting some calls and not getting others. first, see the first half of the first sentance I wrote. for that matter, see my rants throughout the thread about the second inning and the Cubs terrible hitting approach, which went directly against Baker's instructions for the game. as far as I know, there can be more than one intervening cause in any outcome. second, that's very noble of you, but you're wrong. aside from a couple corner calls Rusch got, identify one generous strike the Cubs pitchers got tonight. I can name you no fewer than eight very questionable strikes the Phils got, almost all of them in very key situations of the ballgame. and as I challenged you to do before, get back to me when a Cubs batter has a borderline pitch called a ball. fact is, the Walker AB in the middle of our big two run rally was simply taken away by DeMuth with two called strikes that were not strikes, and weren't called strikes on any other batter besides Lawton (with two on and two out) and Burnitz (with one out, the go ahead run on first). the same pitch was called a ball instead of strike three on Lofton right before he moved Rollins to third. fact is, if Walker draws the walk, like he earned, the Cubs go ahead that inning. in one sense I admire you for trying to be such a stand up guy, in another I pity you for your inability to observe.
  14. yet another game where the Cubs made too many mistakes to win, but also another game in which the umpiring had just as much to do with the outcome as the opposition. you know the difference between the ninth inning tonight and Todd Hollandsworth AB in the ninth at Wrigley the other day? the opposition doesn't need to take a hack at close pitches because they're never called a strikes. another instance is last night. I didn't even think of it at the time because Dempster was melting down, but upon seeing the replays, the 3-2 to Abreu and the 3-2 to Burrell were both called strikes all night. to be honest, when I saw DeMuth was umping first last night (brought to my attention when he blew two calls agains the Cubs) I didn't think we stood much of a chance tonight. oh, to only have to beat one team a night instead of two.
  15. I will admit that I didn't get a chance to watch the game until the 7th. I didn't know that the ump was calling low and away the whole game. he hasn't. he's been calling it selectively, ie strike three to Lawton last inning.
  16. I meant the 0-1 and 1-1. all's well that ends well, but I have to iterate that it sucks having to overcome two teams every game.
  17. 0-1 and 0-2 to Abreu = strike three to Lawton
  18. That's the first thing I've ever agreed with you posting. Umpires have not made us suck this year. At all. One bit. nice to get a fluke hit by Hollandsworth to tie the game, but I have to bring this back up. how can anyone legitimately say this after Todd Walker's AB last inning. that pitch has been called a strike exactly three times tonight. in the other inning we had a scoring opportunity to put Lawton in a hole, and twice to Walker there. not only were they not a strikes, that pitch was not called a strike all night unless DeMuth deicdes to selectively call it in a huge spot against the Cubs. absolutely ridiculous that we continually have to overcome two teams to win a ballgame.
  19. just don't learn their lessons, do they
  20. this team has an amazing propensity to swing at balls and look at strikes. Burnitz is sucking rocks lately (game winning hit aside)
  21. one thing about this bad offensive stretch, many many atem balls. Burnitz, Lee and Hairston with first pitch hacks this inning. this is the players folks, not Dusty.
  22. Yeah, but Glendon's been stretched out this season and can be called upon at any time for long relief duty. I could see Dusty using him for 3 innings if he keeps this up. hopefully, but there have been many many times where Dusty could have used either Rusch or Mitre for a long stretch, but has failed to do so, choosing instead to wear out the pen. the only way Glendon goes three is if the Cubs offense fails to get down to his slot in the batting order. so there's a strong possiblity Glendon goes three tonight.
  23. yowzers. way to go Glendon. put it in the scouting report. DeMuth likes calling the outside corners on lefty lefty matchups.
  24. Me too. I dont know who we'll put in. Mitre hasnt been good as a long reliever. Rusch probably can go up to the 7th; maybe the 8th if he's dealing. yes, he can, but aside from Rich Hill in Milwaukee, I don't think Dusty has let a reliever go more than two innings the entire year. yet another aspect of Dusty's complete inability to manage a pitching staff.
