  1. not a huge fan of Pierre. wouldn't want to see him extended. but I have to wonder how many weeks in a row someone is going to say "his speed didn't necessarily cause that error." I think I've seen that or something like it about 5-6 times this year already. at what point does it become apparent that his speed does lead to alot of times on base because of errors? I think if another batter hits that grounder today, Miles plays that ball alot differently and gets the easy out at first. instead, he came in to get it because of Pierre's speed, picked out a bad hop to play the ball, and it got through.
  2. Pot meet TLR. No kidding, that's just what I was thinking. TLR is one of the biggest crybabies in the league. I hope he and Boras go bankrupt someday. cry about other teams signaling from the scoreboard...when his own team got busted for it a couple years back cry about (and start a beanball war over) signaling pitches by the runner at second base...when his own team does it more that anyone else, and considers sign stealing a matter of pride cry about every close call on the diamond....when his team gets more calls than anyone but what I don't get is this. he argues more than any manager in baseball, including balls and strikes from the dugout. nearly everyone of his players, including the crappy ones, complain after every called strike...yet he and his team keeps getting close calls on the bases and the benefit of the calls on the corners of the strikezone. why didn't it work that way for Moises Alou when he wore a big red C?
  3. I say keep the whining up. helps drown out the game updates, which are more difficult to take than the whining.
  4. I'm whining. I'm down anyway because of the injuries, Cubs are playing like crap, all the bounces are going the Cards way, as are all the calls. it's whinable material.
  5. from what I know of the game, Rusch walked Pujols in the first. not a bad idea. the second walk is bad, 2 outs, but I didn't see it. the third was a strikeout, not a walk. the fourth is tough to blame him. alot of guys would lose composure if a bad call continues the inning, then Pip gets a bloop hit, and Poo standing in the on deck. haven't been able to watch since. don't know what happened with Williamson.
  6. Why doesnt Dusty just go get a white flag and start waving it from the dugout steps? and yet yesterday he wastes an appearance by Williamson to keep the game a 6 run deficit with three outs to go.
  7. Last year Rolen was ran over by Choi and was done for the year. The curse thing gets old. Sure it gets old but, how many starts did Carpenter and Mulder miss last season? Exactly the point. And how many starts did Wood and Prior miss last season? And the Cubs, once again, foolishly thought those two could be counted on. Sorry I guess I forgot about project 3: Wade Miller when you come up with a idea for suitable replacement pitchers and finding a taker for Kerry Wood and his salary, give Hendry a call, ok?
  8. like I said earlier, the pitches other teams take for ball 4 are called a strike when Cubs hitters are in the batter's box. no possible way that 3-2 to JRod is called a ball if a Cubs hitter is up.
  9. You could be correct. Last night it looked like everybody was feeling sorry for themself, including Len and Bob. However, good teams overcome injuries. This is why many of us wanted another big bat either in the outfield or on the bench. Instead we got Jaque and bench full of utility players. Nevertheless, They need to buck up and play good smart baseball. If the cubs fall apart I will blame Dusty and not injuries. When these things happen, and they do to all teams, it is the manager's job to get the team going. Double swithcing Walker in the 6th for Neifi isn't going to get it done. Agree, CubsinNY. Somebody needs to take a tough loving apprach to these guys, and forced them to forget about Lee for the next 2 months, and play some dang baseball. The Cards COMPENSATED for losing Scott Rolen last year, and they went to the NLCS. So it CAN be done. This team needs to stop feeling sorry for themselves. if a tongue lashing was coming, it should have been last night. that was a game where they just didn't do anything well. that's when you give the "not good enough" speech. today, if nothing changes quickly, is a game where the "inexplicable" forces are against you. bad calls and bloop hits will determine the outcome of this one.
  10. Last year Rolen was ran over by Choi and was done for the year. The curse thing gets old. and then Nunez has a 900+ ops for two and a half months. I don't believe in a curse either, but there really has to be some other force at work here.
  11. so I'm taking care of some odd jobs around the house and have only been able to catch a couple of plays up until now. they are - bases loaded hard hit groundball backhanded by Rolen, blown call at first base - 3-2 pitche to J-Rod right down the middle of the plate, called a ball. you know it's frustrating watching the Cubs always swinging at every three ball pitch and refusing to take a walk. but guess what guys...if the batter is wearing a big red C, that's strike three, I guaranty.
  12. right there with you Goony. something about the tequila buzz/drunk. it's like being drunk and on hallucinagens and speed all at once. instant personality.
  13. I got a chuckle out of it...until I realized that a Card fan posted it. you go to hell Tarp!
  14. not marquis players, but Grudz and Agone missing time because of beanballs on the hand/wrist (and Agone's being called a foul ball no less).
  15. I think you should quit assuming I don't know these things. I am well aware that Neifi started because Ramirez was hurt. That doesn't take away from the fact that he still started - how do you know Neifi wouldn't have started at 2B instead of Hairston if Ramirez was healthy? But yet...your posts insinuate that you "know" that Neife would have started over Hairston if Ramirez was healthy. When you don't. exactly the point of my prodding. he seems to doing everything he can to say that Dusty has been going out of his way to get Neifi playing time, when it seems to me Neifi is being used rather wisely thus far. a spot start at second, a spot start at short, two fill in starts at third and some replacement time in injury situations/blowouts. that's essentially the definition of how a utility infielder is supposed to be used.
  16. you mean the game in which the Cubs back up first baseman, John Mabry, had already left the game at the time of Lee's injury?
  17. There's no reason to believe this won't be the case. Dusty shows an obvious preference for Neifi, so it seems likely that he will start at 2B in any games Walker either doesn't play or starts at 1B. 2006 starts at 2b Player starts Walker 10 Hairston 3 Perez 1 Seems perfectly obvious to me. guess who started at third base during those games? exactly. better luck next time. during which games? the two games against the Reds that Aram missed because of a sore butt? you are correct, the other third base replacement, left handed hitting John Mabry, did not get the start in those games against lefties Claussen and Milton.
  18. there's been alot of chitty chat since the collission about how wrist injuries can be complicated and linger on and on. I think we need to distinguish between the wrist injuries those discussions seemed to be about and Lee's wrist injury. in a way, we are fortunate because this is "only" a bone break. those type of complications which everyone fears seem to occur more when there are problems with the ligaments. I'm not a doctor, but this injury is not that complicated, and I'm confident Lee will come back from this just fine, it's only a matter of when.
  19. while there is always a danger, Cey's career was all but done anyway.
  20. A lot of people saying Neifi would get more playing time is if Cedeno struggled, even for a short period of time. That has yet to happen, so obviously Cedeno is going to remain the starter while he's having success. Even Dusty isn't dumb enough to sit someone hitting as well as Ronny is right now. I hate Dusty. he's an idiot and plays crappy players when he doesn't have to way too much. with that said, many said all winter that Neifi would get all the SS at the first sign of Cedeno struggles, then Cedeno struggled all spring. come openning day, Cedeno was the starting shortstop, so his point is well taken. fwiw, cedeno was pretty much guaranteed the starting job going into spring training. if he struggled during the year like he did during the spring, neifi would probably be starting by now. If I recall correctly, Bobby Hill was "pretty much guaranteed" the starting second base job and managed to lose it before the season started, so Baker should at least get credit for giving Cedeno the shot.... IIRC Hill got sick at the end of spring training and that is why he was not the starting second baseman IIRC, he was sucking so bad he was no longer starting ST games before he got sick. he'd already lost the starting job.

  22. is this guy K-Town's long lost twin brother? if you want to come here and discuss baseball on a rational level, fine. if you want to come and be a complete Homer, please go somewhere else. irrationality on this website is reserved for Cubs fans.
  23. The problem there is that Eyechart can only play 1B. And he hits like a pitcher. The obvious benefit to it would be that he's pretty strong defensively. I think there are better options out there. Gload, Wilson, Clark, Choi, Graffanino... the present scenerio has Malphabet's production compared to Neifi and/or Hairston. chances are he'll hit better than either one of those two, and provide the defense we have come to rely on at first. he also draws alot of walks. trading for him is not something I advocate, but it would be an improvement over the situation the Cubs are facing.
  24. Lidge's ERA+ was 181 last year; Dempster's was 136. Not exactly a fantasy when you, uh, you statistics. That includes Dempster's subpar time as a starter. As a reliever last year: Lidge: 3.12 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 12.45 K/9, .226 BAA, 3.00 K/BB Dempster: 1.85 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 8.18 K/9, .218 BAA, 1.96 K/BB Lidge was better, but it's not a landslide. and since we are talking about closing, perhaps the most important statistic of all losses by team in games where the pitcher came in in a save situation Dempster: 0 Lidge: more than 0
  25. fine. the point is, don't shift the argument and then tell me I am wrong. by your own admissions about the rest of the two teams, it's pretty clear the 2006 Cubs, if health and producing like they are capable of, are far better than the 2005 Astros.
