  1. Man if Hendry could somehow turn Hawkins into Dunn that would be great. I think Williams would be a good canidate for Cin as would Mitre.
  2. It's his way of saying your post has no merit. It is quite condescending and uncalled for, but lots of people do it, so it makes it ok. [beating dead horse] Wins/losses are a team stat but that does not mean they are unimportant when discussing a pitcher. They are just another piece of evidence used to make a judgment. By the same token ERA is not the only important stat for judging the value of a pitcher. The Cubs are now 8 games over .500 when Maddux pitches (over the last 1.5 years)[/beating dead horse]
  3. I don't want Patterson back (I think one way or another he is gone, anyways) That is pretty pathetic. What if Corey goes down to AAA and learns how to lay off the head high fast ball and develops some plate discipline? You still don't want him? Oh wait, I know, he is too stuborn or too stupid to learn anything.
  4. That's a good point Tim, and I think an accurate observation as well. High walk/High K guys are mistake hitters, in general. I also would like to clarify my last post. I would trade Pie for Dunn, but I wouldn't offer any other top level prospects in the package.
  5. IMO, it is absolutly foolish to not trade Pie if you can get a guy like Dunn. I cannot believe how much people overvalue prospects. Pie is an AA outfieilder with 1/2 of a great year in pro ball. A lot can happen between now and then (when he makes it to the majors). Depending on who else would be included I would trade Pie for Dunn any day.
  6. "Send him to Detriot" Five cyber dollars to whomever gets the movie this quote was from.
  7. Didn't Jerome Walton have two HRs in his first game? IIRC he was also ROY that year.
  8. 7/9/05 Morgan and McCarver two peas in a pod. This just said during the Bos-Bal game: On base percentage is not important unless you can run. Oh my Len.
  9. Vance, Why not wait until 2008 then it will be a full one hundred years? just kidding. I think it is a good idea in genreal. I think that was the plan in 2003, then the unexpected happened. However, I think this team can be good enough right now to compete. I think Dusty has completely mis-managed this team. Who knows what would have happend if Dempster was the closer at the beginining of the year. Or if Dusty wouldn't have handed Hollandsworth the starting job before ST even started. Or if Dusy would have actually used Hairston this year. Remember when Walker went down Neffi was the 2nd baseman until Nomar went down. We will never know, sadly.
  10. OBP? The problem with this team has never been pitching, it's exactly what most of us thought it would be. See the signature, Raisin wrote that in Jan or Feb.
  11. I think it has a lot to do with the same reasons why Morgan doesn't particularly think Sandberg should be in the HOF. MLB is the ultimate club, even more so than Augusta National CC. They like to keep it that way. That's why you see re-tread managers over and over.
  12. If and when Baker gets fired he will land on his feet. To quote Michael Lewis said in Moneyball,"there really is no level of incompetence that won't be tolerated." He'll get a gig on ESPN's BBTN for a year and then go back to managing, probably for an organization like the Reds or the Marlins.
  13. I lost all faith in the current regime when Cedeno was called up to not play. I see no reason why Hendry/Baker would treat Murton and Greenberg any differently. My thoughts exactly
  14. Cedeno, Greenburg, and Murton are up. But will they play consistent enough to succeed?
  15. Go get em Corey. Good luck to Doobie too. I think regular playing time without having to look over his shoulder would have done wonders for Dubios. Oh well...
  16. If the Cubs do trade maddux they will likely pick up most of the check and not get much in return.
  17. Naw, the Yankees are smart. They've called up a rookie to play CF and one to play 2nd base b/c the proven vet isn't getting it done. Go figure, what will they think of next.
  18. No, he's just trying to take up for oldcubsfan in the ridiculus argument department. The guy loves to play the devil's advocate. The best thing to do is ignore his posts.
  19. That is what that guy wrote. And you wrote Don't pretend you were not misrepresenting what this person wrote.
  20. Are you ####ING KIDDING ME??? MACIAS? Sweet lord. GOD. He is such an idiot. WHY IN THE HELL is Macias playing over Hairston, and WHY IN THE HELL is Neifi playing over cedeno. GOOD LORD. I think it is pretty clear that Dusty does not like Hairston. Maybe his dad did something to Baker. I cannot understand it at all.
  21. Why do you intentionally misrepresent the point other people make?
  22. Fantasy picks Manager: Larry Deirker Pitching Coach: Hershiser Batting Coach: The guy at West Tenn Bench Coach: Me, hey it is a fantasy and I don't know what a bench coach does exactly, so I'm guessing I'm qualified. 1st base: Don't care 3rd base: Not Wendel Kimm New GM: Goony's evil twin, he hates to spend the Trib's money and will demand production for dollars.
