  1. Will if you go in the past Chicago used to be a Sox town. The Cubs will still be getting more pub and have more fans next season but this run will help the sox greatly. Especially if they make another run and the Cubs falter. One thing the Cubs dont have is the yankees history of success to fall back on when they are bad. When was Chicago a Sox town? Not in my life time and I'm 36.
  2. For a while back in the mid to late 80s NY was a Met town. The Mets were good they Yankees weren't. I suspect that could happen in Chicago. But Chicago will always be a Cub town just as NY will always be a Yankee town.
  3. No kidding. Man if Angel could get and stay healthy that would open up a world of opportunity for the Cubs. They could trade him for a big bat difference maker. They could keep him and trade Wood/Z/Prior for significant talent. They could keep everybody and score 2 runs a game and still win more then they would lose. Oh boy, the possiblitiies. Stay healthy young man. If Angel were healthy enough to factor in the Cubs plans, he does open up a world of possibilities. I wouldn't trade him or Prior/Zambrano/Wood. But if I felt Guz was healthy, you could trade Williams, pencil Guz into the rotation and still have Hill as a back-up if needed. Also, a roster decision will have to be made on Mitre as well this spring. Probably not the right forum to discuss this but... Hill, Mitre, Williams, Welly, Wurtz, Pinto, Aardsma or any other young pitcher (by themself) will not get the Cubs what they need. You have to trade talent to get talent. If Guzman can be parleyed into Adam Dunn or Carlos Beltran or any young difference maker outfileder I trade him. But as we know, he has to show he is healthy and he has to show he has the stuff in "the show". Until then we can dream.

  5. I disagree. With the OBP and SLG I think the outfield might be slighlty worse than 03 but not to the extent to which you seem to think. However, I think it would be hard to compare overall teams based on OF production alone.
  6. Those are my thoughts too. The only thing not taken into account would be sac flies or bunts. We all know Adam Dunn Sox b/c he only had one sac fly this year.
  7. BK wrote a nice piece for NSBB looking at small ball vs big ball (no pun intended) a while back. There might be some info in there.
  8. Juan Pierre had a dishonorable mention. Can we quit with the "he brings good defense" comments? No he doesn't.
  9. Please. Lighten up. I think he was trying to make a joke.
  10. Not only that but the theory has to be implimented with procedural fidelity. Boston certianly didn't do that. However, I think if an organization is going to do it they have to go all the way. That means from low A to the bigs. Players have to be conditioned to an operating system. The conditioning process is crucial. If the organization does not do that then the players may sabotage the thing. An organization would also have to cultivate the "right" type of free agents as well. Nevertheless, the three hardest things to move are: A cemetary The educational establishment a baseball organization
  11. Yeah, it's right up there with letting a 6'9" lefty with crap tons of talent go rule V. . . . BUT...to be fair, neither Sisco nor Jenks (both have SERIOUS maturity issues, which wouldn't surprise me if it popos it's uglyhead again) have SUSTAIN success in the majors. And if the Sox win the series, Jenks might have an overload, and destroy his career. This "KID" doesn't have a LONG career in baseball. Everybody loves his FB, but he is STUPID, plain and simple. Think of him as a HEAVIER Kyle Farnsworth, their partying will destroy their careers. I, for one, don't miss Sisco. Since when did you administer the WISC-R or Stanford Benit to either Farns or this kid? Even so, since when is being a Rhode's Scholar a prerequisit to being a good baseball player? I really wish you would refrain from such ridiciluous character assisinations.
  12. and was helped by the ridiculus offense that is the yankee hitters.
  13. It was a very well written story. I think every Cub fan this side of ZZ Thorn would be happy if Dusty departed. Odds on happening 1:2007 (year Dusty will leave after he signs his extension). Odds on happening if Depo leaves 1:40 (roughly the number of qualified applicants). I'm thinking Orel Hershiser will be getting the job.
  14. Marquis must be a real piece of work. He couldn't even get along with Mazzone.
  15. Not even if he brought bat girl with him could he take spidy.
  16. Yes Let's end the discussion shall we?
  17. It is all a facade. They are trophy tail. He takes them out, takes them home, and goes home to Mr. Slave like Mr. Garrison. Batman is into leather and masochism. Spidy kicks his but.
  18. Please, somebody tell why Furcal is an upgrade over Nomar or Cedeno given who much he will cost?
  19. Major overhaul -TLR will go to "the hair club for men" and come back with a pompadore causing all mullett wearing Card fans to change their hair style. -Duncan and LaRussa will hold a "commentment" serimony with their pet Poodles serving as best man and brides made. -Jimmy Edmonds will also come out of the closet and profess his love for Big Z. He will request a trade to the Cubs but it will be rejected, at which time he will be delt to the SF Giants for Marquis Grissim. -Rick Ankeil will come out of nowhere replacing Walker and win the batting title. -The Cards will sign the kid who pitched for the Cubs in that stupid movie and he will win 20 games.
  20. Is it possible that the light has come on for Hendry regarding OBP? If we're throwing around the #'s, surely someone, somewhere, has called them to his attention. Please God, let this be the case. It's weird, I read the exact same column and came away with the exact opposite impression. I take that to mean it was injuries and bad luck. In context, Hendry is responding to a comparison of the seasons between the Cubs and the Sox. I think that informs a bit as to what he's talking about. He's also saying that the Sox success won't make him do anything different that what he's already doing. In other words, the cubs would be making the same sort of moves or changes regardless of the success of the White Sox. Maybe so Vance, but he goes on to say... To me that means no philosophical changes b/c it was bad fortune. Damn that fortune.

  22. Spiderman in a romp. The guy has superpowers. Batman has a crappy utility belt and some gadgets. Even if Batman had his slave boy gay lover with him (Robin) Spidy would wipe the floor with the ambiguously gay duo.
  23. I'll go first. White Sox in 5. Then we will all be grossly sick for the next 4 months. JR may just up and die.
