  1. I agree wholeheartedly with the last sentence above. I'll never get the desire for people, Cubs fans no less, not to get behind him 100 percent. He doesn't get on in the 10th, we don't win. Period. Sure, obsess over his imperfections, but he's had a great season, and any notion to "bench" Theriot is absurd. I can take or leave Cedeno, but he sure strikes me as a dumb player most of the time. Theriot has worked his butt off to maximize his talent and had a fine year. I, too, don't understand why so many posters are against him. I'm not "aganst" him, but I want the Cubs to upgrade SS if possible. Cedeno isn't that upgrade, but Theriot's age, sub-Neifi/Pierre levels of power, terrible defense and horrible baserunning meas he should be the backup in 2009 for, ideally, whoever the Cubs find as their new starting SS. It is hyperbole like this that leads to these long argumentative threads. That's one the least hyperbolic things written in this thread in the last few pages.
  2. Zambrano has been one of the best road pitchers in the league over the last few years...This rotation makes the most sense. I've seen some people who think the Cubs should go with a 3 man rotation, but in doing so, Dempster would have to come back on short rest for game 4 on the road. I have confidence in Lilly to do a good job, and if necessary, come back with a rested Dempster in game 5 at Wrigley. I predict a Cubs sweep unless they play the Phillies in round one. Then it will go 4. Cole Hamels generally treats the Cubs like play things. A three man rotation might do it in round one.
  3. I don't want to derail this thread, but Aramis is the shiznet. I wish I could find Barry Rozner and the dude from the Trib and have a little Royal Rumble.
  4. Stupid Cubs can't even lose when they're supposed to.
  5. If he didn't pump 10 times he might have had him by the way, in looking at his minor league stats this Murphy will be probably be not as special as Sutt thinks. Suttcliffe is probably the worst announcer this side of Joe Morgan. He talks too much and says almost nothing at the same time. That's a rare combination. Everybody is his "good buddy" and he'll tell you what.
  6. Is that a word? Howry'd It's a catchall.
  7. Also because he's significantly significantly better defensively True, I saw him make a barehanded catch once and I climaxed. It was the greatest play of the century, well scratch that, it's only second behind Jeter's dive into the stands. I suppose if you want to ignore every defensive metric in existence you could persuasively argue that Ramirez is better than Wright defensively. Is he "significantly significantly" better? I mean, I can see how he is "significantly" better.... David Wright has been overrated defensively since he was in the minors.
  8. I was just going to mention that. USSocer would be proud.
  9. not being a complete tool on NSBB ...says the guy with 17,000 posts, 100 or less of which are actually about the Cubs. was that supposed to be an insult of some sort? Don't go a changin' either.
  10. I spent the better parts of late April through the end of the school year at Lake Michigan sophomore, junior, and senior year. Basically, as soon as I got a car. The only thing that kept me from getting into serious trouble was baseball games scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I use to love the double header on Tuesday and then Humpday at the beach.
  11. They're seriously going to throw Gallardo back into the rotation like that? Wow. No pressure kid. Yeah, that doesn't seem like a good idea. Or it could be a shot in the arm. He will have a fresh arm and is a damn fine pitcher.
  12. You can get that picture in a GIF or jpg on the internets.
  13. Who would you want to face in the second round? Either one. A best 3 out of 5 is a terrible crapshoot.
  14. Actually, I'd rather face the Mets in the first round of the playoffs. Cubs v Mets Phillies v. Dodgers
  15. I don't think I was too fired up about Lou, but I know I didn't want Girardi. Anyone who watched just a few Marlin games or listened to him talk shouldn't have wanted Girardi. He's a Neanderthal. Who gives a crap if he used to play for the Cubs. Same with Ryne Sandberg.
  16. It was not absolutely accurate. MLB has forced teams to play elsewhere in the past. These idiots thought it would have been perfectly fine to play 3 games after the regular season ends. They should have gotten out of there Friday, they have nobody but themselves (meaning players, coaches and owner) to blame. What Berkman said was accurate. The fact that MLB forced teams to play elsewhere in the past under similar circumstance is just more evidence of the accuracy of his statement. The extenuating circumstances of the Astros have nothing to do with what he said. Yes, they should have gotten out of Houston and taken their family with them and Yes MLB and their owner are to blame. Berkman et al. should be fuming at Drayton more than Bud. But more than that, they should be mad at themselves for their poor play. There's no crying in baseball.
  17. Berkman is just mad that the camera caught him wetting his pants and scurrying to the dugout because of the thunder. I love that he threw off his chain, too. And you didn't "play through" the storm, Lance. He's such a douche. What he said is absolutely accurate. If the Cubs were in the same position as the Astros many people who post here would be whining like a 6 year old. At the same time, a good team, a team of professionals can overcome those hardships, to an extent. Berkman and the rest of them now have a convenient excuse for why they played so poorly. If they would have won people would be talking about their moxy and pluck in, "doing it for their fans who've been through so much". Instead, they can blame their lameness on Bud and baseball. Screw them.
  18. Fielder had another error. He's literally got DH written all over him. It's in one of his tatoos.
  19. But they both speak Mexican. I had a knucklehead friend in college that thought that there were only two types of people in the entire world Americans and Mexicans.
  20. Nice. It's tough to discriminate between the concern troll and the fly-off-the-handle-when-anything-goes-bad troll.
  21. Like most people Zell wants to avoid taxes so he's trying to have his cake and screw the people (the govt.) at the same time.
  22. I don't really understand that. It seems to me that if the new owners are doing a rent-to-own agreement their initial cash outlay won't be that big. The problem is that at some point down the road (10 years?) they'll start to pay big. By that time the backloaded deals will be gone. It could hamper long term deals 5 years down the road though. I don't know, I could be really off base here.
  23. I'm sure he's talking about this offseason, none of those guys would have passed waivers. I don't understand all (or any) of the rules relating to waivers, trades, etc., so I guess I look pretty stupid asking the question, but it seemed an odd time to mention this sort of thing.
