  1. I like to think this is especially true now. Missing on Harper/Machado means a third year in a row of actually buying into the upside ceiling potential of a coredation that just lost worse than they did in 2017. That seems like a very un-Epstein thing to do. It doesn't much matter if PTR told him there is no money in the budget. Theo can't complain to the media about that so he has to do his best to put lipstick on the pig.
  2. I would be great to land Harper or Machado, but if they weren’t the highest bidder, so be it. The travisty is not pursuing the opportunity.
  3. It’s worse than negligence. They have the means and the opportunity, but not the motivation. Their little club of greedy bastards will scorn them if they do. So they’ll keep their millions in the name of fiduciary responsibility and the rubes will eat it.
  4. Whoever wrote this stole my thoughts. It’s about surprising salaries at the upper levels and making huge profits at the expense of labor and fan base. I’ll wait and see what happens, but the message is awful.
  5. PTR is back. I hope the Ricketts have enough money for Christmas presents.
  6. I don’t think anyone is going to touch Alabama this year.
  7. Why haven't the Cubs signed him yet? It's taking forever.
  8. I can't tell if you're making fun of me or being earnest... earnest. I haven't followed the minor leagues closely since 2015.
  9. N. Hoerner. I'm hearing great things about this kid. Is it too soon to get hyped?
  10. The majority of the Bleacher Nation twitter feed is people saying they'd pass on Harper. It drives me up the every loving wall. The Ricketts family are billionaires making 10s of millions of dollars quarterly. They own an entire block of buildings in the third largest city and are launching their own TV network. They can afford to Harper and pay the luxury tax for a few years.
  11. Merril Hoge didn't know who his wife was after one concussion. I'm not sure what point he trying to make, but he's the poster child for CTE. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/1994/12/07/hoges-career-now-only-a-memory/3a2159d9-4b6c-4a8f-bb71-97f96d6bdcb0/?utm_term=.ae1555f07add
  12. I'm rooting for a sweep. I don't care who does it. Let's get to the hot stove.
  13. I'm hoping for a sweep in the WS and I don't care who wins. I need some Bryce rumors. Let's get this show on the road.
  14. Depends how much input the Ricketts get. I could see them wanting a Girardi type if things go south.
  15. The Nats trade for Kyle Barraclough. -0.2 WAR last year.
  16. I watched the whole thing. It was great and I think Theo said all the right things. I don't think he was alluding to anyone in particular. Probably speaking about the team's mindset collectively and how they lost that killer edge. I really don't think the players got complacent. A bunch of players just struggled this year. Also, we need to remember this Cubs team won 95 games so we have to frame this disappointment in the right context. True, but some of those comments, like the noon game on getaway day in a long season, were pretty specific. No, there’s no shame in 95 wins, but [expletive] the bed against the Pirates, or those Brewers series took away any gleem of the season. There were some pretty worthless ABs in those games. The 2 out 3 ain’t bad attitude, that’s on the manager. But I think they just excepted to make the playoffs so they were looking to give guys time off. No one expected Yellich to turn into Ted Williams and the Brewers to actually be vaunted.
  17. Most of this makes sense apart from Bote in the OF. If he isn't playing 3B or 2B, his value is close to nil. Bote is the guy you want as the backup infield guy, though I don't know what he'd be like at SS. Prob not good. Bote's greatest value to the Cubs is as a trade chip. Unfortunately, there aren't many Jim Hendrys around anymore who would value him incorrectly.
  18. That was the first year in my Doc program at Ohio State. I remember sitting in some empty rib restaurant watching the game by myself. Good times.
  19. Riggleman is a good manager. He always gets stuck managing shitty teams.
  20. The Cubs will win tomorrow. The VB are going to tight.
  21. Mo says that is not the Cardinal way of doing things.
  22. Fun fact: The AL has 3 100 win teams and 3 100 loss teams. The NL has 0 100 win or loss teams.
  23. Big game today. Win or lose today, it's been a great regular season.
