    I think the broader point is that the Cubs have inside information that they don't appear to be using well. I don't have an opinion one way or the other on that. I think they are paying too much money on a system that can't help them command a pitch, but that's my bugaboo. No one is perfect, but Jed is not getting results and that should matter. I suspect it won't at least not this year.

    They are going through a bad spell. They are what their record shows them to be, but that doesn't mean they cannot play better. Going into the season they needed slugging, and they still need slugging. They need to sort the pen out, which should be a little easier once all the starters return. They have a lot of depth in the minors, they should be able to use it to improve the team. They are locked in on offense unless they DFA some guys and make others part time players who are now full time. That could be tough. I expect them to be a playoff contender.

    Cubs continue to play bad baseball. They have to do something about the sloppy play. Losing is one thing, giving up runs with sloppy play is another. I was not too fond of Ross's decisions, but they often didn't play sloppy baseball under him.

    MLB pipeline for King You know how they like wood bat excellence. Also, the Nico/Swanson profile is there, but so is the Javy Baez profile. A lot of chase. With the Cubs, some dude may blow up in the CWS. Certainly not an exciting 1st round pick.

    I think the Brewers have a really smart front office who knows what they are doing and there is no smoke or mirrors. They are surely overperforming, but I expect them to be good for the year.
