  1. Great reply. Seriously, why would someone base their opinion on a player based on what other people think of them?? Who cares if people gush over him because he hustles? Fact is, he has solidified the defense with his play at SS, filled in great in the leadoff spot, provides some energy to an otherwise lifeless team. He's not close to Arod, but he is a pretty good guy to root for and a guy that positions himself to win at every level he has played. He is replacable, but give me a break..
  2. I want to add my thanks to Outshined, Raisin and everyone else who contributed to the Minor League forum. For me personally, this forum keeps NSBB at a higher level than all other sites.
  3. I am surprised too. Why are we bowing down to Uecker? I blame the Cubs for asking him. This is a tribute to Harry and cub fans and if someone doesn't want to say Cubbies, don't allow them. However, this is a Comcast set up deal.
  4. No, we haven't received ours either. I'm thinking by 9-1.
  5. Yeah, if the Cubs have a good enough record to win the WC, then they win the division, making the WC irrelavent
  6. Soriano - LF Theriot - SS Lee Aram Murton / Jones / DeRosa - RF DeRosa / Floyd- LF Fontenot / Derosa 2B Kendall/ Soto
  7. Great post. Very well thought out and sensible. I'm all for getting Pena if he doesn't cost much in terms of players.
  8. Can you say "CANCER" No thanks. This years team is all about TEAM. It's pretty clear Lou doesn't like sideshows and feels, despite the #'s, it's counter productive to winning.
  9. With Pie proving not to be completely ready, like it or not, Jones has really helped this team in CF and with his stick. His July #'s are great. I'm certainly not against trading him, but we'll need a CF in exchange... OBP SLG AVG .423 .467 .356
  10. Any possibility that Wood could become a starter again this season or are they just trying to get him by with 1 inning every other day?
  11. Where's Jeff Kent when you need him
  12. Before "Buffy", this was the norm
  13. Really? If the Cubs are well into terrible territory at the deadline, I was thinking Hendry would become a total lame duck. How can he prove he should remain with the club under new ownership other than making the playoffs? I would think any new owner would look at our payroll, and if it's not a playoff team Hendry is gone moments after the ink dries. Maybe I'm dead wrong. One can only hope
  14. Lee's batting average is being propped up by an insanely high, and impossible to maintain, batting average on balls in play. Once some of these hits stop dropping in and start finding gloves, the average will go down. If he starts hitting more homeruns that will be less of an issue, because a homerun isn't in play. It's not a coincidence that Lee's highest batting average season was also his highest HR season. What once may have been a flyout is now a hit. That's not 100% accurate as early on, many of his flyballs were off the wall doubles. In the past, those were going out so in either case, they were not being caught.
  15. nice to read a little reasonable thinking.
  16. i know you guys are frusturated, but it's quite sophmoric to think any of this is Lou's fault. Your taking the players inadequacies out on him.
  17. Dubois and Murton are worlds apart. No comparison what-so-ever.... Time will tell how different they are. My money is on Murton having a slightly better career... Murton's a little longer, but if he get's traded, he put his new manager in the same situation.
  18. I'm not defending Soriano, but if I were a Cub pitcher, I much rather have Soriano out there than Murton. I like Matt, but he gives up more than he drives in. Again, if they only thing you care about is OBP and offensive stats, than Matt's probably your guy. Time will tell. We heard the same thing about Dubois.
  19. I was starting to think that I was the only rational person left on NSBB. I am amazed how some posters overreact to anything that happens to be whispered by someone. I have supported Hendry in the past, but I can't believe he would give up Murton for a relief pitcher especially since we seem to lead the league in quantity (not quality) of relief pitchers. As some posters have pointed out, Murton is the kind of player that you package with pitching prospects to get a big name player. I don't believe this rumor unless it is really an outstanding relief pitcher. I was thinking the same thing. First, the over-reaction to a rumor. Second, that trading Murton would not be even close to the worst thing Hendry has done. If the Cubs were playing fantasy baseball, then Muton has has good value, but when you actually have to put a 9 man team on the field, mixing defense with offense, Murton has avg. value.
  20. For Bobby, not Rich
  21. Pudge >>>Barrett in '04 and we win the WC running away. To me, this was a critical move based on Barrett's awful D.
  22. I would like a Fonzie, Pie, Colvin outfield. Package Murton and Samarja for Brandon Wood.
  23. I'll go with Cpat
