  1. i knew ed wade was a terrible general manager, but i didn't realize he was a complete a-hole as well. great hire, astros.
  2. i know backup catchers are not supposed to be good hitters, but how on earth has dane sardinha managed to wriggle his way into the big leagues? i looked up his stats because people always said he was a great defensive catcher who couldn't hit, and was wondering if his bat finally progressed. nope - he was .202/.255/.325/580 last year, and has a career minor league line of .222/.264/.337/601. he has to be the worst-hitting position player on a major league roster, right?
  3. hope detroit scores again here, because next inning they'd have to run the gauntlet of ludwick, ankiel and larue.
  4. yay, washed up former roider hits a homer run.
  5. matt garza pitched a 1-hitter (hanley ramirez home run) and faced 1 more the minimum, striking out 10. he'd look nice in a cub uniform right now, but unfortunately our prospects don't quite measure up to delmon young.
  6. can't stop skip schumaker and aaron miles, dude. can only hope to contain them.
  7. i'm calling the detroit police and demanding that todd jones be arrested for arson
  8. and of course aaron miles punches one into left for a single... how have they not signed freddie bynum yet, he'd probably rake for them.
  9. skip schumaker just singled and is hitting .305... here comes .315 hitter aaron miles behind him!
  10. hopefully marquis decides to hit the ball with his face.
  11. yeah i don't really need to see things taking a dump in this thread. i'm well aware that marquis is s*** without the visual aids.
  12. nice pitching you sack of elephant feces
  13. that'd be a very poor move. their ERAs may be similar, but gallagher's peripherals offer much more promise than marquis. Yes, but Hendry signed Marquis and we are going to use him for all three years. i don't mind them taking a flier on marquis to see if he can get his good sinking fastball back, but i refuse to believe that there was the market demand to give a 3-year contract to an average (at best) pitcher coming off a horrendous year. much like the blanco contract, jim made a bid that was completely unnecessary to secure the player's services.
  14. that'd be a very poor move. their ERAs may be similar, but gallagher's peripherals offer much more promise than marquis.
  15. yeah, to illustrate some of the deficiencies of ERA and ERA+, he's been better or equal to last season so far (101 ops+), 4.43 ERA, but with a whip of 1.47, his era was bound to take a tumble eventually not only that, his K-rate is down to 4.57 per 9 innings, and he's walking guys at basically the same rate as last year. his LD% is 21%, which is his worst figure since 2003, so he's actually been a little lucky on balls in play. he's giving up ground balls and fly balls at similar rates to last year, but the HR/FB rate against him is about 50% of what it normally is. the ERA might be ok, but all the peripherals are bad, and basically every sign points to him getting worse.
  16. Why, because Marquis couldn't get one out when he needed it? He's actually been pitching quite well lately. if by "pitching quite well" you mean "getting extremely lucky on balls in play," then you're right on the money.
  17. next time rothschild tells you he can fix someone, don't listen.
  18. BOOOOOOOOOOO when every outing involves hanging by a thread, eventually the thread is gonna break.
  19. and a handful of people will continue to think that edmonds is a good defensive CF.
  20. ron villone? man, the entire cardinal pitching staff is an exercise in dumpster diving.
  21. what the hell kind of name is radhames liz? sounds like an egyptian girl or something.
  22. okay, except ash bats are just as good as maple bats and don't splinter dangerously when broken. so why not make the switch?
  23. nah, that was jerry manuel
