  1. i had been seeing him in box scores at iowa, but assumed he was typical AAA roster filler and didn't bother learning where he came from. i still have no idea who he is.
  2. Who are you replacing him with? i have no idea. that's probably what's keeping him in that role despite his recent slump.
  3. i wonder how much more rope pedro strop gets before he gets moved down in the bullpen pecking order.
  4. So take 5 seconds and look up his numbers. i have looked them up before seems streaky good year then soso then bad then good. He was a 1.8 WAR player his rookie season, then 2.8, 3.1, -0.1 and then 2.7. He's a productive, very affordable player going through a rough patch. Sending him down would be stupid and trading him now would be selling low. Just move him down in the lineup and work him through it. If they want to move Baez up just kick Coghlan out of the lineup. you say this as if he knows what WAR means.

  6. those two strike hacks at curveballs a foot outside are pretty pathetic, starlin.

  8. heyward on may 10th last year: .206/.297/.301/.598 rest of the season: .291/.368/.410/.778 heyward on june 1st, 2013: .142/.283/.236/.519 rest of the season: .297/.376/.500/.876 maybe we should hold off on throwing dirt on this coffin for a little while.
  9. well he's averaged about 2.5 wins per season the last 4 years while practically playing for free. that's probably what they've seen in him.
  10. by the way, remember when mcleod said this last year? fast forward one year - schwarber is in AA, doing pretty much what kris bryant did to the league.
  11. And people are no longer saying he "should be doing this" except it was stupid when people said it last year. yes, an advanced college player picked in the first round should be able to hit in the low minors. but he was a year and a half younger than the average player in the FSL and posted an ops close to 1.000 at that level.
  12. While Keith Law's beloved Michael Conforto sits in A+ with an .809OPS. well, a line of .280/.340/.469/.808 is still good for a college player in the FSL in his first full season. not many guys just schwarber the hell out of every level.
  13. remember last year when a lot of prospect people said that schwarber "should be doing this" in A-ball because he's a college player? well, now he's a 22 year old who's comprehensively destroying AA pitching.
  14. i forgot that he's an actual fringe prospect because he had such a terrible year at tennessee in 2014. i guess he'll be battling it out with szczur for the righthanded-hitting 5th outfielder who can be a late inning pinch runner and defensive replacement.
  15. I think he meant LaStella. yeah, my bad - lastella was hitless. good pitching today: underwood 5ip, 4 h, 0 r, 0 bb, 3 k (1.07 ERA) paniagua 2 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 1 bb, 1 k clifton 6 ip, 4 h, 1 r, 3 bb, 7 k baez is 3-4 (all singles) with a strikeout. also has two stolen bases.
  16. good game all around for tennessee, except for almora going hitless (although no strikeouts) in 4 at bats. almora 2-4, bb (double, triple) schwarber 3-4, bb (single, double, homer) vogelbach 2-3, 2bb, k (2 doubles) mckinney 1-5, k (double) hannemann 2-4, sb (2 singles)
  17. watching that play, i don't even think he slipped on the grass or hit a pothole. the grass was dry and it doesn't look like there was some random hole in the field. i think he just started to overrun the ball, then completely spazzed out. i don't even know what else to call it.
  18. they're a little bit unlucky with health issues to Grimm, Neil but the Motte & Coke signings were pure idiocy coke i can see being a bad signing, but motte i don't think was that bad. at least as a bounce back candidate. it seems like there is only a small handful of relievers who are reliable from year to year (miller, clippard, etc) and then a bunch of guys who seem to fluctuate based on command issues and babip fortunes.
  19. also, someone desperately needs to add these effects to the polanco gif. http://i.imgur.com/Qwjj0hu.gif
  20. Ross was still available, although that would have left Coke as the only remaining pitcher and I don't think he was warming, so my guess is Jackson would have hit. ross strained his oblique in yesterday's game and ended up bunting into a strikeout on a 2-2 count. i'm not sure he can swing a bat right now. i think jaxon was the only move there, especially since he was needed to pitch as long as the game went on. Ross was on deck in the 10th so he clearly wasn't a hard scratch if the situation dictated it, but I agree Jackson would have hit there. i'm mildly hoping that ross was just being used as a decoy there, and he's injured enough to require time on the DL.
