  1. Ill be honest, I dont know anything about his defensive skills, but offensively, hed probably do what your average backup C does. Next year If rather just give him the job rather than pay Koyie Hill or someone similar $1 mil or more. the book on him defensively is that he has good skills but makes too many mistakes. he had a .275 OBP last year in AA. he's off to a better start this year offensively, but i don't know that he's a better option next year than robinson chirinos (though i don't know if chirinos has progressed enough defensively).
  2. wellington castillo is major league ready???
  3. Normally i'll give a player some leeway for a couple of slow weeks at the start of a season, but we're a quarter of the way through the year and aramis ramirez still looks wretched at the plate. it's not like he's been unlucky either: k-rate, career: 15.5% (most of his cubs career it's been in the 11-14% range) k-rate, this season: 25.6% LD/GB/FB rates since 2002: 19.8%/35.1%/45.0% LD/GB/FB rates this season: 15.1%/24.4%/60.5% HR/FB since 2002: 13.4% HR/FB this season: 5.6% so what is going on? he's obviously making much less contact, not hitting the ball hard enough and hitting too many weak fly balls. a couple of takes from fangraphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/aramis-troubles-with-the-wood/
  4. primarily because of this book, i get your reference. http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/38/f7/8092024128a0bedd634e1010.L._SL500_AA300_.jpg
  5. really compelling conference finals this year
  6. i'm almost dreading his contract as much as i am soriano's. well not quite yet but this is a quarter season that he's been God-awful, and it's not fluky BABIP weighing him down.
  7. leave him in AAA to keep building up his arm strength by going deep into ballgames.
  8. well if everyone was on PEDs then isn't armstrong dominating them still really impressive, even if he cheated? i mean, if everyone was cheating and he wasn't then what he did was superhuman, but if a cheater kept killing a bunch of guys who were also cheating, at least they were all on level ground.
  9. that game was really one-sided... montreal generated nothing and it felt like we spent the whole second period in their end. montreal has been hard to eliminate... hopefully we can finish them in game five and not make this interesting.
  10. pretty horrendous night for the minor league clubs/prospects, besides jay jax.
  11. then you probably should not consider yourself a pretty close follower of baseball
  12. i think the cubs only use their hitting shoes against the brewers.
  13. maybe not, but the fact of the matter is that lou has repeatedly lessened our chance of winning games this year. honestly, he's dusty-bad now. i don't really care if he gets fired or not though, because this team isn't very good. but there should be no way that he's back next year.
  14. welp that sucked. had a feeling it was coming though. hopefully we can make a better showing in game four.
  15. raley's k-rate is nice but his H/9 and BB/9 are pretty damn bad. of course, a lot of that is being skewed by that one disaster outing. hak-ju lee needs to strike out less. nice to see burke with another good game.
  16. when a utility infielder gets 170 PAs and is epically bad, he can cost the team 1.5 wins, as miles did last season.

  18. lol i love when bad things happen to dusty baker
  19. man now i am dreading ARam staying with the cubs for another two years.
  20. wait so we have a good-hitting catcher and lou pinch hits for him, leaving himself with no catcher to catch the bottom of the 9th inning if it gets that far? am i reading this correctly?
  21. pitching grabow in a tie game, bringing in grabow to face a lefty batter who has been better against lefties than righties since the beginning of 2009, etc. lou continues to provide plenty of reasons that he should be removed from his position.
