  1. apparently your radio dial is broken since he keeps saying ridiculous things and you continue to listen.
  2. even if he's not, it's a defensible investment. they're paying $1.5 million for a guy who's probably a borderline first round talent. samardzija was a borderline first round talent and they gave him the type of deal that elite college talents like prior, teixeira and jd drew get. the samardzija deal is one of the greatest examples of cub mismanagement in the last decade.
  3. so you're talking about things other than being worse than a replacement player, because that was totally easy to notice from the stands. what does this mean? 40 total? he threw out 33 baserunners in his major league career before last year. if he meant 40 percent, then i guess it depends on your definition of "about" - he was at 33.3%, which is far enough below 40% that i'd consider it a significant difference. if you count last year - and why shouldn't you - he's thrown out 28%, which isn't really that good. probably about average. according to baseball-reference, welington castillo has thrown out 40% of would-be base stealers in his minor league career. robinson chirinos was at 31%. he is? the pitching staff was mediocre last year. bullpen was a joke and starters were all right. as for his defense, i don't see anything special there and i suspect that hendry could not back up this argument with a shred of statistical evidence. get better management in the dugout and better players who have leadership capabilities. don't sign a black hole on offense to be a cheerleader. about 90% of the backup catchers in the league, plus at least one of the cub minor leaguers, would be better in his role. he is terrible. so while soto was in AAA in 2007 with koyie hill as the backup, koyie taught him how to hit, even though koyie does not know how to hit himself. then while he was winning the rookie of the year for the chicago cubs, koyie really helped him in his progression while catching for the iowa cubs. koyie did come up in 2009 and help geo along to a very disappointing year. i'm confident that if you asked soto who has been instrumental in his development, and he had to be honest, koyie hill would not be one of the first 5 or 10 people he named. he was? most of the young pitchers were awful last year. did he teach schlitter and stevens and maine and mateo how to throw batting practice? samardzija how to miss his spots by 2 feet? cashner was good because he has a great arm; he was terrific in the minors and then much worse with the big club. i'd like to think that too, but i'd be lying to myself, because we've all seen enough of your work to know that you aren't capable enough to make these types of decisions.
  4. yeah koyie's positive presence has really made a huge difference, that's why last year's team was in the bottom third of MLB last year and the team played .400 baseball with him in the starting lineup. hendry is a dumb douche and that quote pretty much sums up why he is unqualified to be the general manager of a team with world series aspirations.
  5. yes, although he probably didn't feel like dealing with the pain and rehab that it would take to get back to pitching in the major leagues. that being said, almost everyone in the major leagues and probably on planet earth would take $12 million to do that, so more power to him.
  6. Have you ever had mono? no and maybe i'm taking the term bedridden too literally, but not being able to do much because you're sick is different than being confined to a bed.
  7. are they talking just as far as their play on the football field? if not i'd have to knock roethlisberger down to the bottom.
  8. speaking of crazy bitter...
  9. i can definitely get behind this. neither nfc team is anywhere near as unlikeable as the two AFC teams left. and, maybe because i grew in the philly area and then spent several years living in a pitt market, i find jets and steelers fans to be way more obnoxious as well.
  10. got this problem a lot today: there was some other error about MySQL, whatever the hell that means. this is actually pretty common; i find it happens most at about 3-4 AM central time. maybe that's why i notice it and nobody else does, because that's late afternoon for me.
  11. that was kind of a litmus test as to whether you fall under the "larry the cable guy" crowd or not.
  12. people who make diabetes jokes just don't have a leg to stand on.
  13. i have a hard time that someone spent 3 months in bed because of mono.
  14. personally i would be careful about opening e-mails from brett favre.
  15. yeah i think he has sufficiently embarrassed himself and tarnished his legacy now.
  16. This is a joke, right? I honestly can't tell. OK, he didn't use the term "winnable game" exactly, but the rest he said, and it was implied that it was a game that got out of hand early that probably shouldn't have. apparently it's really tough to write "i was wrong"
  17. It was definitely implied. you definitely have to consider the source here.
  18. what a cynical douche
  19. Where? when's this [expletive] going to stop? everyone knows where i live at this point yet the same joke has been made about 100 times. i've tried deflecting it in just about every way possible but i guess it just continues to be too hilarious.
  20. so it's okay for a goon to pick a fight with a guy who's never had a fighting major in the nhl while avoiding the other tough guys on the ice.
  21. I'm extremely against the idea of basing the opinions of entire divisions/conferences on bowl record/playoff record. Sample size is way too small. Atlanta lost because they ran into an awesome QB having the day of his life and New Orleans lost because they played a [expletive] game at the worst possible time. or they just weren't that good. atlanta's record was better than their expected record given points for/against and yardage gained/allowed. tampa was the same way - solid record but absolutely no wins of any substance.
  22. oh i'm sorry i didn't realize that fans of other teams could not participate in this thread. probably should have erik change the thread title to reflect this new information.
