  1. billy hamilton (reds - low A dayton) has 95 stolen bases with 4 games left to play... will be interesting to see if he can get to 100. i also wonder who the last player was to steal 100 bases in a season.

  3. gillick was an outstanding GM and should not be considered a retread. look at the performances of the organizations he joined. the blue jays won two world series. he went to baltimore and they made the playoffs twice in his three years. then he went to seattle, they made the playoffs twice and tied the record for most wins in a season. then he went to the phillies and made the playoffs twice and won a world series. good luck finding a well-traveled gm with a better track record than that.
  4. kevin goldstein did a chat last week and answered a few cub-related questions:
  5. oh Lord was that stuff ever bad. also horrendous: black label, koch's golden anniversary. as a connoisseur of bad beers, i'm intrigued by the talk of big flats and would like to try it.
  6. i think there's a decent chance that at least one of them is back, so i'm pretty excited about this. you should change your name to "gay guy from crocodile dundee, you know the guy dressed like a chick who gets his dick squeezed by crocodile dundee" if they're both gone. i'll pass. sounds like you've got a lot of great ideas for your future ID though.
  7. if you were going full troll you should've had the cardinals winning it all, then pujols declaring in the post-ws jubilation that he would sign with the cards for $1m a year for the rest of his playing career.

  9. huh, for some reason i thought that AAA leagues went longer into september. then yeah, just call him up after iowa's season ends and let him fart around wrigley for a few weeks.
  10. i'd almost just leave lahair in iowa so that he can try to win the pcl mvp. the i-cubs suck but lahair has put up some monstrous counting stats and could lead the league in hr and rbi while hitting well over .300. he's kind of on the japan track, and if a pcl mvp could help him make some pretty good coin over there, then just let him do that rather than have him get 20 ABs as pinch hitter or spot starter for pena.
  11. worldwide draft would be really cumbersome... the draft as it is lasts 50 rounds, and then you add in all of latin america, the far east, etc? and what happens to the academies in latin america that teams have poured lots of money into? i can see a hard slotting system being installed, but not the worldwide draft. also, this really annoys me: oh ok, a perfect example is from 7 years ago when a team decided to save like $2m and paid dearly for their stupidity. what about the terrible nationals ending up with strasburg and harper? what about the pirates, royals and nationals being among the highest-spending teams in amateur player procurement during the past few years?
  12. he's not a prospect (shut up, bear claw), but opitz had a monster game for daytona - 4-4 with 2 home runs and 6 rbi. szczur was 2-6; logan watkins 2-5 with a SB. loosen pitched pretty well. angel guzman pitched in relief (rather than his usual 2 inning start) and gave up 3 runs on a hbp, single and hr. vitters was 2-4 with a hr and a K. beliveau 2 ip, 1 h, 1 er, 0 bb, 2 k.
  13. drop nelson cruz add granderson
  14. for those interested in player valuation, this has the potential to be a great resource... here's what BP has put online: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=14836 http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/ http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/?cyear=2011&team=CHN&pos= (cubs) i'm just getting into this now, but the layout looks really good and i can see this being an excellent tool that enhances the work that cot's does.
  15. hr vitters... and hr mcnutt
  16. uzr has them as the best defense in baseball. their pitching has been a lot better than expected, which probably owes a lot to their defense.
  17. i'd prefer an (east coast) evening, because the draft as it is now would be 5 AM sunday... i'll be awake for work, but that's usually a busy time (just arriving at work and i won't be able to pay great attention to the draft.
  18. i'd take that if the upton is justin.
  19. Good move by the padres to save a couple mil and draft matt bush instead of verlander.
  20. Maybe we should just go ahead and move Baez off shortstop now
  21. If beliveau isn't protected he'll be gone. There's no way a lefty reliever who gets everyone out in the high minors doesn't get selected.
  22. Oh good, he throws to the right base and catches the ball. We can safely say that Amaya has successfully mastered little league.
  23. Unfortunately it's nothing that underhanded. I'm on vacation for about 11 days and it's near impossible to manage one's team on an iPhone. Need a PC/Mac and I'm traveling around some fairly remote parts of Queensland, so I don't have one.
  24. This is about 1000x better than using safari on the iPhone, thanks tim
  25. I'm as intrigued by maples as the next guy, but is there really any difference between him and jr mathes?
