  1. "loopholes getting exploited" is not the same thing as "bags of cash under the table" also, drew rosenhaus is pretty powerful (as are some of the other big agencies) and scott boras has never been accused of cheating or really even being unethical.
  2. yes and it was as silly when you said it the first time as it is now. Why is it silly? Makes plenty of sense to me. Your not the only person to wonder whats to keep it from coming to that davell. so basically teams in every salary cap league in the world engage in rampant cheating. Does that have to be proven to talk about the possibility it could happen under the new CBA in baseball? well i guess you can talk about the possibility, but really, where is the proof that this kind of thing happens in the various salary cap leagues worldwide? plus if teams are cheating in the draft and get caught, they'll obviously face extremely stiff penalties like heavy fines and forfeiting draft picks. the idea that professional organizations are just going to start giving high school draftees cars and houses is probably pretty farfetched.

  5. I think I'm quite ready to stop giving a [expletive] about how much luck does or doesn't enter into it and give Cardenas some starts. well good thing you're not managing the cubs then.
  6. i now have jaime garcia, halladay, panda, longoria, austin jackson and alex avila on the dl. not surprisingly i am getting crushed this week. also yu darvish is the new dice-k.
  7. who the [expletive] is norichika aoki
  8. i can guarantee you that there were threads late last year (and certainly late 2006) that probably had like 4 posts in them. edit: viewforum.php?f=26&start=75 two threads with 5 posts, two threads with 7, one with 9 on that page. viewforum.php?f=26&start=50 a 9 and an 8 on that one. (and there was a cubs game on 9/24 that nobody even made a thread for, although some 9/24 game-related posts were made in the 9/23 thread) viewforum.php?f=26&start=250 4, 5 and two 7 post threads. this thread had two posts before the game, ONE during it, then me commenting that it was a new low by pointing out that one post was made during the game, and UMFan commenting on my post. so yeah, it can get a lot worse. and i'm sure it will get a lot worse in september, unless jackson and rizzo are up and playing every day, because people will care about their at bats.
  9. if he's completely obliterating the mwl, to the point where he's not getting anything out of playing there, then i'd imagine (or hope) that they'd move him up. but he'd have to be pretty great for that to happen. the other scenario is if daytona makes the playoffs and peoria doesn't (neither will win their league's first half); maybe he gets bumped up for that if there's a need.
  10. found this on bleacher nation (not to be confused with the thoroughly useless bleacher report): some of the guys he's interested are obvious, like acosta and malava, who received 7-figure bonuses. hadn't heard anything about paulino, but he had a monster outing today. roney alcala is also off to a nice start.
  11. dsl cubs 2 blew up and won 17-2. good days for the 6-figure and 7-figure guys who played: luis acosta 2-5, triple, bb, 2 k, 5 rbi; mark malave 2-5, bb, k, error; pedro araujo 5 ip, 5 h, 1 er, 1 bb, 5 k. delbis arcila is off to a good start; i remember having some interest in him last year just based on his numbers, but he's 19 and in his third season there, so maybe they don't think he's much. dsl cubs 1 won 5-2. only bonus guy (at least using raisin's post about who received bigger bonuses) who saw action was f. sanchez, ss: 0-3 with a walk and error. some 17 year old 1b is off to a good start. pitchers were standouts: d. adrian (21 years old, so meh): 4 ip, 1 h, 1 er, 2 bb, 6 k. then some 17 year old lefty (jose paulino) came on and had a monster game: 4 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 0 er, 0 bb, 10 k.
  12. i don't know why people think boras is some slimy mole who will cheat to get as much money as possible for his client. he's a hard-ass but not a complete scumbag. also, what you are suggesting is that basically any league with a salary cap will inevitably engage in rampant cheating.
  13. It's still very good. Between Bryant, Stanek, Crawford, Wilson, Whitson, Moran, and some others i'm probably forgetting, along with the typical breakout guys, there's more than enough guys that could turn into consensus top guys. And that's just college. I've heard Meadows (HS OF'er) as a potential 1-1, and have heard good things about some catcher (name escapes me). yeah but i'm talking a guy who was a standout #1 overall pick before his draft-eligible season. i'm sure there's plenty of talent; it would just be exciting to look forward to drafting a generational talent (oh wait we did that with prior and he broke)
  14. bonus baby luis acosta hit a home run (and struck out four times). another bonus baby, mark malava, had a good game (2-4, 2 doubles, 4 rbi, 1 bb).
  15. some 16 year old who we signed for $120k struck out 7 in 5 innings in the DSL
  16. they underachieved pretty badly for most of the year, but they picked up carter late and also started to get a little more healthy. i picked them to win the cup before the year started so i'm not too surprised - more surprised that they only finished 8th in the conference.
  17. last 28 days: .418/.522/.855/1.377
  18. mildly annoyed that there isn't a strasburg or harper in this draft, given how bad the cubs look.
  19. raisin posted this blurb earlier: really doesn't sound like a mega over slot, probably just gets a small amount extra to buy him away from school. plus they said he's a good student, and why would a good student go to arizona state?
  20. new favorite prospect: 17 year old 3b for DSL cubs 1, 5-for-7 with 2 doubles and 2 SB so far. name? ADONIS PAULA
  21. No! i admire your optimism, but there was roughly a 0% chance that buxton fell to the cubs.
  22. you're really unlikely to draft a guy widely considered to have TOR upside when you're not in the first round. sometimes guys drafted later turn into TOR pitchers, but that's as much luck as it is anything else.
  23. do you ever know what the [expletive] you are talking about?
