  1. another big game for ronny... his regular season incompetence be damned, he had 50 decent ABs in spring training, so sign me up!
  2. That has nothing to do with how many he will hit this season. Neither does the rest of the thread. Why does it matter when he hits a homer? He's still hitting well and that's all that matters. This is overblown. not really... it's not uncommon for players to lose power after a wrist injury. If Lee goes from a 30-40 HR threat to a guy who can't hit 20 HR, that's a big deal.
  3. Better park condition would be Des Moines, Iowa. He has no options left, I don't think. He'd have to be DFA'd, which would probably be the best thing. Doesn't matter, nobody is going to pick him up. Even the Royals and Devil Rays don't need a pitcher who throws beach balls.
  4. Yet, the Cardinals with largely a collection of crap will win 90 games. Nah they won't they suck too. Even Larussa can't fix this mess. They will be lucky to get to .500 and will still win the division/world series
  5. i already know i'm boned
  6. i'm starting to agree with you. Last year's team was certainly bad enough on paper to lose 90+ games. This year's team should be able to play .500 baseball, but since they're cubs, they won't.
  7. i'd actually prefer vitters to brackman... i think brackman has as much risk as a high school first rounder, if not more risk
  8. i knew the cards would score, just didn't know if it would be a pujols hr or a pop up in the outfield that would get dropped or lost in the sun
  9. great and of course the devils win today... maybe i can find out later that donovan mcnabb got run over by a bus too
  10. sweet... in the absence of juan pierre, i really missed having a centerfielder who couldn't get on base
  11. didn't you get banned? he should be banned for saying something so obviously wrong
  12. a date with the cubs pitching staff - just what the doctor ordered for a struggling hitter
  13. cubs are awful
  14. Your 2007 Cubs - talented enough to be in a lot of close games; inept enough to lose them all
  15. 9 IP, 5 H, 1 ER (solo homer), 2 BB, 15 K He's incredibly talented... not on the level of Felix Hernandez, but he could certainly be a perennial all-star if he stays healthy. I'm not sure even Charlie Manuel can screw this kid up.
  16. With someone like Rich Hill, the control was there in the minors but not in the majors. Marmol has never had better than average control, and generally it's been rather poor. At this point, if they see him as a closer prospect, I don't think they'd be hurting his development by shifting him to the bullpen. The Cubs have a lot of guys in the pipeline who are really starter-only prospects (Gallagher, Veal, Samardzija) and if Z is signed, there are four guys set in the rotation for the next couple of years. Meanwhile, the pen has a good number of veterans (Howry, Eyre) and guys who are marginal (Ohman, Cotts). So I favor moving him to the bullpen.
  17. Winner. Anyone else notice how Lou isn't working his starters anywhere near as hard as Dusty? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure what the difference is here. Actually, this years' starters are averaging 96.18 P/G so far compared to 91.90 last season. that probably has more to do with the cubs' starters getting drilled and knocked out earlier last year, whereas this year a lot of guys have been able to go deeper into games.
  18. some of the defending on the back end was pretty horrendous, but that was a sick run
  19. should they bother playing this one, or just forfeit and give the cards the victory?
  20. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap?gid=270421116&prov=ap Yeah Albert, that sounds exactly like Braden Looper, Kip Wells, and whatever other crap starters that you guys have. Seriously, coming from the single luckiest franchise in sports over the last three years that's pretty daring. Makes perfect sense, though. He thinks incredible luck is the Cardinals domain and he's pissed that a player from another team got lucky, too. He's sounds scared to me. What's his average now? .203? Yeah... I'll rip on him for whining about something stupid, but I'm not gonna say he shouldn't talk because he's not hitting well.... being as his career average coming into this year was .332.

  22. That's not good. It's possible that he won't even get the Thursday start-if management decides that he is not right for the 5th spot, then I could easily see them not wanting him to start on Thursday because he will likely be recalled on Friday as a reliever. If that happens then (or if he pitches on Thursday and isn't absolutely outstanding) then I don't think he'll get another chance at starter for at least another month. If Marmol keeps pitching like he did his last two outings, Guzman may not get that chance. not saying that marmol is a bust, but he was disturbingly bad with the cubs last year. Personally, I'd like to see him groomed as a closer.
  23. obviously he's not going to keep going with an ERA under 1.00, but out of the teams he's faced this year -- Atlanta, Cincy and Milwaukee -- he faced Atlanta and Milwaukee once during the second half of last season, and faced Cincy twice. He also faced Pittsburgh, San Fran and Arizona twice each last year. So it's safe to say that most guys he pitches against this year have seen him at least once, if not more.
  24. yeah marquis' peripherals are really not that bad... yeah he's been a little lucky, but it's not like he'd be getting destroyed if he were having average luck.
