  1. yeah those "scouts" can shove it, juan pierre is a great player no matter how you slice it
  2. and steals second, then scores on a hoffpauir single murton reached on an error in his second AB, grounder to short on a 1-0 pitch. Veal is pitching out of trouble tonight... 5 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 1 K. Tenn is up 4-0, while Huntsville is tied at 1 in the second.
  3. Gregg Jeffries ended up with a decent career, but he was supposedly on his way to cooperstown before even seeing a major league pitch.
  4. your kidding right? I wasn't kidding, but I am prone to hyperbole. Still in my top 5 though. Man, its funny how different people take different games. This game didn't hurt me too much because I kinda saw this coming. The way the offense was hitting, it seemed all too unlikely that we'd score any runs. Anyways I can think of 5 worse losses in my mind, 10 probably. 4/10 vs. Houston - Home opener spoiled by Adam Everett's GW HR 4/13 vs. Cincinnati - Cubs take a 5-0 lead with Z on the hill when he implodes and gives up 6 runs in the 5th. Neither team scores the rest of the way. 4/17 vs. San Diego - Cubs lose in the 14th as the Cubs have several opportunities to score and don't. Pie throws out a runner at the plate in extras, but eventually the Padres score and win 4/22 vs. St Louis - Cubs tie the game on a miraculous 2 run single by DeRosa in the 9th with 2 outs and 2 strikes and then Dempster gives up a 3 run bomb to Pujols 5/12 vs. Philly - Cubs come back from 5-1 deficit with 6 in the 7th to take a 7-5 lead. The Cubs pen gives up 6 in return and the Cubs lose 11-7 5/17 vs. Mets - Cubs have a 5-1 lead entering the 9th and Dempster comes on just to get some extra practice, but gives up 5 runs and the Cubs lose. 5/25 vs. LA Dodgers - Cubs come back from a 5-0 defecit to take an 8-5 lead with 7 runs in the 7th. But then the bullpen implodes and gives up 4 runs in the 8th for a loss. 6/10 vs. Braves - Cubs, with Ted Lilly ejected in the 1st inning claw theirselves into a 4-2 lead. Dempster gives up 3 runs in the 8th and the Cubs lose. 6/12 vs. Mariners - Cubs tie up the game 3-3 in the 8th, and have the bases loaded with 0 outs and don't score. Mariners score 2 in the 13th and the Cubs lose. I'm also leaving out several one run losses that the bullpen gave up late leads in. Sorry, I'm not picking on you, I just kinda got off on a side tangent and wanted to figure out how many painful losses we've had. You left out that game against the Pirates that the Cubs blew against the Pirates when they had 2nd and 3rd, no outs in the 8th inning with a 1 run lead, and didn't get them home. Then came the inevitable blown save and the loss in the 15th inning. That might have been the worst game - pitching, hitting, umpiring - I've ever seen.
  5. like the way no ump is going to call the neighborhood play at second on a DP? sometime check out the play on which Chipper injured both hands. That's different. Bautista's glove was basically underneath his body... on that play there was no way that he possibly could have tagged out the runner. This was very different... Bowen clearly was moving his arms toward Theriot; even if he'd gotten him with the forearm, the ump would've called Theriot out.
  6. ](*,) Hill pitches very well but as usual gets no run support, and the cubs lose.
  7. Atkins line: 2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. He may well be done with A-ball. Colvin has gone 0-2 with a K, Matulia 0-1 with a BB.
  8. Murton flies to deep center in a 7-pitch AB to end the first.
  9. Tenn up 3-0, starting off the game with 5 hits and a sac fly. Veal has 3 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K. Huntsville either hasn't started yet or isn't reporting.
  10. even if he didn't have the glove on him, no ump is going to call him safe if he gets him with the forearm and not the glove. It's too hard to tell, and if the ball beats the runner, 99% of the time he'll be called out there.
  11. Murton is listed as batting 5th and playing RF... the I-Cobs lineup is now: 2B Patterson SS Cedeno 1B Ward LF Hoffpauir RF Murton CF Coats 3B Moore C Richie P Mathes I'd guess that when Ward departs, Hoffpauir will shift back to 1B, with Coats playing LF and Walker back in CF. And Soto is the regular catcher, obviously.
  12. this rivals a bears thread in the amount of officiating paranoia
  13. maybe lee just hates white people
  14. again, i'd like to remind everyone that the cubs had to score a run to win the game, and against a really good bullpen with a terrible lineup, this was really unlikely to happen. I'd take the Padres' chances against our bullpen over our chances against theirs.
  15. i think the loss against the mets beats this one by a mile... actually i can think of several losses worse than this one
  16. while it sucks that the ump blew a call, the cubs pathetic offense could play til next week and not score off the padres' bullpen. they were gonna win this game anyway.
  17. hey they won 3 games in a row, 4 is asking too much Should have one the first game against the Mariners. yeah and should have lost the second one
  18. hey they won 3 games in a row, 4 is asking too much
  19. thanks for the great outing Z... sorry that you play for the cubs and one run is too much to give up
  20. hey and maybe one of these supposedly "good" AL Central teams could do us a solid and beat the brewers in a series
  21. ruben rivera
  22. This doesn't make sense... you're basically writing off his God-awful 2006 and his few ABs with the big club in 2007, but you're embracing the "amazing plate discipline" he's shown in about 100 PAs with Iowa? No, sir, but I do attribute a lot of his struggles in '06 to the uber-aggressive approach that Dusty Baker and Co. worked to instill in him. are we sure that dusty was telling him to swing at everything? Or would it be more accurate to say that Dusty wasn't telling him not to swing at everything.
