  1. you aren't going to get anything good for jones, and you're going to have to eat the salary. Just get rid of him, Jim.
  2. On a funny, non-baseball related note, we were getting complaints from a LA or SD newspaper that we have as a client. Apparently our derivation for temperatures in Woodland Hills was off, so we kept forecasting highs that were way too low. I know on one day, we predicted a high of 75 and they hit 94. I can see why readers were not pleased. Heh, the paper should have used some common sense there - Woodland Hills is the hottest part of LA. It's awful in the summer, there are times when the high desert is cooler. It's not the paper's fault... they just take what we give them and run it. We were just had a bad derivation. We've actually had a similar complaint for a coastal city in central CA that was loading temps in the 80s and 90s, but never getting much above the mid 70s unless there was a Santa Ana.
  3. I hope whoever is hitting behind Brian Roberts knows how to bunt
  4. OMG I live in State College, PA!!! (kidding)
  5. Unless the reported snag turns out to be a bigger deal than we thought. It should be interesting to see how Fontenot does at SS today. It is important for his future that he be able to play as many IF positions as possible, since he'll probably end up being a bench player, and it would also give us a replacement at SS for Izturis and Theriot, neither of whom are playing well right now, and neither of whom looks like an everyday player longterm. I'll spoil the suspense - he's not going to be a good fielding shortstop. He won't be a average. But if he can provide a .750 OPS from that spot, it'll make up for the lousy D.
  6. I don't think it's being unrealistic. With Font and DeRo doing so well and having Theriot on the bench I believe it makes Izturis expendable. I can see it being the next move the cubs make. you're assuming that we have a competent GM who is willing to admit his mistakes

  8. we already got rid of jones, don't be greedy/unrealistic

  10. good night to put fontenot as short, with lilly on the mound. I'm sure fontenot can turn around and watch balls fly over the fence just as well as Izturis.
  11. consider me an enthusiastic member of the yonder alonso bandwagon
  12. cards have never seen a guy in the trash heap who they didn't like
  13. i wonder if tom cowley is joe cowley's son... man that guy was a bad pitcher.
  14. We've heard that it's a lefty from low-A Greensboro, so if that's true, it eliminates Ungs. Man, I saw Ungs back in 2002 when I went to a game in Jupiter to see the friend of a friend play. That team had a couple of good players - Will Smith, Chip Ambres, Josh Wilson, Denny Bautista, Josh Willingham, and some guy named Miguel Cabrera.
  15. No, they still wouldn't. They're not going to give away a guy who was their #4 prospect coming into the year for a guy who is average at best. Plus the Marlins aren't going anywhere this year, and probably next year either.
  16. apparently one of the illinois mesonet stations recorded over 3 inches of rain near lincoln park... real localized, because O'Hare only got 0.16" and the south side got nothing. Still, radar estimate shows a stripe of the north side got 3+".
  17. I don't really believe that it's a major snag. There's no way the trade got where it did without the teams talking money. If anything, they're arguing about $1-2M, or they're waiting for the approval of the commissioner's office, which I can't believe would be hard to get on such an inconsequential transaction.
  18. Any idea what West's injury is? He hasn't pitched all season long. Arthroscopic shoulder surgery, he's out for the season. In that case, welcome to the cubs, sean west. hey i'd still take him ahead of the other three guys on that list
  19. Any idea what West's injury is? He hasn't pitched all season long. something with the labrum.... don't think it was completely torn, probably similar to what prior had done
  20. I'll help you out, Lou - he's not a good baseball player.
