  1. i still can't bring myself to be that happy about last night's game. Good teams simply don't keep doing this, and they don't need the other team to botch a routine grounder to win a game like that. Yeah cool, the Cubs won the game, but all this really did was reinforce the idea that this just isn't a good ballclub.
  2. c'mon, you know he's not doing anything here. It's the Cubs - they don't win these.
  3. iowa's rally comes up a run short. Patterson ended up 3-4 with a walk and stolen base, but was left 90 feet away.
  4. i'm not gonna bother saying "soto to chicago"... everyone knows it should happen, and everyone knows it won't
  5. what's this VSL Cubs/Twins business? How do I know who's in what organization?
  6. Now here's tonight's Iowa Cubs lineup: 2B Patterson SS Cedeno 1B Hoffpauir RF Murton CF Coats C Soto LF Kroeger 3B Moore P Webb I love that in at least five of the positions: 2B Patterson vs Fontenot SS Cedeno vs Izturis C Soto vs Bowen CF Coats vs Pagan RF Murton vs DeRosa you could argue that the guy in the minors is the better hitter.
  7. wait so the Rockies have a better pitcher and better lineup, but everyone thinks it's a disgrace if we don't win at least two in this series?
  8. i was more into Perfect Strangers... one of the daughters on that stupid show with Suzanne Somers was hot, so I watched that one too
  9. wait, jones is still on the cubs and the big surprise was RF DeRosa 2B Fontenot what a shocker. I didn't see any of that coming.
  10. wow that 6 through 9 sure inspires a lot of confidence.
  11. after we lose this game, i'm on deck for my first NSBB game start in three years as a member!
  12. watching full house convinced me that I could be a hollywood writer. Full House episode consists of: 1. pointless banter 2a. kids do something wrong like drive a bulldozer through the side of the house, or 2b. one of their "dads" does something to make them think he'll be less a part of their life. 3. with about 3 minutes left in the show, the lame "we're teaching a lesson here" music comes on and everybody is forgiven, and the future looks bright again, and hugs all around.
  13. yeah they suck and aren't going anywhere this year, so it doesn't matter
  14. the problem is, it's not going to develop pitching for the big club either. He'll have to go through some long growing pains, and they won't give him that chance. Plus it's not even certain that he'll be able to develop a change. I think it's better to be thankful you've got a good relief pitcher.
  15. Jon likes to gloat. Jon can post in a locked thread, I'm keeping it unlocked so Slugger can offer her rebuttal...though in the most recent case, I think Rocket did a good job of defending her. Thank you! I never "watched" the show. One of the kids I babysit for loves the show and she was watching it. She explained to me that Hannah Montana is a regular teenage girl by day....BUT A FAMOUS SINGER BY NIGHT!! Riveting stuff! It'll never beat the awesomeness that is Full House or Saved By The Bell. full house? now i really want to change my vote.
  16. Well, I watched ATH today and JA Adande thought it was a nice gesture. My instinct is that it's hollow, but if the living players want this, then MLB should do it. But I think there will be some who decline it.
  17. wellemeyer, leicester and dubois for utley
  18. I've never seen anyone do that. It happened to me back in the day. People who give out stuff like apples or homemade stuff are just idiots; everyone's parents are going to make them throw that out. The best are the people who leave out a basket of big candy bars with a sign that says "Take One." I think that statement is open to interpretation, and I always figured that they meant the basketful, not the individual candies.
  19. ceiling is a utility outfielder; more likely, he'll be a career AA or AAA player. At least he's got a Stanford degree to fall back on.
  20. people who give out raisins during halloween should be shot same with dentists who give out a toothbrush
  21. In 1974, 27 percent of major leaguers were black. According to the census records of 1973, 11 percent of Americans were black. In 2006, 8 percent of major leaguers were black, while they made up 12 percent of the population. There's no doubt that on the personal level, people suffered financially and emotionally due to the racial separation of the leagues. However, it doesn't seem to appear that the existence of the Negro League hurt black athletes in the long run. The Negro Leagues were a huge draw back in the 40's and 50's. The Washington Grays had twice the attendance that the Senators had. The existence of the Negro Leagues has nothing to do with the state of black ballplayers today. Thus, I'm not sure anything needs to be "evened out" as regards the Negro Leagues. I'm just saying that giving them a big bag of money is more meaningful than giving them a pointless "big leaguer for a day" title. That's just condescending.
  22. thread veering quickly into the moronic
