    boy i'm glad you're not running the cubs boy i'm glad you love to root for a team that has a few losers in it. Remove the losers on this team and we can actually win this division. Dempster, Jones, Howry, Eyre are all losers. well you got two right at least.

    (a) howry is better than most of the relievers on this team (b) you have to get ONE more out in the inning. Who would you rather try to get out, a .377 OBP guy who runs like the wind, or a .291 OBP guy?

    oh good, it's one of those games where MLBtv says i'm need to pay more money to upgrade my subscription, even though i already did so three months ago.

    1.8*OBP + SLG is a lot more accurate than OBP+SLG, so obviously an OBP driven one is better. There really isn't room for discussion. Anyone who knows anything that uses OPS as a starting point will agree with this assessment. Like I said, carry on. There's no way to argue for SLG. somebody needs to give this stat a name and normalize it w.r.t. park effects and era. That could be the new convenient wonder-stat that's really better than OPS+.

    no way i'd trade a solid young pitcher on basically a min salary for an overpaid (though he's good) player like Burrell.
