The Cards will likely be crushed emotionally by that loss tonight and will unravel from this point forward, just as the Cubs did after the Ankiel game-winner last Saturday.

 

If there's one thing about baseball, it's that "emotional" wins or losses are quickly forgotten by the next game.

 

the starting pitcher is the most important factor in any given baseball game, and he doesn't participate in the game before the one that he pitches. so really, there's no momentum for him, so if he throws well, they'll probably win.

Was doing some cleaning at work, decided to check the Cardinals game, and saw the walkoff. Excited, I told my uncaring coworker all about it.

 

What almost turned out to be a terrible day turned out great :D

I'm confused as to why the Pirates would take LaRoche out of the game at that point. Now you have the horrible Raul Chavez leading off the bottom of the 10th instead of LaRoche. He wasn't involved at all in the double switch. I have no explanation.

Actually, there is an explanation from the beat reporters at the Post Gazette.

 

LaRoche's right thumb was bruised when he failed to catch a popup in the ninth, but X-rays detected no fracture. Perhaps more important, it is not related to the thumb/wrist trouble that has hampered him much of the summer. He might miss no more than the game today, with the All-Star break coming.

 

So ... that solves that mystery.

That was a crazy game and stuff, but the Pirates announcers need to calm down. Seriously.

 

Our annoucers would have been going just as nuts, especialy Ron. I dont know if any of them would have gone with the greatest comeback in the history of this orgnization, but still.
