I went through the A's box score today it showed Harden pitching 2 innings out of the bullpen to preserve a 1 hitter. Since when has he been a reliever? I always thought he was one of their better starting pitchers. It showed he had an era of 1.23 or something like that as well. So what ever happened to this guy?

I believe he's coming off an injury. I was listening to the game on XM a little and I THINK that's what they said.

ok that would make sense. I was gonna say if they didn't need him in the rotation maybe they would make him available in a trade. Thought usually they send guys that were hurt to the minors to start a game or too not usually stick them in a pen for a little bit but o well whatever.

I soppose if I read this first I would have had my answer. Athletics June 22: Designated outfielder Milton Bradley for assignment; purchased the contract of infielder Kevin Melillo from Sacramento of the Pacific Coast League (AAA); activated pitcher Rich Harden from the 15-day disabled list; optioned pitcher Shane Komine to Sacramento.

Harden (shoudler), who felt "achy" after pitching one inning on Monday, long tossed with manager Bob Geren on Tuesday for about five to 10 minutes, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Geren said the session went well, and he expects Harden to throw two innings on Friday or Saturday against the Yankees.
