Would Jorge Cantu be worth a look?

cantu seems to be the perfect hendry player.

Cantu is also terrible defensively. As a Rays fan as well, I hope they can get something of value, but I really worry about Hendry being the one to give something of value up.

Cantu wouldn't be a bad guy to get but Hendry seems content with Cedeno at 2B. I say we wait a year ot two before we try to find a replacement for Ronny.

It's either settle for Ronny/Theriot at 2b hitting 8th or get some pop at 2b and have a 2b capable of hitting 5/6 in a lineup. That gives the lineup a lot of flexibility.

If you do that, you have pop going from 3-7, with Murton developing some power as he goes. He had 4 HR in 250 ABs before the break, and has 4 in about 75 AB since then. He'll be a 15-20 HR guy before you know it.

If you compare his numbers to the numbers of Alfonso Soriano prior to this season they are a lot a like. Cantu actually put up better numbers in his first full season(2005) versus Soriano's first full season (2001). Takes very few walks, similar HR numbers, similar slg%, strikes out a little less, but has a bit lower obp.

 

 

He is still just 24 years old.

 

The question is if it is ultimately an upgrade from Cedeno/Theriot/Neifi.
