The 21-year-old Cubs lefthander hadn't allowed an earned run in 18 2/3 innings entering Monday since being promoted to high Class A Daytona from the Midwest League. He stretched that streak to 24 1/3 with five scoreless innings Monday before Vero Beach finally scraped together a run in the sixth.

 

"To come up to this league and put together that type of streak is tremendous," Bailey told the paper of Veal's scoreless stretch.
