While I agree with the point he is trying to make, I do not like how he goes about it. There are several other situations he fails to mention.

 

 

(Ortiz not going to third when Crisp could've had a 2B)

(Passed Ball/Wild Pitch consequences)

(Sacrafice consequences)

getting on base (not making an out) does very little to hinder a team's chances of scoring.

 

some baseball insiders like mccarver are just completely ignorant when it comes to seeing the forest for the trees.

 

baseball is a game that cannot be completely understood unless you have outisde observations.

Damn straight, Sulley.

 

The bottom line is that the team that makes fewer outs per plate appearance tends to score more runs. that's been shown on thousands of studies I've seen posted here and is also pretty much common sense.
