  1. If Trachsel is on a short leash for this game, hopefully Marshall is ready in the bullpen to fill in any missing innings and receives a chance to earn his job back. Marshall is supposed to pitch in one of the games on Saturday, so I don't know how much he'd be used on Thursday. Kevin Hart will probably be available to pitch, unless Marquis flops tomorrow night. I think Trachsel is going to be used as long as possible with 4 games in 3 days against the Cards this weekend. Marshall is scheduled to pitch game 2 of the DH on Saturday, so he's not likely to be used out of the pen. I'd much rather see them go with Hart or Gallagher as a long man...or better yet...not need to use a long man... i just hope everyone is mentally preparing themselves for a playoff roster that includes Trachsel but not Marshall I think they'll both be left off, although Marshall has a better chance to stick as a second lefty in the bullpen. Clearly, the Cubs view the top four guys for rotation spots are Z, Lilly, Hill, and Marquis. With all the days off, they should really go with a 10 man rotation in the playoffs, although they'll probably stick with 11. My guess is that the bullpen will be Dempster, Marmol, Howry, Wuertz, Wood, Eyre, and probably Ohman.
  2. Its the person who is most likely to be the best in the near future. If Lord of Khemennu says so, it must be so. What a stupid post.
  3. In fairness, they're probably looking at Kendall's Chicago numbers and thinking: "WTF?"
  4. On the positive side, this ump's strike zone is the size of a postage stamp. If we can stay patient....
  5. Terrible, Jacque. That's just ridiculous. Having said that, eff you, Trachsel. Eff you, Hendry.
  6. Murton 5th? Why the eff isn't he hitting 3rd?
  7. If I'm sure of one thing, it's that the Cubs shouldn't be making personnel decisions based on who is pitching for the Brewers on a particular day. That's totally irrelevant.
  8. Our washed up formerly league average pitcher against their washed up formerly above league average pitcher. MLB action is FANTASTIC!
  9. *waits for obligatory Murton whining*
  10. that is an unbelievably easy choice. WE ARE ND! I sincerely hope Jimmy Claussen is decapitated by halftime. I mean that sinclerely. I'm not sure it's possible to have a more easily hate-able Coach/QB duo than Weis/Claussen.
  11. Dear Jim Hendry: You suck. You have absolutely no idea how to construct an offense. None. Love, WB
  12. Santo just skewered Murton for swinging at the first pitch. As he should. That's as selfish as it gets.
  13. You know what I love about this board? That absolutely no one goes to extremes or jumps to irrational conclusions. Me asking what the reasoning behind him hitting 8th was in no way saying whether I agreed or didn't agree. It certainly should not have sparked 4 or 5 random comments that ultimately are unhelpful. You can't seriously be taking the position that you were "in no way saying whether I agreed or didn't agree." You had just posted this: haha, Murton 8th. Thats rich It's simply astounding to me that pages 3-8 of every single game thread turn into a bitch session about Murton not being in the lineup. And if he's in the lineup, about where Murton is hitting in the lineup. The amount of bandwidth wasted on this site about Matt Murton is atonsishing. And that's from someone who thinks he should be playing every day in RF. Yup its assanine for us Cubs fans to keep talking about wanting a guy who is our best option in RF at the moment but doesnt seem to regularly get playing time. Then you'd think that when he does play, people would be happy about that rather than bitching about some perceived slight arising from his position in the batting order.

  15. Bruce, any reasoning behind Murton 8th that you know of? Jesus H. Christmas. He's in the freaking lineup. Quit whining.
  16. Why can't bad lefties. How are we going to hit a good one?
  17. *waits for someone to complain that those OBP aren't any higher the batting averages*
  18. Papelbon - 1.61 ERA, 75 K/15 walks, .77 WHIP Dempster - 3.88 ERA, 48K/27 walks, 1.28 WHIP. But hey, at least his performance in situations arbitrarily defined by a meaningless statistic is only marginally worse than Papelbons! (Also, let's not mention the two tie games he entered and singlehandedly let get out of reach)
  19. No problem. That is what message boards are all about--a chance to share opinions. Except for the ones that you personally moderate, where only one opinion is allowed.
  20. Your douchebaggery is off the charts. Shouldn't you be busy deleting every post that is even slightly critical of Bruce Weber?
  21. GET A DAMN CLUTCH HIT, MURTON!
  22. You just leave this thread open on your desktop waiting for the oppurtunity? Nope, I just get damn frustrated with his continual inability to get a clutch hit. I wish you had as much patience with Matt Murton as you do with the Mr. Program Killer, Bruce Weber.
  23. Why do you constantly focus solely on his splits vs RHP? Because generally, that's all he is (and should) be playing against. Moreover, it's really easy to find replacement level right handed CFs who can post reasonable numbers against LHP. But is that fair to those hitters who can also hit LHPs? It's not like LHPs are rare enough to just throw them out of the discussion. Those hitters certainly give you more roster flexibility because you don't have to platoon them. That doesn't change the fact that -- used properly -- the vast vast majority of at bats that Jacque will have, he is a well-above average hitter for his position.
