  1. Well he hasn't thrown out a single guy on a straight steal since coming to the Cubs. The odd thing is that I am really not trying to make a case for either of them, I am just saying I trust Lou on this one. Heaven forbid. :) As mentioned before, this is blind faith. Dusty was an expert by your standards as well, but I'll be damned if I didn't criticize every other thing he did (because it was stupid). Not blind faith. Sorry. If it was K Hill over Soto, that would be blind faith. What more do you need to see from Kendall? With the exception of a reasonbly decent August, he's been absolutely putrid the entire season. And he hasn't actually been an asset since 2004.
  2. My fear? They've decided Murton is the odd man out for the playoff roster so they're using their playoff lineup v. LHP. If Murton is left off the playoff roster in favor of Monroe, Jim Hendry should be beaten.
  3. If the Cubs don't make the playoffs by winning 1 out of 3 from the Marlins and 2 out of 3 from the Reds, it is not going to be based upon Kendall playing over Soto. The Cubs could start me in CF the next 4 nights and it probably won't affect their record by more than a game. That doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  4. Floyd has been a freaking stud the entire month.
  5. Now let's if, by some miracle, Pineiro can keep the Crew from posting a crooked number in the bottom half. That would be miracle. Thompson is pitching
  6. Floyd with 2 walks. He's been a significant asset in September. It's about damn time.
  7. Even the Marlins announcers are saying he was safe. The Cubs' announcer disagrees regardless of whether the call was right, there's no reason to take 3-4 steps toward 2B on a humpback liner to uggla. It was bad baserunning. Exactly
  8. And/or if Soriano doesn't run the bases like Moises/Jacque...

  10. He's OPSing .794 in the second half. That's above average production from a CF. It's not a "tear," but it's more than respectable.
  11. I loathe the fact that people still mock the practice. It's good lineup construction (although admittedly less so in September when teams have 9 pitchers in the bullpen). Explain how it is a good practice to possibly cost Ramirez one at bat a game by pushing him down in the order. He is our best hitter. He should be batting 3rd or 4th. Why not 1st?
  12. It's quite simple really. When you string lefties and/or righties together, you make it really easy for the other manager to maximize platoon splits. It used to drive me crazy when Baker would bat Patterson and Walker (sometimes the only two lefties in the lineup) 1-2 because it absolutely guaranteed that for each of their final two at-bats, they'd both see left-handed pitchers.

  14. The most excited I've ever been as a Cubs fan. I'm definitely down for some recreation on their part. That was the one time in my life I really let my guard down with them. I thought for sure after that game we were going to the World Series. I thought for sure in 1984 we were going to the World Series. That scared me as a Cubs fan forever. I knew in 2003 after game 5 we were in trouble. We looked flat in that game. After the game I went on espn.com message board and told everyone that we are going to blow this. I just felt it. Of course everyone laughed at me... My Dad bought champagne and had it on ice after game 2. We watched in horror for 3 consecutive games as our best players just all of a sudden couldn't do anything right. ....watched in horror as the evil Garvey ripped our hearts out. I was too young, it was only several years later I discovered the league took away our rightful home field advantage. 1984 hurt me on a very deep level. But that was to go to the World Series. I've since learned that this club can make the playoffs. We've done it several times. The big hump is winning that 4th game in the NLCS. We aren't there yet. I continue to see people say this happened. It simply isn't true. It isn't? Cubs had the better record. I thought it was because the Cubs couldn't have night games and that would effect the ratings. Edit: I just read it was a rotating field advantage. I didn't remember that. Interersting. Up through 1984, it was rotating home field in a 2-3 format. The NL West had home field advantage in even numbered years, the NL East had home field advantage in odd numbered years.

  16. What's your point? Where did I say otherwise? My point is that umpires aren't perfect. And my point is that they made two terrible calls in the 7th inning, both of which went against the Brewers, leading to 4 runs in an absolutely critical game. maybe, maybe not. You are free to make your points. You seem a bit up tight today. You're disputing that they were terrible calls?

And I didn't ask for your opinion.

  20. Yost had good reason to get ejected and call out the umpires. The Brewers got screwed. That's just too bad. :D
  21. Updated ^^ 4-3 the rest of the way and it would take a miracle by the Brewers (7 of 8) just to tie.
  22. I've long thought that the best way to improve on a last place finish is to get rid of your best player.
