  1. Didn't Chief running back Joe Delaney die trying to save a kid from drowning? I don't really disagree with your base premise, that athletic achievement shouldn't be confused with heroism. But there have been plenty of sports figures who are true heroes. Yes, Joe Delaney drowned on June 29, 1983 while trying to save the lives of three children in Monroe Louisana. You can learn more about him on here. http://www.37forever.org/BB/index.php?s= And granted, I never seen him play, but quite a few folks that I talk to in Arrowhead and some message boards, compared him to Priest Holmes.
  2. Man, looking at all the names of the players in the '69 team, that they should had made it to the playoffs. Darn shame that Mr. Cub didn't get the oppturnity to get to play in the post-season, along with several other Cubs players.
  3. I kinda doubt it, but if you want to see a clip, you can check back on page 2, where JonMDavis has the link to Vance's question and Ryno's answer.
  4. Worked fine for my Media player. It's probably best for them to right click it and save as, instead of clicking the link. When I first clicked the link, it took a long long time to load up, so probably downloading it is the best option IMHO. Again, great work there JMD.
  5. Keep in mind that the NL West is one sorry Division. If the Brewers were in that Division, they would be in first place. Heck, the Cubs would have been in first place there as well.
  6. Yeah, I read the article, and it was a good article.
  7. All right Cubbies. You got a very important road stretch here, starting in Philly, and ending in New York. Both of those teams are in the WC hunt, and given the terrible performance aganist the Diamondbacks, ya'll better get in gear and start churning out some W's.
  8. Nomar > Neifi. Great work DJAXX.
  9. Pretty good comments from Ryno to make a case for Santo. I get the gut feeling that Santo will be in sometime soon.
  10. OMG  I just saw Vance!!
  11. Granted, for you card collectors, that it's not very high as of this moment (22.50 as MINT condition) but in time, it will deftinaly go up.
  12. Sounds like you had a great time there ronsanto10. :D
  13. Awesome report. I guess I could understand MacPhail's comments about the "asking prices were ridicilious." If I recall correctly, it was mentioned on (I think it was) BBTN where the A's were asking the Red's about Dunn, and the Red's GM said that he wanted Harden, other than that, there is nothing to discuss. Not to mention that TB's ownership was the same way. The top 2 prospects for a certain player. Not many other GM's will make that type of a deal.
  14. Lawton haven't played any CF since the 2000 season, with the Minnesota Twins if I am not mistaken. Not sure where he'll be placed, but I'm guessing he'll be in LF for the majority of the time.
  15. I wasn't sure if this was also mentioned on the previous posts. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-pirates-cubstrade&prov=ap&type=lgns
  16. Mets just took the lead on Houston. It'd be nice NOT to fall 5 games back. Gotta give props to the Mets for saving our butts today.
  17. *points the post above mine* O_O makes a good point here. All the other teams that traded was either a pitcher or didn't do any moves. Not to mention that Wood, Garciaparra, and Williamson could be activiated by this coming Friday. It'll be a interesting race.
  18. Yes, he does make the league minimum and is productive, but KC will always trade away their players that they know that they cannot afford in the future, plus that they would take prospects. Of course, that depends on DeJesus contract status, I guess.
  19. Hmm, I guess I am probably the only one here, but if the Cubs need a CF, since I'm not so sold on Hairston with his ineptness of picking the ball and throwing it in. Perhaps maybe the Cubs should take a look at David DeJesus from the Royals? Problem is that he does not posess speed, however, he is really good at the plate. .296 Average/.362 OBP/.443 SLG/ .806 OPS. *Shrugs*
  20. I said he was good. When did I call him Pujols? When did anyone call him Pujols? At some point he has to get playing time. Why can't that time be now since we have no better alternative? Because we're 2.5 games out of the Wild Card. Now is not the time to experiment. Now, if he keeps hitting like he is, I'm all for it. Just don't get to high on this kid too fast. We did that with one outfielder one time. I think his name is Corey Paterson. I know nobody called him Pujols, I was parraphrasing. It's not experimenting, it's playing the better player. You do watch the games, no? I agree with IMB here. Murton is hitting the ball very well, and it makes no sense to me to keep him on the bench. To see him at the 6th spot was fantastic. I would love for Murton to stay at the sixth spot. Hairston Walker Lee A-Ram Burnitz Murton Barrett Perez Pitcher That's how my line-up would look like on a daily basis, with an occasional off.
  21. Today's line for Blanco. 2-2, HR, 2RBI's, and 1 BB. Raising his average from .204 to .221
  22. I would pretty much agree to that. Just glad that things bounced towards our way in the 9th. A win is a win, close tight game, or a blow-out. I'll just take it.
  23. CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!!! NO HEART YOU SAY? WE GOT HEART!
