  1. It's a physical depiction of our enormous brain capacity. Now I could see how someone could find the term "Hoosier" to be offensive. Hell, I grew up in Indiana, and I don't even like being referred to as a Hoosier. :P I believe Hoosier means championship. I could see how it could confuse people living near the Wabash. :P :P
  2. For the most part, you're right. The issue isn't necessarily with the team names but rather with the iconography used to represent them. There are a few exceptions that have been noted in this thread: Redmen, Savages and Redskins are names that are offensive, regardless of the iconography. You could probably make a case that any school that calls itself the "Fighting " could be considered offensive due to the image that the word "fighting" creates in one's mind. However, I would wager that most of the team names are not considered offensive and that most people, including those that are listed as being offended, would be fine with the schools keeping the names as long as the mascots/logos that the schools parade out in front of everyone were a bit more tasteful. A perfect example is the logo of the Cleveland Indians. Does anyone honestly believe that many Native Americans (or any other people for that matter) would have a problem with the team name "Indians" if they were to change the logo to something more respectful? What about the offensively large head on Purdue Pete? Are we all to believe that all Boilermakers have such huge craniums?
  3. I think Ken Jennings could take him.
  4. Where is the "other" button? How about Donovan Osborne?
  5. Rickey says "Rickey will get in. Did you forget about Rickey?"
  6. What does Joe Morgan have to do with this?
  7. Seems like he's taking the old "Yeah, I took it, but it was an accident" route. Maybe he "tripped going down the stairs and fell onto the needle"?
  8. Sounds like a career in politics are in order for Raffy once he done with baseball.
  9. San Diego has Nevin catching today. That will teach him not to accept the trade.
  10. Pitches-strikes - B Halsey 28-20; J Williams 83-51.
  11. No kidding. It is pathetic that threads like this are started. Truely pathetic. Sammy did everything he could to appologize. He even called the man in the club house. Jesus Christ. Sosa could find a cure for cancer and people would cry that he ignored those with Aids. So you're saying they'd be complaining about his Others Possessing Sickness yet again?
  12. Jerry Hairston Jr.? Oh wait, they tag up on him.
  13. Just think how many more rbi's he would have had he not been stuck at the top of the order for most of the season with no one getting on in front of him.
  14. For 9 million dollars, I expect a little more than a 4.50 ERA "almost always", since that's what a quality start is(albeit at its worst). However, Maddux isn't even close to "almost always" pitching a quality start. 2004: 19 QS in 33 starts, 57% 2005: 12 QS in 21 starts, 57% So what do you expect for $12 mill? 2004 12 QS in 22 starts, 55% 2005 3 QS in 10 starts, 30%
  15. I agree. We've thrown all that money at him. Let's get him ready to earn it next year.
  16. I had arthroscopic surgery and I thought it was pretty painless. I only took pain meds for 2 days. Not that I'd want to have surgery again, but I didn't think it was painful. The worst part was waking up from the anesthesia and having dry mouth. Disclaimer: My surgery was not on my shoulder...that could be totally different than my knee surgery pain-wise. No, just say it: JC is a wimp!
  17. Okay tough guy. Like I said, I must have been the only person who thought Nomar was an injury risk. Crazy gut instincts. Quit it Dusty!
  18. I'd wear a prom dress to work if Dusty does that. I'll strip down to a g-string if Cedeno starts along with them. Not that any of you want to see that. Where is panel of experts? We need a confirmation if this is a good idea.
  19. Welcome to the Forum! I'd prefer Dunn to Pena in acquiring Reds OF's(I think they'd be more willing to trade Dunn too). Aurilia I want no part of. I'd rather see Cedeno play every day. He could likely put up similar numbers while assisting his development at no player cost. I don't think he had Wily Mo as part of the deal. I think he was saying the Reds may want to move Jr. to get Pena in there full time. But since Kearns was sent down Pena has been getting full-time playing time. Pena's number have increased every year and he is only 23 years old. I would love Dunn since he brings left-handed power but Pena would be a great pick-up as well.
  20. I hope I get the game, but I'm not holding my breath. I get WGN, but no Comcast. When the game's on ESPN and WGN, I get it on ESPN. When it's on ESPN and Comcast, I don't get it. Now that just doesn't make any sense at all. If you look to the bottom right, where it says "Next: Pirates vs Cubs LIVE", then you have a good chance of getting the game. Not 100% chance, but a solid one I would have to say. I think they must have moved the game up from 1:20 to 1:30 perhaps. I didn't notice that. Hopefully I'll get it since they won't have another baseball game to run. Yeah. I'm not guarentting that you WILL get the game. I'm just saying that you have a good possibility. I thought Truffle was the weatherman.
  21. You just want to keep going around in circles? You really think Cuban is the answer to Cubs fans prayers? This fascination with activist ownership is a complete joke. The Yankees of the 90's are the exception to the rule. George ran that team into the ground for 2 decades before his never ending spending finally started to pay off. Activist owners ruin franchises. You know I'll take 2 decades of being run into the ground if it gets me a couple world series. Ive had 10 of doing absolutely crap. You act like World Series rings have been raining down on the north side and you're too good for Cuban. I'll run around in a microminiskirt for a year if it gets me a WS title, I'm not picky about how it's done. Come on it's lunchtime. Is that really necessary?
  22. What's the way to win in the ML? How do you explain the perrennial playoff teams (Min, Oak, LAA, Fla, and Atl)? Even the Cards and Giants have competed with less than top 10 payrolls. Do the names Mike Hampton, Denny Neagle, Preston Wilson, and Eric Milton ring a bell? There's just as many overpaid mediocrity in the MLB.
  23. This is unwarrented critisicm. He has owned the team for 5 years and you are saying that in order for him to be considered a good owner he must have won a championship in that time? That's absurd. If you read my previous post, it's not a World Championship, but at least make it to the Western Conference Finals - they may have done that once. But my point is what could he do that the Trib hasn't done in the past five years? And I'm an NBA fan, and it's my opinion that the Cubs are closer to a World Championship right now than the Mavericks. I would disagree. The Cubs are going to have to get extremely lucky to even make the playoffs while the Mavericks consistantly get to the second round or further. I'm a basketball fan as well, and I think that a lot of this criticism of Cuban is based on his Reality show, his jumping on the floor, etc. You really can''t dispute his success as an owner. That being said, I really don't think he would be the missing link, I just think that he doesn't diserve to be trashed like he is being here. Over half the NBA makes the playoffs. 8 teams make the MLB playoffs. Not a fair comparison. And the Mavs don't get further than the 2nd round. They have never made the West finals. They don't even compare to the Spurs and Suns, and the same was true for the Lakers and TWolves in recent history. They are the Minnesota Twins or Oakland As of the NBA. Yeah, they make the playoffs, but they are a huge step behind the real contenders. But isn't that more due to the financial constraints put on both clubs?
  24. This is unwarrented critisicm. He has owned the team for 5 years and you are saying that in order for him to be considered a good owner he must have won a championship in that time? That's absurd. Not true because it does happen. See Wayne Huizenga.
